- First Order manufactured sensor and scanning systems, which retain typical properties and technical strengths of the individual components included in the suite
- Using a combination of redundant, non-conductive armorplast, standard components and rubber layering, as well as pyronium-insulation on circuitry, the sensor suite is protected from EMP disruption by a Faraday cage-like encasing
- Suite boasts efficiency and technological improvement on First Order standard technology, through assistance from Chiss engineering efforts
- Can be damaged by military-grade weapons if not protected adequately
- Requires replacement if components damaged or destroyed
- Offers little more than continued sensor data, if vessel it's installed on is disabled or unable to remain in combat
- Ineffective against cloaked vessels
- Able to be affected by sensor disruption coatings and technology
- Requires adequate power and space, not available to starships smaller than Corvette-class
The Overseer Sensor Suite brings together a number of standard sensor and scanning components, manufactured by First Order and Chiss technicians, and placed within an EMP shielded encasing. By applying several protective layers of ceramic-based armorplast and rubber, the manufacturers were able to create a non-conductive Faraday cage for the suite. And by using pyronium-insulated circuitry, the techs were able to dissipate electromagnetic bursts before they reached the sensor suites systems.
This protection acts as a method of retaining sensor data, should the vessel it's part of become disabled or unable to continue in battle.
Overall, the only addition to typical sensors is the inclusion of the Chiss Light Detection and Ranging System, which operates under similar methods to the components of the CS-Seeker Tracking/Targeting System, also manufactured by both First Order and Chiss engineers through collaborative effort. The only difference being it's primarily used for ranging purposes, to better correlate sensor data and accuracy of the Overseer Sensor Suite. This is achieved by internal sensors that measure distance to a target by illuminating that target with pulsed laser light, before using the reflected pulses as a means of measuring distance.
Finally, this system requires adequate power and space, and is unavailable to anything less than a Corvette-class First Order vessel.
