- Multirole Capabilities: Designed to give the user as much operational flexibility as possible, regardless of galactic region, planetary environment, or specific nature of the mission at hand. The F-600 Kalidor can operate both in atmosphere, as well as in orbit and deep-space, while its abilities can wildly differ based on the loadout assigned to it, though include everything from close air support to fleet defense. Likewise developed to be highly modular, from auxiliary components down to its very foundations, it can be rearranged into any number of baseline configurations by the operator.
- Highly Agile: Necessary due to the larger physical presence of the Kalidor; a priority for the development team to begin with was the agility and manoeuvrability of the starfighter. Not wanting to have it be hindered in any noticeable way due to the importance of such functions given its nature as a multirole strike fighter; once testing begun it was revealed that they may have in-fact gone overboard on their aversion to a lack of manoeuvrability, and as such the F-600 boasts a high level of combat agility, making it ideal for space-to-space, or air-to-air dogfights.
- Cost Efficient: Not specializing in any one area of performance (Although it can certainly be reconfigured to; and future models will) it was a requirement by the marketing team for the Kalidor to appeal to potential clients from an economic standpoint. From this, focus was given to the starfighter's structural durability, and airframe longevity in the process of producing the design. Successful in their efforts, the F-600 does not require as much maintenance and man hours as many of its comparable competitors to keep running and up to date, and though moderately expensive to purchase initially, studies have shown that in the long run it will save the operator money.
- Impressive Survivability: Although not the most well-defended starship in the galaxy, the F-600 is capable of taking a higher level of punishment than some other starfighters. Structurally sound, and manufactured from durable, composite materials supported by a powerful interior skeletal support frame, the physical strength of the Kalidor is matched only by its technological defenses, capable of dispatching flares, dummy targets, jamming missiles and defending itself from electronic warfare, ranging from mere disruption of signal to full attempts at on-board software hacking. Pilots of the F-600 are not to be seen as expendable.
- Electronic Reliant: Packed to the brim with an assortment of both standardized, and advanced avionic systems, the F-600 Kalidor is a technologically abundant starfighter that enables the pilot significant connection to all aspects of the battlespace. However, what is a great strength, may also become a great weakness. In the event of an overwhelming electromagnetic pulse or ion attack on the craft, one which overpowers its on-board countermeasures, the Kalidor will become vulnerable to some impending enemy attacks. Osato Aerospace recommends the user retreat immediately if this occurs, and is not responsible for user death.
- Physically Large: It is no hidden fact that the Kalidor is an imposing, and heavy model of starfighter, particularly when compared to many of its competitors, as well as many other unrelated models in galactic naval aviation. Required in-order to fit the plethora of heavy laser weaponry, the quantity of missiles and bombs and wide array of advanced electrical systems, the F-600 is a noticeably large target to hit, both from the perspective of enemy fighters, as well as any potential anti-aircraft batteries on the ground in the case of atmospheric operations. Any prospective users will certainly need to own the ability to take advantage of its agility before entering the cockpit.
The Osato Aerospace F-600 Kalidor is a twin ion engine, carrier-capable, trans-atmospheric multirole strike fighter developed jointly between Osato Aerospace and Nakaioma Fleet Systems. Designed as a dedicated interceptor and space superiority starfighter, it eventually evolved into an all-purpose fighter. Presenting a number of quality of life features for pilots, the Kalidor includes a frameless glasteel bubble canopy for better visibility, side-mounted control stick to ease control while manoeuvring, and an integrated escape pod built into the cockpit, enabling it to detach from the rest of the fighter. It maintains two in-built heavy laser cannons in its nose, and sixteen hardpoints for the attachment of additional weaponry and required mission equipment. It was dubbed 'Kalidor' after an avian predator species from the planet Davnar II.
Designed and produced by Osato Aerospace at the request of Nakaioma Defense Dynamics; the Kalidor took its first flight in 863ABY, and begun low-rate production in 865ABY, it has yet to begin full-rate production at the time of writing. Requested by its sister corporation and fellow subsidiary of NAKAIOMA; the F-600 was the result of NDD's desire for a general expansion into the markets of aviation, and in-particular naval aviation. It was this inter-corporation cooperation that would begin to plague the project, and continuously did throughout the majority of its earlier development, with a lack of consensus on the starcraft's intended role between the executives of both firms leading to back-and-forth design changes occurring frequently. It was only upon intervention from the parent corporation, viewing the bickering as detrimental, and leading to an unnecessary waste of money, that an agreement was made, and the Kalidor became a multirole fighter.
Meant to be a baseline fighter model, able to be easily adapted, updated and generally changed to meet whatever circumstances necessary. The F-600 can cast a wide net in regards to client desires, capable of fulfilling most-- if not all-- roles, while still being open to further adaption, and the inclusion of foreign, or otherwise non-Nakaioma technological components.
