Ossus Academy Younglings

Fletcher had been at the Academy for nearly a year now and was almost eleven years old. Ossus was similar to his home planet Naboo in many ways. The lush vegetation and thriving wildlife had made him feel more at home. Once he arrived at the Academy, he was sorted into a clan, which he learnt that he would be living with until he was no longer a youngling. Fletcher was placed in the Bear Clan for his courage and bravery, which was apparently something a Jedi had used the Force to see, though he still didn't quite understand the power the Force. As a child, he was very keen to learn but very playful and naive as well.

He had wanted to become a Jedi so badly after his siblings turned to the dark side. Although he was only beginning to learn not to dwell on the past. Since he left his home planet, he had been plagued with nightmares about the future, or at least what he thought was the future.

The clan did everything together and at the moment they were training with training lightsabers. They weren't strong enough to be deadly but could give a nasty burn when touched. Fletcher felt as though the blade was huge compared to him, although he was short for his age. He swung his training saber around recklessly, pretending he was in combat, whilst they began to finish their training for the day.

Dair was sixteen and had been at the Academy for two years now. The travails of the past still haunted him, though he was receiving personal training from some Masters on meditation techniques to help him get through the emotions and find balance. He tried very hard not to feel their worries, being naturally empathic he was very sensitive to peoples emotions and when he was around the main emotion that Masters exuded was worry. Being sixteen, he was starting to spurt up growth wise. He had grown almost a foot in the past few months, reaching something approaching his adult height, or so he hoped as he towered over all the younglings in his clan and some of the Masters.

It was while attempting to meditate in the Bear Clan common room, that Dair felt a familiar emotional pattern. Without opening his eyes, he smiled and said.

"Hello Fletcher..." after a moment, he opened his eyes to see if he had gotten it right, grinning widely.

"Woah, how'd you know it was me?" he asked, standing still but still keeping the training saber ignited in his hand. Before he'd grown into arrogance, he was modest about his lightsaber skills. Though he wasn't exactly Knight or Padawan worthy, he was one of the best in the clan, though he didn't think it. He merely found it enjoyable.

"Oh wait are you meditating? Sorry." he said, not wanting to get in the way.

Uri found himself away from the rest of the other younglings in the clan. Despite it being time for light sabertraining, he didn't train. He did like the lightsabers. He was a pacifist the idea of carrying such a weapon seemed silly. Everyone he saw seemed to reach for the saber first then contemplated action. He didn't feel the same way so he easily slipped from the clan. The instructor rarely noticed Uri when he did. He sat by himself and read through a leather bound journal looking over the pages. Each page scrawled on with coal. Pictures and drawings scattered in the midst of the written pages. He was twelve not as small as some but definitely not the largest. He still wore his monk robes despite being at the academy for a little more than a month. His hair grown out slightly from his head giving him a nice few centimeters of gold hair coming out of his golden scalp.

He wasn't use to being around others not to mention others his own age. So the naturally quiet boy became quite shy in his new surroundings. He grew up in a monastery away from large groups of people. Ossus was similar to Agamar but the Temple was definitely not his monastery. He was still suffering from a bit of culture shock from the move to the academy.

Uri glanced up catching sight of two of the other boys who weren't training with sabers at the moment. The well one he considered a boy the other looked almost too old to be a youngling. Their names escaped him. He was never really good with names though.

Fletcher noticed one of the clan newer clan members sitting by himself. He didn't know much about the boy, despite them being in the same clan together. Fletcher had been at the Academy for almost a year now but he knew Uri had only been here about a month or so. He walked over to the youngling and took the leather journal from his hands without asking, not trying to be mean, though the gesture was kind of intimidating. He stared at the pages for a moment before realising the book was upside down and so turning it the other way. "What are you reading?" he finally asked.

"This is Dair." he said, using his head to indicate to the teen whilst he looked at the journal.

Fletcher Lorcan said:
"Oh wait are you meditating? Sorry." he said, not wanting to get in the way.
"Attempting to...my failure at it, however, does not reside in anything you've done. I just can't clear my mind." Dair shrugged and pulled his knees up to his chest, resting his chin on them. He watched as Fletcher walked over to the new kid, not hiding his interest, but remaining silent for the time being.

It startled Uri as his precious journal left his hand. He looked up as another boy had it now. Without giving it much more thought other than he needed to get his book back, Uri stood and in a quick motion snatched it back out of his hands. Uri didn't realize how mean that was. The fact of the matter was that back on Agamar. The monks would never do that. He was taught no to do that. He found himself staring awkwardly at the smaller human boy. He didn't have much social skills didn't understand how to treat someone else his age or what to even begin to say to him.

"It is my journal. Secrets that only I should know," His Agamarian accent was still some what thick mainly noticeable by the different way he accented the vowels. His eyes darted from the boy in front of him to the other seated a bit away. His small mind racing despite trying to stay calm in the situation. He feared they didn't like him and might come after him. Uri was prepared to defend himself however if he needed to.

Dair cocked his head to the side as he watched the exchange between the two younger boys. He couldn't quite place the accent, and felt that perhaps a little change of subject could calm the situation.

"Where is your accent from?" He asked, then thought of something else, "By the way, I am Dair."

Fletcher drew his hands back but didn't say anything, after all it was Uri's book and he did take it from him in the first place. He had grown up with three siblings and they used to take from each other all the time.

He looked up at the boy, who must have been a year or two older, or maybe just taller, and smiled at him. "Hi, I'm... Fletcher." he said after a moments hesitation. He had been given another name by his fosterer but often forgot he had to use it. "I'm sorry for taking your journal." he said quietly. "I didn't realise it was personal."

Uri glanced between the two not sure which to reply to first. They weren't as bad as he originally thought? Still Uri was sheepish. He wasn't sure how to communicate with the other boys or how to act or react. In many ways, he didn't understand what it was like to be a child. He was a monk first in his mind then a youngling. It was an odd way for him to think but Uri didn't know any different.

Uri smiled awkwardly as he placed the book into his robes, "No harm done... I'm Uri." He snaked his head around Fletcher to look at Dair. "I'm from Agamar... are you trying to meditate?"

Fletcher frowned and cocked his head to the side. "Agamar, where's that?" he asked, having known only Ossus and Naboo his whole life. He'd spent all his life in the North of Naboo, and with a younger sibling and two older ones. He was often ignored and had never been to school, which led to him never interacting with other children. He treated every child as he treated his siblings as it was all he ever known.

"Want to play a game?" he asked, smiling. "With training lightsabers." he added.

Uri Aureleos said:
"I'm from Agamar... are you trying to meditate?"
Dair grinned softly at the new youngling. "Try being the operative word. The longest I've maintained a meditative state has been ten minutes..." He blew the air out of his lungs in a sigh and shrugged. "I'll get it though, perseverance is practically my middle name." Dair offered a sad grin, striving to keep the memories of hatful things and the lack of memories of his home from either showing on his face, or getting to him emotionally. Control was something he constantly strove for.

"It's uhh..." To tell the truth Uri wasn't really sure where Agamar was in the galaxy. He would be out of luck if he ever needed to get back their anytime soon. Which that seemed like a good idea at the moment. He felt a little crowded with the boy standing in front of him. Was it normal for others to stand so closely? Maybe he was really at fault for being raised as a monk. The question for a game with lightsabers made Uri wince. He didn't care for sabers this is why he sat by himself away from the rest of the younglings. He simply shook his head to Fletcher.

"I can help you to meditate if you want..." He trailed off a little at the end. His shy demeanor slipping back through. "I've... had a lot of practice."

Dair smiled, he liked this new kid. Dair planned to master meditation, especially if it made the dreams stop.

"Maybe later, Uri. You're new here, so tell us something of your life and what brought you here." He propped his hands under his chin and looked at the other two boys. "We'll tell you some of our stories as well." He continued, though he forcibly pushed the memories back from his mind.

Uri's eyes grew a little wider. He wasn't to sure about the swapping stories. He still wasn't completely sure about them. He gripped his sleeves in his hands. Maybe fletcher's idea of the lightsaber game seemed like a good idea now. Uri took a deep breath. "My master brought me here... from Agamar... on a ship." He hoped this would work for a story. Uri lowered his head slightly. He wasn't much of a talker. Some might even say he hated to do so. Either way he didn't give them much of a conversation.

Fletcher smiled at Uri, it was clear that the other boy was somewhat nervous. He had never heard of Agamar, or really any other planets besides his home planet and wherever the Jedi temples were. He deactivated the training lightsaber he was holding and put it away before rejoining the boys. "I'm an immigrant from Naboo." he said. It had been less than a year since he left and the full force of what happened there still hadn't hit him. "I fled almost a year ago." he said, then looking at Dair expectantly.
