- Troop Carrier: The Chariot possesses enough space to house a battalion of soldiers and their gear and possesses the hangar space and support craft to land them quickly from orbit.
- Fast and Maneuverable: To make up for it's lack of weaponry, the Chariot has a faster cruising speed and more efficient truster assembly than most ships of it's tonnage. The idea behind this is to allow the ship to enter orbit, disembark its troops and get underway before enemy vessels are able to engage it.
- Weak Armament: The Chariot frigate was not designed as a combat vessel and carries a small armament than most ships of its tonnage.
- Weak Defenses: The Chariot possesses a very limited set of defenses in the form of a bare bones standard shield array and nothing else.
The OSA-5 "Chariot" Transport Frigate was created to transport troops into orbit of enemy held planets while being able to provide a measure of protection and support to them that was not inherent in most troop transport craft. By utilizing its quick speed and nimble maneuverability, the Chariot is designed to avoid or outmaneuver most craft of its size. As well, each Frigate generally carries a squadron of escort fighters for further protection. The Chariot boasts enough hangar space and support craft to quickly disembark a battalion's worth (approximately 600 troops) of combat forces in the form of tactical drop pods and/or dropships. It has a standard crew compliment of approximately one-hundred fifty with droids and other automation supplementing the work load.
