Faction Orientation Day [Eclipse Rebels]

In the wake of increased crackdowns by Imperial Blackwatch forces upon dissidents, Rebel command has recently received intelligence about the planned route of an Imperial warship transporting political prisoners to the Camp 9 facility on Kalidan, where they will undoubtedly be tortured and brutally killed. Due to the information gathered about the Imperial transport, an older Adjudicator-class Star Destroyer going by the name of ENS Punisher, which indicates that the vessel will be briefly unescorted when it drops out of hyperspace in the Ast Kikorie vessel in order to adjust its trajectory towards its destination, our tacticians feel confident that a rescue mission can be successfully carried out before Imperial reinforcements could arrive.

Thus, an operation has been set up in order to free the prisoners, combining multiple units in order to successfully accomplish the objective before the time runs out. First, a squadron of T95 'Thunderhawk' X-Wings, lying in wait within the atmosphere of the sparsely populated Ast Kikorie, will perform a strafing run on the Star Destroyer in order to draw away its complement of starfighters, likely two squadrons of I-3A lance fighters, allowing the Experto Crede, one of our Endurance-class Fleet Carriers, to jump in from hyperspace and engage the Punisher, utilizing its electronic warfare systems to jam the Star Destroyer's communications and prevent it from calling reinforcements, while squadrons of M-Wing bombers deployed from our carrier will disable the Punisher's engines and weapons while also deploying a gravfield mine in order to prevent it from jumping to hyperspace.

Finally, under an escort of four squadrons of Razors, all five squadrons of transports aboard the Experto Crede, will deploy and board the crippled Star Destroyer, taking control of its hangar bay and deploying boarding parties. Engineers and slicers embedded within these boarding parties will then attempt to slice into the Star Destroyer's systems from within, slowing down the Imperial security personnel's attempts to seal its decks, while the rest of the boarding parties make their way to the ship's brig and extract the prisoners within.

Rebel boarding parties should expect to encounter a fairly large number of security troops, with multiple squads of Imperial Ultranauts likely present amongst them, possibly assisted by Imperial Combat Engineers. Due to time constraints, prolonged engagements with these forces should be avoided if possible and in order to draw Imperial forces away from the rescue parties, several rebel squads will mount a distraction by making their way towards the Star Destroyer's reactor, only to double back and withdraw to the hangar once the prisoners are released, fighting a rearguard action while the prisoners and the other teams board their transports and withdraw to the Experto Crede.

Finally, once all rebel units are safely back aboard the carrier, all rebel units shall immediately disperse and jump to hyperspace, making several jumps in order to avoid potential pursuers. We have our mission. Now let's get those prisoners out of the Empire's claws.

This was the biggest operation that Lori had been in since the retake of Commenor from the Sith Empire. Sure jumping to Mandalore to rescue other Mandos from the Sith was a largescale operation as well, yet there were thousands involved in that one. Here it was a different story. Here they were still outnumbered, but not by as much. And this time their plan was figured out at almost every minute. It helped to have intel from the inside of the Eternal Empire from those secretly wanting to take it and Kainan Wolfe Kainan Wolfe down.

Of course Lori was right on board with this one. She had a personal vendetta against the evil dictator, even without having met him. He tortured her Mom and took out her own little Empire. So now he had to pay.

Riding inside one of the transports, Lori was dressed in her Rebel armour and boots of escaping. She had blasters attached to her thighs, stun grenades and flashbombs hung on her belt, with a vibroblade tucked in her right boot. Lori was more armed than she had ever been. But there were prisoners to break out. Camp 9 was notorious for brainwashing survivours of their tortures, though the numbers of those ever getting out were slim. If the Rebels failed here in rescuing their comrades, trying to break them out of Camp 9 would be near impossible. So they couldn't fail.

Lori looked over to Curtis Learchin Curtis Learchin with a trace of a smile. "Ready?" He was more than just a friend to her. They had a bond that grew every day, despite them having much of a moment to themselves that wasn't spent in training. She loved him and she was ever so happy that he had joined her on this venture. It saved her from having Arla come, despite the bodyguards reluctance at staying behind. She needed to remain on board the Jaster's Sparrow in case things went badly. "I've memorized our route. While some make a distraction, we can bypass some of the corridors through the mechanic access conduits. My Dad's destroyer was built with similar blueprints. We used to run some drills for fun, sort of like a game of hide and seek. Let's just hope that no one gets lost."

Dag had been staring at the same wall within his cell for the last... several hours? Days? It was hard to keep track of time when you were confined to an ever persistent cell, chained and locked to a slab of metal in the middle of it. Among his nightmares, this would rank amongst the worst. The Eternal Empire was a entity that did not forgive and never forgot, so he knew that the moment he'd turned his back on it, on his duty, on his service, that he'd never be able to live carefree again, lest he wind up imprisoned within the hell of hells, Camp Nine.

He'd sworn to himself that he'd sooner pull the trigger on himself than let the Imperial take him, but that was before well.... before he found others to care about. Fen and Harlow, hell even Baric's ass, he wouldn't be able to live with himself if he let them get caught because of his decisions. He should've been able to smell the setup from the start, but he'd grown complacent with how well things were going; he had a crew, people who'd follow him into the breach, and he had a ship, where they had their illusions of freedom and grandeur, and that was enough for him. But when things turned sour and it came to down to the wire, he'd sacrificed himself to let the others escape, knowing it was as good a sentence of death as a blaster was, maybe even worse.

He let his head drop down. His throat was hoarse, dry, and his stomach had a perpetual feeling of hunger. They did enough to keep them alive, and nothing more. He kept his mind occupied with ideas; not of plans of escape, no, that was impossible when it came to the EE. They were plans of suicide. He'd force them to kill him, whether it be by attacking one of the guards when they came to release him, or by spitting on the boots of the Emperor himself. They wouldn't keep his life anymore than he desired.

The ENS Punisher reverted from hyperspace above Ast Kikorie right on schedule, with typical Imperial punctuality and precision. Something which, this time, would work against them.

Down in the massive warship's belly, guards on routine patrol passed by each cell, stopping to check on the prisoners and insure none of them were doing anything suspicious. They were forbidden from talking to the prisoners, or indeed, even talking in the presence of the prisoners, unless it was to report something. It was standard procedure, a psychological tactic utilized by the Imperials in order to demoralize their captives by dehumanizing them, treating them not as people, but as numbers, just cargo to be transported. Unlike other dictatorships across the galaxy, the Eternal Empire did not give its enemies the courtesy of making it personal.

A group of five guards (it was always five) passed by the cell of VanceCaydence VanceCaydence , Rumi Dag Rumi Dag and Rhea Kintre Rhea Kintre , their expressions hidden beneath the cold, metallic faceplates of their helmets. Navy troopers in grey and black uniforms, not as heavily armored as Ultranauts, but armed with repeating blaster carbines more than capable of cutting down any prisoners who were somehow foolish enough to try to escape. The cells were small, furnished only with metal slabs bolted onto one of the walls, which served as beds and small refresher stations, sealed off by forcefields from the corridor outside. They were always lit, making it difficult for the prisoners to count the passage of time and easy for the guards to keep watch over them. Usually, the patrol would pass by the cells, stopping briefly to check on the prisoners and then moving on, but this time... this time something was different.

Some sort of comms chatter had put the guards on alert, their carbines held ready in case they were needed, as if waiting for some kind of attack. Clearly, something was happening on the ship, something to disturb the monotonous, sterile order which typically permeated every aspect of Imperial society, especially aboard its warships.

--------
"Raider actual, this is mission control. Bogie in position," the voice on the comms announced. "You are go for launch, I repeat, go for launch. Good luck and godspeed out there, Raiders and may the Force be with you."

Grinning, the leader of the X-Wing squadron hidden away in the clouds of Ast Kikorie, yanked hard on the flight stick as he broke comms silence to signal the rest of his starfighters. "Ok, Raiders, this is it. Let's go clear a path for our boys and girls. Lock S-foils in attack positions and follow me," he said grinning as the comms came alive with whoops and cheers. Morale was high amongst the pilots, for most of them this was their first action against the Empire after joining the rebels in the wake of the Empire's atrocities on Bakura.

Keeping a tight formation, the X-Wings rose from the clouds at a sharp angle, sprinting towards the triangular, grey hull of the Star Destroyer in orbit above them. As predicted, the warship responded by immediately deploying its squadrons of lance fighters, small triangular strike craft built for maneuverability. "Stay sharp, everyone. Those lance fighters are no TIEs. They've got torpedo launchers and shields, so don't let them get a lock on you, get on their tails and watch out for their wingmates, they're going to try and come at you from the flank. We do a quick strafing run, then bail out, drawing them away from the Star Destroyer."

The two groups of starfighters raced towards eachother, opening up with laser cannons as they entered combat range. One of the Imperial warbirds exploded as a proton torpedo slammed into it, then the X-Wings broke off, as if to run away, the lance fighters in pursuit, desperately trying to get a lock on them with their own torpedoes, while firing their laser cannons. At the range they were at, most of the laser bolts missed, or glanced ineffectually off the X-Wings' shields.

"Experto Crede, this is Raider Actual, objective accomplished. You're good to go."

On cue, the rebel carrier jumped into position behind the Star Destroyer, firing its ion cannons as soon as it reverted from hyperspace, while squadrons of starfighters and bombers disgorged themselves from its hull like a swarm of angry bees, the Imperial warship's hull being lit up by explosions as the rebel bombers took out weapon emplacements, its engines sizzling out due to repeated impacts from the carrier's batteries and the M-Wings' bombing runs, the ion warheads swiftly disabling their complicated electronics.

To the credit of its crew, the Star Destroyer responded swiftly, bringing its rear-most batteries to bear on the carrier, engaging in a ranged artillery battle with it, but with its engines disabled, the Imperial warship was unable to turn and bring its entire arsenal to bear upon the rebel vessel.

"Boarding parties, you are go for launch. I repeat, go for launch," the carrier's captain announced on the ship's PA system. This was it, the time to put all their training to work and rescue those prisoners from the Empire's clutches.

VanceCaydence

Engineer, Caydence Naval Yards
Vance sat on the cold, steel floor of his cell, opposite from the metal rack that offered a piece of spartan bedding - the only form of simplified "comfort" that the cell had to offer. In the months since his capture, the Imperials had done their utmost to humble him. Days upon days of ritual beatings, starvation, and mistreatment were all that were afforded to him. They had ripped out his prosthetic arm, leaving just the shoulder joint and some exposed wiring until Vance had managed to overcome the sheer amount of pain from haptic feedback and found a way to use bits of wetted paper mixed with paint shavings to make a sort of paste that he could deaden the exposed wiring with. After a few weeks and more grueling questioning, Vance was allowed to finally go to the infirmary when his shoulder joint had become so infected that it was beginning to fester, making him feverish and - at one point - too weak to move. They had then decided to allow the med droid to provide basic treatments, and it had carried out its duty by removing the bits of damaged hardware, allowing Vance's prosthetic port to be exposed in a medically-safe manner (the joint showing, but ready to have a new arm attached without much discourse). The droid then treated the area where Vance's real collarbone and shoulder met with the prosthesis, disinfecting the areas that had become diseased. Once it was finished, Vance was bandaged up, and then tossed back in his cell to continue his sentence.

Vance continued to give his captors hell any which way he could. As an engineer, he knew several ways to weaken the structural integrity of his cell and the objects within. He would find ways to get ahold of small quantities of chemicals, making little vials of weak acids and such that he could melt rivets and circuitry with. He knew the exact application of physics that would allow him to create cracks in his duracrete cell walls where his drainage vents were. And he would use those means, often, to continually be a thorn in the side of his jailers.

But that was then, and now, two months later - well, Vance's bandages had only been changed twice in that time. And that was only because he was too weak to put up any kind of resistance or make any snide remarks. Vance would only allow himself to just barely come back to the land of the living before he would start in again on how "pathetic" the Empire was, ranting and kicking his cell walls until his captors would come in and proceed to "correct" his attitude. Every blow to his person was just another strike to the anvil that was his heart, and the Empire was ignorantly forging an unbreakable weapon of hatred and vengeance with every hapless attempt to bring him low. And so, there he sat, across from the bed on the cold, hard floor. Unwilling to allow himself any form of comfort, of weakness. With every breath, he continued to harbor and fortify his hatred of the Empire. With every moment, he would pray only that he would be ready to help bring about their downfall.

Then, by sheer happenstance, Vance felt the ship shudder. The lights flickered momentarily, and Vance swore he heard the ship's reactors powering down and having to switch to auxiliaries. Wincing and straining as he stood, he made his way over to his cell door, peering through the narrow slit that was his only window to the outside. The few guards that were assigned to this detention hall were all hustling about, going from one end of the corridor to the other, apparently scrambling to gather any kind of information regarding the apparent attack.

And for the first time in quite a long while, Vance managed to really and truly smile.

Rhea was sitting cross-legged on the floor of her cell facing the hallway where navy troopers paroled left to right, her eyes closed she still felt their movements. Every now and again she could hear their clunky boots stomping onto the steel floor. Yet everything was so silent. Too silent. She had complied with everything her captures had asked of her, she knew their was not point in resisting. She had never encountered these people before, and she did not know what they were capable of. Rhea had been detained by the ENS Punisher about a week earlier, but she did not remember much from that day.

Rhea set out from her homeworld of Mirial, now a long time ago, to traverse into the unknown regions of space. She did not understand why it was there she was destined to go. Even so she followed the guidance she had received from the force. The guidance to a far distant planet, a place with such a draw of the light side of the force. She knew it was her destiny to travel to this far off planet. Her upbringing as a Mirialan had taught her, it was best not to question the will of the force.

As far as she could gather she had been found drifting unconsciously in unfamiliar territory. Territory of an empire, the Eternal Empire. She had awoken in the very cell she was now mediating in with no recollection of what had brought her there. She did yet recall the countless sessions of excruciating pain that were meant to 'inspire' her to give up any and all information on something called the Eclipse Rebellion. She of course had no idea who they were. Probably some hopeless group of overly idealistic warriors wanting to bring down another 'empire'. They had also explained that she was found aboard her ship talking to herself. Saying things about the force and the Jedi and about finding a planet. Rhea did not question their accusation, the force does work in mysterious ways. They did inform here the she had been brought under the charge of promoting peace and promoting the Jedi ideology.

Rhea opened her eyes and let out a deep sigh. Her destiny lied elsewhere, not aboard some steel beast. She looked around the steel cage as dread filled her body. Best to forget about all this she thought. Once again she straightened her back and placed her palms facing upward on her knees. She closed her eyes. Just as soon as she had closed her eyes she opened them again. A few seconds letter a loud thud could be heard. Alarms had now started blaring throughout the ship. Rhea sat still in the same position she had for hours, and closed her eyes once again.

Meanwhile, buried deep within the systems of the Imperial Star Destroyer, a tiny worm was burrowing.

The controller of this worm was nowhere nearby--in fact, she was worlds away, on the Imperial homeworld of Kalidan. As the worm burrowed, the controller worked away at the various menial tasks the Imperial palace assigned its droids, tasks that required no thought or creativity. Tasks that allowed the controller to focus on the objectives she had given the worm, back when the Star Destroyer had last docked into an Imperial holonet hardline. Objectives that had been activated as soon as the Star Destroyer made contact with a Rebel Carrier, courtesy of her contacts.

After a few minutes, the worm started to hit pay dirt...and the on-ship comms crackled to life.

<<Hello? Hello hello, can anyone hear me? Boarding parties, Rebel squadrons, please come in. I do not have access to the security cameras yet, I cannot see who is available.>>

Vigil

Orwell, The Librarian
Organics had... habits.

Habits were easily manipulated.

These thoughts oddly provided Vigil a sense of comfort, as he watched some of the security guards walk past, ignoring the 'lowly maintenence' droid wandering the halls. They had no reason to suspect the droid, to give them the very minimal credit they deserved, but beyond that their dismissal was just the point ringing through his digitized brain. That casual dismissal of any and all lowly droids, or droids in general, was the very thing that would today cost them dearly. The information broker had developed an interest in this 'Eclipse Rebellion', the group waging war against the Eternal Empire. They caused chaos, strife, discord, all for the sake of some moral compass.

They were good business.

It was for that reason he himself was here, using his custom body to remain incognito as one of many basic, commonplace droids wandering the ENS Punisher, having smuggled himself aboard for this very mission, waiting for the perfect moment. He, unlike his old, younger self, fully understood the power of patience, the value of a single shot placed not at an opportune moment, but the correct moment. And as the ship shuddered, he wished for once to be gifted a mouth, so that he might grin.

He made his way to his preferred hideaway, the isolated maintenance halls, and found his way to an access point. A bit of integration was all he should need, older ships like these rarely had high end security after all. He felt the familiar connection of his coding to that of the ship itself, and began the process of fully integrating and assuming control. He should be able to maintain his connection, once he established a strong enough connection, and-

"Curious. Another one in the system." Even he couldn't help but mumble the words under his 'breath'. "Well, let's see if you're a bug, or a user."

Connection established.

He stepped away from the access point, and began to stalk away, as he continued to rapidly burrow his own way into the ship's inner workings. His first goal? The cameras, considering his destination. Those prisoners weren't going to free themselves, and he had to make sure they had their library cards before they left.

<<If I may, such a question is both reductive and invasive. I was here first. You should identify yourself and your primary directive>>

Deep inside the ship's computers, the worm was far ahead, having already taken the comms and well on its way towards the security cameras. While this would help the worm's controller monitor the proceedings as the rebels continued boarding the ship, it was merely a side goal on the way to the primary systems controlling cell codes. However, its progress was naturally halted by the ship's computers registering the existence of a new program, with code indicating alignment towards the same systems. If this new intruder proved hostile, progress towards those systems would have to be delayed in favor of elimination.

<<Given the rapid arrival of my people to take this ship, I would not recommend deception.>>

The ship around her was rattling and shaking with an intensity she had never faced before. She could no longer focus on her meditation with all the commotion around her. Although her connection to the force was strong she was had yet to master meditation. Rhea had left before the elders at her temple back home had time to teach her. Rhea shook herself out of her thoughts when all of a sudden a loud blast could be heard as a large steel blast door shoots past Rhea's cell. This prompts Rhea to swiftly open her eyes. Somehow, maybe through intuition, she knew that the people who on the other side of the door meant her no harm. So she instantly stood up and peered through ice-cold steel tubes. Were they being rescued? Maybe it was the Eclipse Rebellion she had heard so much about. No, maybe they were pirates? Here to sell everyone off to slavery. Rhea then reflected on her previous though, they meant her no harm.

Two men scurried over to her cell. One man swung his KC-47 rifle behind his back as he prepared to place a detonation charge on the lock of her cell door. Without warning the cell door slide open, seemed like the charge was no longer needed. "Who are you?" Rhea said staring into the eyes of the soldier. Her glance only for a second fell from his eyes an to a patch on his arm. A logo that was all too familiar, the rebel logo of old, but green? Was this her destiny? Was this what the force had been calling her too? If it was she was prepared to do whatever she needed. "The Eclipse Rebllelion you say, let us get going then" Rhea replied. The man stretched and handed her an S5A rifle. "Aim and pull the trigger right?" Rhea replied to the man's question.

She adjusted the strap around her shoulder and inspected the rifle. She readied herself for an eventual firefight. As she looked down the hallway she could see others on their way out of their cells.

The group made their way down the hallway and out into an even larger hallway. "Copy that," Rhea said lining up behind one of the soldiers. They moved slowly down the hallway as a group of Ultranuts streamed in from an intersecting hallway. Rhea pointed her rifle downrange and opened fire. The rebels seemed trained in the use of their blasters, but she had never touched one before. Were they ever going to make it to the hangar she thought to herself? Seemed unlikely.

Dag was awakened from his sleep by his room suddenly shaking. He'd thought he imagined it, that the combination of hunger and mental exhaustion was finally starting to take serious effect, and cause him to hallucinate. That idea was quickly disrupted, when the room shifted several more times, a deep echo traveling through the hull. Turbulence? Had they hit some kind of cosmic storm, or wandered through a micro debris field? The Unknown Regions were called that for a reason; a lot of it was uncharted due to the hazards that were prevalent in it. Nah, this whatever it was, the hits were too organized to just be some random space rocks.

The lights in his cell would flicker briefly, before cuffs to his bindings were released, allowing his body to drop to the ground. Everything ached. Every muscles felt like a bed sore. He rubbed his wrists and ankles, the skin on them having begun to wear away in scar tissue after so long in the same position. He was free now. Either through some glitch in the system... No, now that was nearly impossible. Something more was going on here. Through the door of his cell, he could hear shouting and yelling, along with the blare of an alarm. The voices were too muffled to make out anything useful, however. A few got closer, drawing close to his hell. Damn. Damn.

He backed away from the door, and swept his hair backwards, out of his face, and got in a fighting stance. Well, whatever happened next, he didn't have to make it easy on them. When the door to his cell slide open, he launched himself at whatever lay on the other side. "YAAAAGHH!" He swung, his fist connecting with something soft and wet. A surprised and pain yell went into the air, before the sound of a gun being readied caused him to pause. He looked down at what he had hit, a man dressed in combat gear and uniform that was clearly not the Empire's. He held his nose in beneath his hands, tears welling up in his eyes.

"Stand down! We aren't the Imperials!", a voice from behind him, a woman, said. "We're with the Eclipse Rebellion." The man got up, scowling at him, before going to his side and handing him a blaster pistol. "We're freeing everyone on this damned thing. And every extra gun counts." Down the hall, Dag saw other cells being opened by other rebels, including Rhea Kintre Rhea Kintre 's. He took the blaster, hesitantly, going over it before letting it's weight settle in his hands.
He followed his liberators to another cell, that of VanceCaydence VanceCaydence , and waited for them to open it.

Vigil

Orwell, The Librarian
<<"No more invasive hacking into a government's encrypted system. Naughty little rebel you are.">> He chuckled and ducked out of the maintenance halls, into the proper corridors of the ship. There were security guards walking around, running really, and chatter about the location and status of ultranaut and combat engineer squads, giving him a very brief idea of what was ahead. The security guards were easy fodder, the Model 9 could easily handle them. The proper soldiers though, he'd have to resort to the Model 44 to handle with any kind of ease. With any luck, the Rebels would occupy their attention.

<<"And how pray tell do you intend to tell if I am making an attempt at deception, Rebel User? Reading my emotions?">> His left leg opened, and Vigil reached down, wrapping metallic fingers around the Model 9, pulling it free, then pressing the barrel to the stored silencer sideways, and twisting it, to click it into place. There would be no circumstance, by his calculation, he could avoid murder entirely. Not that he wanted to, he almost hoped he could find one at the least to.. interrogate.

<<"All the same, I am not here as an enemy, so you can calm your circuits. I am VG-01, representative of Mr. Orwell and The Vigilant. The Head Librarian has grown an interest in your cause and sent me here as a token of good will. The prisoners on board are of interest to you, yes? Mr. Orwell has instructed me to free them, with their library cards.">> He turned the corner, continuing the silent trek onwards, swiftly.<<"Truth be told, I was unaware you would be using such an advanced program, dare I say an AI. Perhaps sending me alone was overkill with such a case.">>

He turned another corner and continued on his way, hurrying but still walking calmly. He could hear blasterfire in the distance, so it was already a jail break in progress. He kept his disguise, and focused his efforts. If the other AI attempted to terminate his program, the connection would simply cut, and he'd have to play it by ear. If not, he'd continue the attempt at accessing the cameras and similar systems, having enough free space in his data storage to focus on the task while still acting his part of the jail break. Speaking of which, he had to hurry along.

Along the way, he kept happening upon small numbers of guardsmen, caught separated from the others. Two or three at a time. The end result was the same, two or three silenced shots as he continued unerringly towards the prisoners. Single minded, perhaps, in his main objective. These cards were the main, easiest way for a group to access his organization securely, they needed to be delivered on time. He wondered what the organics making a break for it would think, as he neared the prison cells, of a single maintenance droid slaughtering guards silently.
