- [Strength] High-capacity targeting systems and long range armaments allow the Ovid to bombard enemy vessels from extreme ranges.
- [Weakness] The Ovid-Class has precious few rear-facing guns, leaving its engines aft sections perilously vulnerable.
The Ovid-Class Star Cruiser is capable of entering and exiting atmospheres, now allowing the Helix Syndicate to encourage timely payment of debts from just about everyone, planetary governments included. Truly this is a revolution that all in the market of debt collection behold with a mix of abject horror and giddy delight.
Aside from its heavy armor, the Ovid comes with a redundant shield generator and a network of cap drains and de-ionizers. Among the other stations in the bridge is a small, modernized Central Control Computer, allowing the vessel’s automated deckhands to benefit from greater cohesion and increased efficiency. If carrying squadrons, the Central Control Computer will coordinate them as well.
The vast majority of the Ovid’s weapons have extreme range capabilities. These heavy guns are operated by a network of Epicurus-Class Droid Brains outfitted with the Sagittarius-Class Targeting System. This advanced, self-adjusting technology allows the Ovid to target enemy capital ships at far greater ranges than normal, unloading turbolaser volleys with impunity and precision before hostile ships can even get within range.
DESCRIPTION
The Ovid-Class Star Cruiser was designed to serve as the ship-of-the-line for the Helix Syndicate’s private armada. To this end, it is a robust vessel in terms of its armaments, although it is damnably slow moving. The weaponry of the Ovids are primarily geared towards engaging other capital ships in combat. Combining this with its pitiful speed and maneuverability, an Ovid will almost always require escorts in order to make the most of it in any given engagement.
Ovids are made specifically to be crewed by droids. With the exception of the bridge controls, manning most stations elsewhere on the ship requires direct interfacing with a computer probe port. Some areas of the ship, particularly maintenance passages, are not even connected to the life support system. Other areas seem to disregard most guidelines for the safety of organic personnel, largely because organic personnel should never reasonably have to be in those areas.
Internal defenses for the Ovids are worth noting, as the Helix Syndicate is particularly wary of boarding parties. Auto-turrets and ray shield traps are common fixtures in the most easily accessible areas of the ship. The closer one gets to the bridge, the more likely they are to encounter these defenses… And redundant, magnetically sealing blast doors.
When ferrying ground forces, the Ovid can comfortably carry 10 troop transports, 20 light walkers, and 10 heavy walkers in addition to its landing craft. Sufficient space is also available to comfortably house 370 organic soldiers or 700 battle droids. These accommodations can also be tailored for civilian passengers or just simple bulk cargo as well, but there are ultimately ships out there far more suited to the task than an Ovid.
