Open for Business
Coruscant, Underworld

There were many reasons one might seek a change in career. Better pay, a safer work environment, or even finding a new passion. Toby certainly fell into one of these camps. Exploration had grown to be much of the same. He found that nothing could live up to the experience he had in the Worlds Within. But, where exploration failed to get his blood pumping, 'Mr. Nine' had found himself drawn into a new form of excitement: The Criminal Underworld. He had been facing off against plenty of criminal types lately. Something about that life or death scenario made him feel more alive then ever. But what to do? Becoming a vigilante was, frankly, a bit cliché, and it didn't pay the bills. Joining the SIA was out of the question. There was no way Toby was going through another academy. Then, it hit him. Private investigation was the career for him. The thrill of hunting down a criminal with deductive reasoning and then the inevitable showdown made for a combo he simply couldn't replicate. It was perfect.

Toby began making preparations straight away, even taking the time to produce his own business cards. When the time came to promote his business, the Umbaran tracked down a criminal with a high bounty, tied him to a lamp post and taped business cards all over him. There was no way it wouldn't be noticed. From there, Toby converted his ship, the Overhall, into an office space, desk and all. If he was going to be operating a legitimate business, his workplace had to at least look the part. With all that done, his doors were finally open. All he needed now was his first client...

The Ninth Eye Investigation Firm was officially open for business.

A Jedi walked. "Names TJ, but most call me Star Warrior. I need help tracking down a lightsaber that's like mine." He pulls it out and has it change colors. "It can't fall into the wrong hands. You'll be paid handsomely for your service, more than your actual service fee I assure you."

Before long, a boy had wound up behind his desk. Late teens from the looks of it, with blonde hair notably bright blue eyes. He was Jedi, seemingly, and quickly procured his lightsaber to demonstrate it's bizarre ability to change colors. Apparently, he was looking for one with similar traits.

"It can't fall into the wrong hands. You'll be paid handsomely for your service, more than your actual service fee I assure you."

"An item of great importance," Toby remarked with a grin, leaning in to assess the blade. "Well then, lad, you're in the right place. Mr. Nine is what they call me; Investigator extraordinaire. I've got myself a keen eye, and am a fine shot if I do say so myself. Lucky for you, my friend, I also know Coruscant like it's me own mum."

Toby leaned back in his chair, grabbing a datapad from his desk.

"Been keepin' up with the latest happenin's?" the Umbaran asked the teen. "Jedi items are hot in the underworld at the moment. The recent invasion of Ilum by those Empire blokes has given the market for goods of the like a bit of a surge. Kyber, lightsabers, plundered artifacts... the whole ringer. Wild as it is, some of these ruffians are mental enough to set up shop in the Jedi's back yard. Seen a few of 'em come down here and rough up a band of Rodian smugglers called the Cloud Dwellers, but not much more than that. I'd reckon that the big gangs are sittin' comfy on all kinds of loot from the war. It isn't far fetched to guess that your RGB laser sword is stashed in with the rest o' the dragon's horde."

The investigator leaned forward again. Toby didn't fear anything, but asking someone to head out into the underbelly was asking them to jump feet first into fire. This TJ kid needed to be dead certain that this lightsaber of his was worth the risk.

"So, how about it, Shooting Star," Toby began, a mischievous smile spreading across his face. "You scrappier than ya look?"

"It's Star Warrior. And if you mean I'll be able to tell if you betray me, the answer is yes. You see, I'm uncharacteristically force sensitive meaning I feel the attack before it happens, allowing me to dodge."

"Alright, ease up a little, lad," Toby frowned. "I wasn't at all saying I'd betray ya. Seems a bit backwards to turn on my own client. I was simply asking if you'd be ready to knock a few noggins when we go lookin' for this weapon of yours..."

Toby leaned back in his chair, crossing his arms. If the kid was already being adversary, this didn't bode well for business. It was hard to work for someone who was convinced you'd turn on them at some point. Perhaps it wasn't wise to take the gig.

"It's hard to work with someone who's paranoid," he remarked. "I don't have to worry about you stabbing me, do I?"

"Sorry, just I got a few bounties on my head as is, not my fault with one of them. But other than that, I won't back stab you." He could sense a strong presence of the Froce coming from Toby.
