OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
SETTING INFORMATION
  • Mine Name: ORR Water Site: Hadley’s Hope
  • Material: Phrikite, Water
  • Location: Gromas 16
  • Affiliation: Outer Rim Resources
  • Size: Small
  • Population: Sparsely Staffed
  • Profit: High
  • Accessibility: The moisture farming part of the operation operates openly on the surface, but isolated by hundreds of kilometers of desert to ‘prevent encroachment’ on water vapor and to take advantage of a nearby mountain range that blocks the wind and moisture from blowing past the farm. Beneath, the Phrik mine is hidden, with even the freighter traffic disguised as for the Water Site. Access is strictly controlled and defended.
  • Description: On the surface, this is a corporate water farm, using systems similar to Tatooine to harvest moisture from the desert planet’s air. This water is then sold to others living and working on the moon. Under the covered hanger, a secret tunnel leads to an underground mining town that uses droids and automation to mine old Tikulini tunnels that run past a phrikite vein.

POINTS OF INTEREST
  • ORR Water Site: Hadley’s Hope: The public face of the mine, Hadley’s is composed of a scattering of pourstone buildings built in the Tatooine style with most of the storage and living quarters a few meters underground. Moisture vaporators spread out in loose rings and clusters from the faculty. After the introduction of ORR’s GR-90 Transports, the sunken light freighter bay was expanded into a dug-out large enough to accommodate the larger ships.
  • Entrance Tunnel: A hidden, scan-shielded, tunnel that extends from the docking bay and down 500 meters to the mine. Protected by a fast blast door at the top and a much heavier blast door at the base. The mine’s main defenses are also here, consisting of anti-vehicle and anti-personal turrets.
  • Underground Town: A small town built into a fifty-by-eighty meter cavern with a high twenty-meter ceiling at its peak. Home to the miners and their worker droids, the construction mimics the pourstone and duracrete of the water site and Tatooine though painted in greens, blues, oranges, and reds to brighten the place up and mimic the nighttime bioluminescence on Felucia. The cavern walls and floor are durasteel lined duracreete, a defense against burrowing creatures to prevent infestations from harming the miners. Adjacent to the tunnel entrance are another two landing pads for light freighters. Emergency power is provided by a S9 power droid should the main generators go offline.
  • Refinery: A small smelter and mint that processes the phrikite ore into phrik. Uses a Shen-Ru cargo hold to separate out the unusable cuttings before the ores are smelted and mixed with imported tydirium to form the final alloy. A low-emissions faculty, the refinery also runs air purifiers to keep the air breathable.
  • Mine Tunnels: Headed by a bay and repair shops for the mining droids and suit storage for the workers, these mines streets along a rich vein of phrikite a tikulini once burrowed alongside. Miners use high-powered plasma torches and specialized walkers to do work the droids cannot, with an emphasis on safety, using small probe droids to scout and scan for potential dangers.

SECURITY
High

  • Perimeter Fence: A standard fence field that prevents intrusion by people or animals into Hadley’s Hope. The stun setting discourages most wildlife from breaching the perimeter and endangering the water site workers or from stealing the amassed water.
  • Perimeter Sensors: Standard security sensors that detect movement and life. Connected to a security monitoring station.
  • Quad AA Turrets: A pair of AA turrets in the hills overlooking Hadley’s Hope. More to discourage water thieves than any real threat.
  • Blast Doors: A pair of heavy doors that protect the mine’s entrance tunnel. The surface door is disguised as part of the docking bay and fast to open and close, while the lower one is extra thick and magnetically sealed to resist even turbolaser fire.
  • Tunnel Turrets: Inside the tunnel is a kill zone of automated and remote turret fire, mixing both anti-personal and heavy laser turret fire. With no cover for attackers and the steep slope of the tunnel, attacking is a difficult proposition.
  • Energy Baffler: Blocks energy scans of the town and refinery. Combined with the depth, it renders the operation incredibly difficult to detect.
  • Tunnel Collapse: Should the tunnel be lost or defenses wrecked, the miners can collapse the entrance, sealing themselves far underground. They have supplies, air purifiers, and can dig their way out at their leisure. Alternatively, there’s a light freighter on standby at the end of the tunnel they can flee in.

HISTORICAL INFORMATION
Established by Domino after a joint venture with Hk-36 and Rave Merrill to provide phrik for personal projects. The then leader of the Black Suns returned with her private company, Outer Rim Resources, to more firmly establish the permanent mine. Materials and technology were purchased from scattered points and in cash using false identities and only brought together on location. Since then, the disguise of water production for the surrounding desert has held up at a tidy profit, while the small phrik operation continues undisturbed.

During the first expedition, the group was attacked by a tikulini. The giant worm turned out to be a blessing in disguise as it had been following the deep vein and its attack provided a relatively easy path to clear down to the ore. During her second visit, Domino was attacked by bone gnasher spiders attracted to the great worm’s remains and easy nest in the tunnels. After clearing them, Domino fortified the underground settlement against further burrowing creatures and ensured the miner’s power suits and droids were equipped to deal with more.
