  • Unit Size: Small
    • Individual units of 8 Sisters
  • Unit Availability: Common
    • Intended to make up a large proportion of Ashlan Ground forces, the Strand casts are ordered in bulk and there are generally replacements in development.
  • Unit Experience: Veteran

  • Tactical information:
    • Trained on techniques to improve resistance to mind affecting force powers.
    • Typically deployed in larger formations, each 8 sister unit can work independently or as part of a whole.
    • Often deployed via armoured transport or drop ship.
    • Raptured Sisters used for mobile assault
    • Imbued Sisters for fire support
    • Annointed Sisters for close assault and entering high risk occupied spaces such as fortifications.
    • Wall of Steel tactic - slow moving line abreast section of sisters approaches enemy, or holds line against enemy useful against poorly equipped foes where the Sisters can rely on their armour alone.
    • Stepping line tactic - unit breaks into two teams of four, one provides covering fire whilst the other advances or retreats and then swap.
    • Killing ground tactic - 2 Sisters in the center of a V of the other 6 in cover. 'V' Sisters hold fire whilst center two engage. As enemy charge centre two fall back and V open fire on both flanks - primarily only useful against low numbers of very close ranged foes.
    • (Raptured Sisters) Ashlan Hellfire - by directing their guns and grenades at the ground before they drop they can saturate the area for a shock and awe landing.

  • Devoted to Ashla - Part of the flash training procedure is a strong devotion to the Ashlan cause. This makes them almost impossible to bribe or convince to disobey the Ashlan commanders, unless they feel that the commander is directly contradicting Ashlan Faith. It also gives them the willpower to resist a lot of mind affecting force powers.
  • Heavily armed and armoured - Strong armour and powerful weapons make the Sisters of Ashla a potent foe to face, more than a match for their contemporaries on a battlefield
  • (Raptured sisters) Flight - capable of repulsor flight the Raptured Sisters are highly mobile and can strike from unexpected angles
  • (Imbued Sisters) Concentration of firepower - these units bring serious firepower and concentrate it, along with the training how to effectively utilise it.
  • (Anointed Sisters): Ferociously durable - between their heavy armour and advanced personal shields, these units are extremely hard to take out.
ym2ql33.png

  • Tactically inflexible - The combat doctrine of the Sister's of Ashla means that each unit is very effective in their primary method of warfare, but they have limited tactical flexibility. They find it harder to improvise new tactics and their specialisation makes it harder for them to change roles to react to unexpected actions by the enemy.
  • Sometimes too devoted- This has been a bit of a difficulty for some less pious, yet fully legitimate commanders. If they believe that their orders directly contradict the teaching of Ashla, then they can be hesitant to carry them out and have a number of commanders investigated for dereliction of faith.
    • A sister will pray before battle and regularly in the mornings and evenings. Whilst they wont ignore an engaged enemy to blindly stop and pray. There will be moments were commanders may need them to do something less immediate such as marching, battle preparation or logistics. As far as a Sister is concerned, these activities are acceptable to be delayed.
    • The most common cause of dereliction of faith charges, is Commanders being too ready to offer their hand to the Bogan. The Sith are unforgivable and to enter into negotiations with them could be a slope to the darkside. For the most part the Sister's will not immediately disobey orders to commit warcrimes, but they are much more likely to kill than capture and will protest against open negotiation.
    • The Sisters believe that any other faith is less than Ashla, the worship of the Bogan is utter blasphemy, but even greyer deviations from the guiding light of Ashla can be treated with disrespect, this can make working with locals difficult as there may be cultural clashes.
  • (Raptured Sisters) Outnumbered - The limited number and more mobile nature of the Raptured Sisters often leaves them lacking support when they need it so can be overwhelmed by superior numbers.
  • (Imbued Sisters) Specialised firepower - doctrine dictates that each unit bring matching guns to maximise efficiency against the right target, at a cost of lower effectiveness should the wrong target present itself.
  • (Anointed Sisters) Reduced mobility - the shield emitters and additional power generation required for the personal shields make them heavy and slow moving units.

The Order of The Sisters of Ashla were founded to be the new backbone of then Ashlan armed forces under the leadership of Isla Draellix. They are grown as engineered variance clones, encouraging genetic variance to allow them to be a healthy population that can easily integrate into Ashlan Society once their military requirement is over.

They are a well trained and heavily armed fighting force with different unit types capable of performing different mission roles, from the fast moving Raptured Sisters to the heavily defended Anointed Sisters.

All of them are programmed to be devoutly faithful to the Ashla and will fight to the death for their cause if ordered to do so. They are trained to resist the dark side in order to better combat the Bogan. They routinely pray before battle in order to cleanse themselves and bring balance to their own force presences. This programming is hard wired in to the Sisters and is difficult for them to act against in the same way as a child that had grown their whole life only knowing one truth. However, over time and faced with significant evidence that contradicted their teachings, it would be possible for their faith to begin to weaken. Any signs of this are watched for amongst the ranks, and whilst the Ashlans under Draellix would never punish a Sister too harshly for wavering faith, if it becomes to pronounced or a risk of spreading, they will likely be moved to less essential duties.

As they march into battle, they will often sing hymns and issue private prayer to Ashla to protect them, this varies from unit to unit and is not dictated military practice. The imbued sisters in particular will over say prayers over their weapons asking for Ashla's hand in aiming. Outwardly they looks and operate like any other heavily armoured foe, but instead of the usual curse words, which they tend not to use unless they have picked them up working with other units, they may utter phrases such as "Death to the Bogan", "Ashla protects me" "For Ashla!". When engaged in close combat, they fight in a deliberate fashion that typically relies on strength over finesse.

Doctrine dictates that negotiation is always an option, and as such, specific stances are trained, such as ready, but submissive holding of weapons, aiming of mortars away from enemy lines and such.

Their first active engagement came at Panatha, laying seige to the capital in order to try and capture the Zambrano family of Sith leaders. In this role they performed admirably and were able to show intelligence and patience as virtues alongside power.

Under Review Isla Draellix-Kobitana Isla Draellix-Kobitana

A very fitting submission for the Ashlan Crusade! I like that they are effectively modular infantry, with different unit types built onto a common base. You did a good job of taking a Warhammer 40k concept and using Chaos tech, as well as some key differences, to make sure it's not just a copy from another universe. I particularly like that they are strand cast clones, rather than recruits of some Schola Progenium equivalent, though that raises some interesting questions about their (pre-programmed?) faith in Ashla. Overall this is a solid submission. I have just a few notes and requests before I put my stamp on it.

  • The most major issue I have is in the Weaknesses section. The Tactically Inflexible weakness states that the Sisters cannot match the "flowing battle tactics of lighter infantry", which makes sense given their heavy armor and rigid thinking... but this conflicts with a couple of the modular weaknesses. The Outnumbered weakness references the "mobile nature of the Raptured Sisters", which would seem to be a trait opposite to Tactically Inflexible. And the Reduced Mobility weakness that makes Termination Sisters "heavy and slow moving" seems very similar to Tactically Inflexible.
    • One way to fix this would be to lean into the tactics part more, without mentioning their heavy armor. Maybe the Sisters, as faithful clones, are good order-followers but poor improvisers. They rely heavily on orders from HQ, and stick stubbornly to what they were told to do even when deviating from those orders would be beneficial to the course of the battle. I think you were hinting at this, but making it explicit in the description would fix the contradictions in the weaknesses.
    • You could also sub the specialized sisters separately and differentiate them more, if you'd prefer.

  • One other thing I'd like to see in the Weaknesses section is a more detailed description of how the Sometimes too devoted weakness might play out. What kind of orders might the Sisters refuse? What kind of "impieties" might cause them to be unwilling to follow a certain commander? This should be a real weakness, not just "won't do Dark Side things".
    • Are they judgmental about alcohol and tabac, or other common substances? Do they always have to pray before battle, even if they're under fire? Do they flatly refuse orders from atheists? Would they refuse the order to capture, rather than kill, a Sith? Which teachings of Ashla affect them on the battlefield?

  • Since part of the Codex is making sure that we're not carbon-copying things from any other fandom, I'd like you to look at changing the names of the Devastation and Termination Sisters. Devastator Marines and Terminators are from the Warhammer 40k source material, and in a submission that's already quite close to the Sisters of Battle, I'd like to see the terminology changed up to be a bit further from that, to make sure we stay grounded in Star Wars. I like "Raptured" though!
    • If we want to keep the same naming pattern as "Raptured", we could so something like "Anointed" for the heavily-armored / shielded ones and "Imbued" for the heavy weapons gals. Just an idea, though!

  • I'd love to see a little more in the Description section. An expanded description of what the Sisters look like on the battlefield would be great, to give other writers something to work with when they write about coming up against these gals. Some more details would make them really pop, too. Do they march into battle singing hymns, or are they eerily silent, even when in pain? I'd also like to see more about their training. They are variance clones, but what happens to them between being produced and stepping onto the battlefield? You mention a "flash training" procedure, but what is that like, and what does it include?
    • Weapon skills and Ashlan faith at a minimum, clearly. Can a Sister start to doubt the faith that has been artificially implanted into her newborn mind? What happens if she does? Not required to answer this, just think it's interesting.

  • Lastly, a minor formatting thing. You have two separate sections with the Combat Information header, one right before Equipment and one right after. You don't have to change that, just pointing out that you have the same title twice.

Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions or concerns!

Thank you The Mongrel The Mongrel for taking the time to look at this, and I am glad it falls on the right side of being Star Wars unit with Sisters themes.

What you suggested was actually my intention that their training and doctrine was inflexible but i worded it in such a way that it highlighted the armor. I have hopefully corrected that adequately.

I am glad you asked for more detail here, glad to add some in there, I liked you examples (as is evident from the next quote too) and i also added issues that may arise working with local non-beleivers

Absolutely makes sense, those unit titles were orignally work in progress titles that stuck around as i couldn't think of anything better, so i have accepted you offered suggestions. I hope I have found every mention of the offending unit names, my eyes are tired so if I missed one let me know.

I have added some description regards how they may appear across the battlefield and how they act prior to battle. I have also made mention of the fact that their training is programmed but not unbreakable given enough time and effort and that the Ashlans do look out for it. I couldnt find my reference to flash training, again, these tired eyes. But i just thought it was a standard part of cloning now so hadn't really elaborated.

I fixed that, i thing the equipment section in the template isn't a header but i used one that Ingrid made which added a new once half way through. I have moved the tactical part of combat information up into the unit size part so there should only be one header now.

Nice job with the edits! They are very thorough and fully addressed my suggestions. The only thing I might still recommend is moving the additional description you added to the Historical Information section up to the Description section under General Information... but I actually think it works fine where it is too, so your call.

Approved pending secondary, since I'm still a baby codex judge at the moment. Srina Talon Srina Talon John Locke John Locke
