The Jedi Master Kelos Windspeaker constructed this saber in or before 3950BBY. He carried it in many battles thereafter, including the war against Exar Kun. By unknown means, Kelos survived to the modern era, and at least partially fell to the Dark Side. He appeared on the Chiss planet Bogo Rai during the Catharian Hegemony invasion, where his former Padawan Xzaien killed him. Jend-Ro Quill arrived too late to save his fellow Jedi, but left with Kelos' lightsaber. Later, meditating on the saber, Quill experienced an intrusive vision about Kelos' life.
"However, the lightsaber of the Fallen-Jedi as it presented itself to Master Quill was of an extremely ancient pattern of lightsaber used by Jedi Battle-Masters during the Great Sith Wars with the newly formed Empire headed by long-dead Dark Jedi Exar Kun. It was made of a once extremely exquisite silver plated design which once would have looked immensely pretty but now it had fallen into disrepair. The crystal was visible, Green in coloration. And echoed with the light-side of the force. Yet, it had this taint to it."
Quill was able to track down further details about Kelos, including his name, in the archive on Peace Station. He found that Kelos' saber had become a powerful catalyst for other visions. Once he purged a dark taint from the exposed crystal and performed quite a bit of needed maintenance, he gave the saber to the Jedi as a whole.
