One year - how's it gone?

Wow.

One year ago today, I created Samka Derith and it's been quite a journey, most of it unexpected. She's come a long way from the impotent teenager I'd originally envisioned and developed into a genuinely powerful, respected and sinister figure. I've also developed significantly as a writer in that time. I found Chaos by chance on Google having not touched creative writing since dropping it at school when I was 16, barring a fanfiction I wrote for Disney's The Lion King several years ago which remains buried away on fanfiction.net (I still get emails from people favouriting it).

So given my inexperience, I was uncertain at first and a few incidents made me consider leaving the site but I stuck with it and I'm very glad I did, I've met some incredible people in that time but I still consider myself relatively new to writing and I'd like to hear what other people have to say on my strengths and weaknesses!

I still really enjoy writing the character and there's plenty more in store for the future but what do other people who've interacted with or seen her around think?

I'd love to hear thoughts!

Thanks everyone and here's to another year!

[member="Samka Derith"] Not what you expect from a Master of Ren, but all the more beneficial seeing her story!

It's been nice seeing her acknowledge her age so much and how it can affect how she comes across, in her own eyes and also in the eyes of others. This makes her more real and easy to invest in; waiting to see how she tackles the next huge choice before her and what she will feel after.

I know there is lots more ahead, and I think the time is coming for her to step up even more and take a risk, or make a big choice, or simply ascend in status / power, or even falter a little? Your choice, but there's lots to give still and I for one look forward to seeing her path.

And always nice to see a fellow Brit on the board.

You write Samka really well and it's clear how much effort you put into writing her. She's a really interesting and dynamic character and what I've seen of her story has been a lot of fun to read. Honestly, just keep doing what you're doing and she'll keep on getting better; write different situations, write new things with new people, see how she fares against challenges and what have you. You're doing great, keep doing great.
