STRENGTHS
  • Automated - Large sections of the station were designed to operate with little to no input from an organic source, either through direct automation of a system or the employment of droids constructed to carry out basic manual labor. This allows a smaller crew to operate, and control the receiving and shipment of supplies from the station than a structure of its size would otherwise, normally, demand.
  • Hangar Capacity -The Opis-class Station was designed to horde vast sums of raw materials, finished goods, and all manner of supplies in between in large warehouses located throughout the station. In order to achieve this and be able to receive and ship out these supplies in large quantities, the station was also designed to maintain and house large freighters and commercial bulk freighters up to one thousand meters in length; the station was also designed to accommodate fuel tankers up to two thousand meters in length.
WEAKNESSES
  • Civilian Station - The Opis-class Station is classified as a civilian station and as such it lacks any form of offensive armaments or the capability to supply, house, and launch military vessels of any kind including Starfighter Squadrons.
  • Pirate's Delight - Due to the nature of the station and its capability to house hundreds of thousands of tons worth of supplies, they are known to be prime targets for raiders and pirates. This often requires that those entities operating Opis-class Stations deploy additional security measures or defensive fleets to further protect their investment; a requirement that can potentially be detrimental to smaller political or commercial entities.
  • Section Connectors - Many of the primary warehouses that are located throughout the station are connected by smaller fuselages similar in design to those seen on the Nebulon-B Frigate. These sections are often less well-defended than the neighboring warehouse, or overlooked altogether; damage to these sections has the potential to cause catastrophic damage to the station, resulting in warehouses being shorn off of the main body of the station itself.
DESCRIPTION
During a prolonged Conflict the stockpiling of supplies, specifically war materials, is often commonplace as Governments request that their populace ration certain items so that a larger quantity is available to their forces. Following this principle, and focusing on the stockpiling of supplies and materials, the Opis-class Orbital Supply Station was designed to provide the means to collect and store vast quantities of materials in a centralized local to be later disseminated to those regions and commercial industries that require the supplies. Designed so that a smaller crew was capable of operating and handling the large shipments that arrive regularly, the Opis-class Stations are known to be highly automated with many primary and secondary systems being maintained by programs and droid brains; likewise, the bulk of the labor pool present on any given station is often comprised of droids designed to carry out basic manual labor, with Binary Load Lifters, Loader Droids, PK-series Worker Droids, and older model LB-series Droids dominating this workforce.

The primary weakness of the Opis-class Station comes from its classification as a Civilian Station, which is due to its lack of offensive weapon systems, and its lack of the means to support and mobilize Starfighter Squadrons. Additionally, the knowledge that the station is filled with materials worth their price in any currency one desires, also places a large target of these behemoths of supply, often attracting raiders and pirates to their location. This drawing of attention often requires that additional resources be allocated to provide the defenses required to properly protect these stations; a requirement that can often place a further strain on supply lines for smaller political organizations or commercial entities.

As the conflict continues to grow and the need to maintain supplies at the ready coupled with securing shipping routes to ferry those supplies rapidly, the Opis-class Station provides the bulk leverage of keeping a region well supplied. A singular station of its size located near multiple key Star Systems has the potential of keeping those Systems well supplied for years provided that its location is not made public to prevent it from being raided.
