Then

Mineral surveying was soul sucking. The remote variety, specifically. At least when done in person, Shogar had the pleasure of exploring alien worlds with his own two feet (and dealing with the occasional danger that entailed). However, these days it was all about probes. Maximizing the company search results, while minimizing his potential raises. Such was the life of a modern sensor operator.

Every day at promptly 0800 local time, the Duros turned in to pour over readouts from dozens of different probes and determine if there was anything worth giving another look. However, that usually just meant yet another series of probes sent to the surface. Berl had a probe for everything.

Most days there was nothing, and so the probes were deployed to the next system or sector. Today however, there was indeed something waiting for Shogar at the top of the stack. He raised an eyebrow as the report - the motherlode of crystal deposits, Kyber, the kind that made planets go boom in the right (wrong) hands. That's not what had really grabbed his attention. In a rare instance, photos had been provided. Not the rendered variety from muxed sensor data, but the real deal from EO. In each one there were clusters of monuments and other structures that clearly denoted civilization. Except no life forms had been detected in the vicinity. No life forms had been detected anywhere on the planet.

A real grave world.

The Berl Mining Group has recently detected a previously unexplored alien world they have currently designated Senth 052, located deep within Wild Space. Jurisdiction over survey efforts has been transferred from the Survey Division to the Special Research Branch for further examination. Following additional scans that have confirmed negative for any lifeforms, a live team has been dispatched, made up of BMG employees and contractors with various backgrounds. Estimated travel time between Gydine and Senth 052 is 18 standard days.

((Thread will start with survey teams just landing in wastes outside a settlement they plan to check out first.))

It had been almost six months since Katarine had been freed from the enchanted sleep. During those six months she had seen a lot of the ways the galaxy changed in the 800+ years since her stasis. So much was new to the woman but the one thing that really threw her for a loop was the technology. The galaxy had a gadget for everything now a days, even mission contracting. A few people pushed some buttons on their device and then ended up on a mission to some random world. It made her head spin, but she couldn’t deny there was good money in contracting.

The former Jedi still had no sense of where her place in the galaxy was, but while she figured it out she needed funds to survive, and that meant jobs like this.

Aftet an eighteen day voyage the team had finally reached its destination and the excitement was thick. Kat could feel how happy the crew was to be off the ship and ready to explore. She just wondered what it was she had gotten herself into.

Barid Pod, BMG Employee, Leader of Team "Eclipse

Team Dawn had already landed down in the opposite hemisphere, with Eclipse soon to follow. On the way down through the surface, they weren't fortunate to descend among good weather, either. A blizzard raged over their planned landing site near city ruins, with a wind chills dropping well under -50 degrees.

Barid, the leader of this particular expedition, crammed his huge Herglic frame through the door of the passenger area to relay the unfortunate development in person.

"Bad news, folks. We now find ourselves in the middle of polar vortex. I was hoping we could take some time for a little sight seeing before the official work began, but that's now a no go. For now, we'll stay aboard the ship and try to wait out the system for some better weather before proceeding. We certainly have the gear to go outside, but as my dear sweet momma told me, avoid swimming upstream if you can help it."

A collective groan of disappoint broke out among the rest of the team gathered, but no one initially tried to change Barid's mind. Who was going to really say no to a 1 ton Herglic?

Well that was unfortunate. They were all still crammed in the ship as they listened to the wind howl outside. Personally she could do without the frigid cold, but jobs this lucrative tended to be worth a few frost bitten fingers.

The crew was busy checking weapons or talking and inevitably the wise guy of the group spoke up.

“Isn’t this place supposed to be haunted?” He was a zeltronian, and looked as though he had a spice dealer on speed dial.

“Man I ain’t afraid of no ghost.” The response came from a female in the back who looked like the toughest commando Kat had ever seen.

The former Jedi smirked and looked back at her data pad. 800+ years and the missions still started the same way.
