STRENGTHS
- Exterior docking allows servicing of a multitude of ship classes and types.
- No offensive firepower.
- Slow to reposition.
Inheriting the Trist design from their former parent company, Outer Rim Resources redesigned the station for the modern galaxy, more than doubling the size to accommodate more travelers and larger ships. Once in place, they're wonderfully easy to keep running and practically idiot-proof with the number of computer and mechanical safeties built into them to prevent tired workers and visiting spacers from accidentally hurting themselves, wasting materials, or wandering into dangerous areas.
Capital ships can dock at each of the main arms, and smaller ships can berth directly in one of the bays along the central section of the station proper. Crews are welcome to traverse the passenger areas and avail themselves of the amenities and luxuries to be found there, like a general store or a hot shower with real water. There are also restaurants and hotels for people waiting for longer repairs or for a ship to come in.
The upper disk of the station contains the massive double-walled tanks that hold the fuel and cargo bays waiting to resupply ships, as well as several repair bays for the small ships and a machine shop for basic part repair or fabrication. The top arms branching out from this section contain the massive fuel lines out to ships and allow the repair crews to transport material to and from the ships without having to go through the public sections of the station.
Defensively, the OTC plays host to twenty quad lasers. Ten of the guns are evenly spaced around the edge of the large top disk, while five are placed on its top and the other five on the bottom edge of the lower disk to provide the best fields of fire. Of course, the station's best defense is its deflector shields, but those will only hold out for so long without friendly forces nearby to drive off any attackers.
