12 months ago, I randomly contacted [member="Zark"] about creating a Galactic Alliance character. I'd been a member of the faction before, but was looking for a niche to fill. Seeing a lack of political characters, I decided to go that route.
Except where would this diplomatic character be from? What would his background be?
On a total whim, I contacted [member="Matsu Ike"] and asked about whether or not there was any room in the Ike family tree. I had no idea at the time just what I was getting into (Syn has this amazingly detailed account of 3 different branches of the family tree, which I think I still only got the CliffNotes version of). The character that we came up with together would be [member="Junko Ike"]'s cousin, making him part of the Atrisian royal family.
Which required that I have at least some idea what the hell Atrisia even was (I didn't at that time), which is how I came to start the project that eventually became the Codex project that ultimately succeeded in bridging together the history of Atrisia from all the various writers who had been part of stories from the Atrisian Empire, which was before I joined the board.
So, that's how Shoma came to be. A lot of spur-of-the-moment whims that wound up in PMs to people who very well could have told me to kark off, but didn't, and in the year since this character has done more development than any of my others. Starting off at age 9, then age 12, then 15, and now 18 years, he'd progressed along the narrative that began with learning about the Galactic Alliance, fighting the Empire alongside the Confederacy at Dagobah, and now serving as a government administrator for the First Order.
I'm curious how that's come across to those who might have read one or more of Shoma's stories?
What's good? What's not to like? What do I need to do a better job of articulating?
