Orin is a man of average height and stocky build and with no real distinguishing features. He has no scarring, unlike many of his army counterparts, as he's had little exposure to conflict which would inflict grievous injury
He is a naval officer who hold little mercy or remorse toward his adversaries, which in turn make him a terror to those who come across him and his fleet. He is a military genius and his tactics and maneuvers on the battlefield made him responsible for the destruction of over 90% of his opponents.
Orin's unquestioned obedience is limited strictly to individuals he respects, and he has no problem showing open disdain for authority from anyone outside his circle. He places his duty above all else, and often holds the view that his view is the correct view. He openly resents most politicians for their hawkish military policies, and also because of his discharge prior to his reentry into the military.

RELATIONSHIPS

Enlisting into the First Order Army at the age of 34, then-Private Orin Valk was the oldest soldier in his basic training class. He graduated an infantryman and went on to serve in some of the First Order's earliest conflicts. He saw a gradual climb through the ranks, eventually reaching the rank of Master Sergeant, serving as the Acting Commander of Qek Company, First Reconnaissance Battalion. His unit rapidly gained a reputation for their ruthless efficiency, paving the way for their leadership to mark their unit as the tip of the spear. They often played the role of the vanguard, being the first ones to go behind enemy lines and report intelligence back before the main force arrives. Though recon was their primary mission, they were real killers capable of delivering devastating damage to enemy infantry.
But even killers can be killed. When the Battle of Kaeshana took place, Qek Company was among the initial forces on the ground. They managed to beat the Galactic Alliance to some key strategic positions, but holding them proved to be a daunting task. For countless hours, Qek Company saw its numbers withered down little by little, but for every life lost, five enemy lives were taken. Valk collected himself over 40 confirmed kills himself, and by the end of that battle, the number tripled. However, by then, Qek Company also saw it's numbers reduced to 30% strength, all commissioned officers and it's first sergeant amongst the casualties. Valk was the next in line for command. Though not unprecedented in major conflicts for NCOs to assume positions of command typically reserved for officers, it was exceptionally rare. His name became that of stories at higher echelons. When he was awarded the Gilded Iron Sun, the First Order's third highest honor, he gained some fame amongst the military community. What they didn't know was the tragedy that was came with it.
Not only was he reminded of the souls lost at his side and under his command, but also his wife, who served as a field nurse at forward operating bases. Valk often took solace that his wife was safe, far from conflict and confined to the safety of First Order bases. After returning to the FIV Fervor, the cruiser from which he deployed, he was delivered the news. His wife had been killed along with the rest of those on the FOB. An Alliance Jedi had pulled a star destroyer from orbit, crushing the remote base and medical stations within it.
After the treachery on Kaeshana, what happened in the months that followed not only surprised him, it angered him. The First Order and the Galactic Alliance had signed an armistice, and the war seemed to be at an end. After all he had suffered, the politicians in office were willing to forgive Like much of the older persons in the service, he was discharged. For the years that followed he, he sought employment in the private sector as a security consultant for a shipping company. He tried to forget the angst caused by both the Alliance and his own government, but all it brought about was disgust.
853 ABY.
Rumors began circling that a coalition was to launch a multi-pronged offensive against the Galactic Alliance. Confirming the First Order's involvement with comrades still active in military intelligence, Valk used his wife's connections in the Ministry of Defense to get himself reinstated at the rank of Lieutenant Commander, conditional on his graduation from the First Order War College. As in his basic training class, he was his class's distinguished honor graduate, driven by both vengeance and a reignited sense of patriotism. He served as the tactical action officer aboard the star destroyer the FIV Viridian, where he had an ongoing feud with the ship's executive officer, forcing him to transfer to the FIV Demeter as its Marine Detachment Commander. He later served as the executive officer of the FIV Excelsior, before earning his own command, a light cruiser by the name of the FIV Leviathan.
