Special Features:
· When activated, the OS-108 emits a personal energy shield over the wearer’s wrist that measures 45cm in diameter.
· On a single charge, this energy shield is capable of deflecting numerous blaster shots (approximately 25 from most pistols or light rifles, 15 from most heavy rifles, 2 from most sniper rifle or heavier weapons, 0 from heavy blaster cannon emplacements or starship weapons), as well as numerous melee strikes or projectiles (approximately 50 small calibre projectiles, 25 heavy calibre projectiles) and limited lightsaber strikes (approximately 5-10).
· When the shield has used up its charge, it will automatically deactivate. New power cells can be replaced into the unit at a rate of slow.
· If the unit is plugged into a port on the OS-103 armor, it can be automatically set to recharge itself using the suit’s power system. This process takes approximately thirty seconds. The suit’s power core will give the unit an additional two full charges, at the expense of the suit’s sound-dampening field, though the user can opt to lock out this feature at any time.
· When not deflecting anything, the unit can remain engaged for a total of thirty minutes of continuous operation on a single charge.
Strengths:
· Well protected: The energy shield emitted by the OS-108 is excellent at deflecting blaster, projectile and melee strikes as well as limited lightsaber strikes.
· Portable and light: The wrist mounted emitter is very light and easy to wear, making it an excellent substitute for physical shields or armor. The wrist emitter unit is also relatively small and easy to conceal under clothing.
Weaknesses:
· Difficult to recharge: Due to where the power cell port is located on the unit, it is somewhat difficult to change out power cells. As a result, reloading power cells on this unit would occur at a rate of: slow
· Small shield diameter: Unlike other personal shields, which can encompass the wearer entirely, this unit only emits a circular field that is 45cm in diameter. Any incoming attacks that land outside this field will not be deflected.
· Slow recharge time/limited reuse with OS-103: Though the unit can be set to recharge automatically if plugged into one of the OS-103’s wrist ports the process takes approximately thirty seconds, which in combat situations can be an eternity. In addition, the OS-103 can only charge the unit an addition two times, assuming the suit’s power cell is at full power to begin with.
