Faction Owl Knight [Knighting, RJC]

Location: Dagobah, RJC Temple, Tash's Rest

Nadira found Pyeth in the canopy, staring intently at what appeared to be pods constructed of mud. She landed besides, the branch momentarily trembling beneath their combined weight.

"Finally found you."

Pyeth broke concentration, looking up to see Nadira from his crouched position. "Hello." He said before turning back.

"Why are you watching mud dry?" She asked, lowering her voice in whisper as he raised a wing.

"Jubba Birds." He replied, "I been studying them." He pointed as one of the avians returned to its nest from below, shaping and moulding the mud.

"Bird? Looks closer to a bat." Nadira flinched, on that he agreed. Replace the beak with a snout. Plus the distinct lack of fluffy feathers.

"Why are you studying them?" She asked

"They're Force Sensitive, and their song. It helps people relax. I want to know if I could achieve something similar, it would work wonders with difficult patients."

Nadira looked at him suspiciously, "Have you had much success. Using mimicry?"

"No... I can replicate the song easy enough. But there is something more."

"Uh-huh. I suspect your here for another reason, something to do with the Jedi Council?"

Pyeth didn't respond, she was right. She was always right. The Knighthood, it's responsibility worried him. "I trust Tiland's wisdom."

"And yourself?"

Pyeth hesitated, "No. Not completely. I'm worried I'll disappoint them, like I did my family."

"No. I don't think so. Rishii agreed right? Speaking of Rishii, I wanted to give you something." She reached around her back, pulling free a package and handed it to him. It was wrapped in paper?

"What's this? A paper box."

"No. It's wrapping. Apparently, according to a Padawan, it's normal to wrap gifts."

Pyeth nodded, "May I?"

"Of course, but you should know. You can't open it if your not going to attend the ceremony tomorrow."

Pyeth shook his head, a feint smirk. He leaned in pulling away the paper and box to find a pair of Alashgaan. He gave pause studying them up close. Masterfully made.

"Who made this?"

"Not me. There is a old forge master, bit of a eccentric but well known and respected. He owed me a bit of a favour, then I heard you completed your training so..."

"I... Thank you, but I'm not-"

"Don't turn down a good thing Pyeth." She chuckled. He slowly nodded. "Now I'll leave you to relax to the sound of Jabba Bat... Bird... Things but if I hear anything about you failing to turn up. I'll be the first to drag you through the door."

---Next Day---

Pyeth brushed down his robes for the tenth time, starring at the Council Chamber doors as though he was on his first date. He wasn't afraid, just plainly nervous.

He would be the first to cross the threshold in the Temple, and that was significant not only to him but the people that would follow after.

He wanted everything to go perfectly, yet his life had been anything but. He inhaled filling his lungs and stepped forward into the chamber beyond. He realised, an angry, Nadira was far scarier than anything the Council might throw at him.

Tiland stood at the back of the council chambers, gazing out the window at the marshlands below. It was so different from Rishii, but familiar in many ways. He had been here before, although it had been long since he had an apprentice with a formal knighting ceremony. It was not something easily accomplished in the past few decades. The lightsaber hilt at his side felt heavy and deeply uncomfortable now that it was out of the box.

He wished he could put it back and leave it, but such was the ancient knighting tradition of the Jedi. Pyeth deserved at least that much. Even more, if he were honest, to be exiled from his home, to be given a chance to return, and to give it up and instead choosing the way of the Jedi.

It was not an easy decision. He wasn't sure he would have been able to make the same decision, were he in Pyeth's shoes.

"So," he said at last, turning back to face the doors at the far end of the room. "Let us begin this first knighting ceremony, shall we? I have prepared a specific blend of tea."

He smiled briefly at that. It was true, blended specially from herbs gathered on Rishii when had been there with Pyeth.

The grin on Elias’ face beamed as Pyeth Raffinki Pyeth Raffinki entered the Council Chambers. He offered the Knight-to-be a gracious bow for the sake of posterity, then pulled the avian in for a friendly embrace. While it was true he hadn’t known Pyeth for long, he was still immensely proud of the young man’s accomplishments and dedication to the Jedi. He’d spoken at length about the Rishii’s escapades with Tiland Kortun Tiland Kortun before agreeing to join in this very special occasion, finding that none were more deserving of being the Coalition’s first Knight than Pyeth.

To be here with him, Grand Master Kortun, and Coren Starchaser Coren Starchaser was an immense honor.

Congratulations, my friend,” Elias said, his hands resting firmly on Pyeth’s shoulders.

"Let us begin this first knighting ceremony, shall we? I have prepared a specific blend of tea."

Elias let out a soft chuckle, turning to the older man with a smile.

An excellent idea, Master Kortun!

Arriving at the Council's Chambers, Mishel offered those there a smile. "I hear congratulations are in order," or at least so she heard someone was to be knighted. Mishel herself had no formal ceremony, really - the fact that she was still serving in the wars was enough back in those days. So, she was quite glad that such ceremonies could be afforded now. "Pyeth, congratulations," offered Mishel, she barely knew them but this was a momentous occasion regardless of how well she knew them.

Tea was being prepared and Mishel opted for a moment to simply gaze out the window at the Marshlands below. Something tugged at Mishel to venture beyond the safety of the Temple. For the moment she quelled such a desire and simply admired the beauty that Dagobah's swamp offered to those who chose to see it. Turning back to those in attendance, Mishel approached one of the Masters there, "don't believe we've had the opportunity to meet, Mishel Kryze."

Tiland she knew by reputation, and moved to offer him a bow of respect, "Master Kortun."

Rhiza stepped into the chamber, she was a relative newcomer to the Rimward Trade League but was trying to make sure she got to know people. To this end, she decided that her and her apprentice should attend the first knighting ceremony they could. It was a time of such honor and tradition that you could learn a lot about the culture around you. She walked in and saw the avian Jedi quickly amongst his peers. Holding her saber to her chest she bowed to him. "Deepest congratulations, Knight Pyeth Raffinki Pyeth Raffinki " she said with sincerity. She had attended a number of ceremonies on Ession in the last few years and this one felt more personal, the number of people were fewer and it felt less like a military decoration than being knighted in the Crusade would.

She also bowed and greeted Tiland Kortun Tiland Kortun , Elias Edo Elias Edo and Mishel Mishel , the other attendees close to the Jedi of the hour. Her apprentice looked over at her master with a look of request, hoping it would be her turn, and Rhiza simply gave her a look that said "soon"

Pyeth looked around, taking in the sight of the Council Chambers. An unfamiliar setting at the heart of an all to familiar environment, speaking of unfamiliar witnessing Tiland Kortun Tiland Kortun with his lightsaber.

His head turned feeling a firm hand landing on his shoulder, "Master Edo, it's excellent to see you."

He couldn't help but trill at Tiland's comment of tea, "A new blend? I look forward to trying it!" He chirped in agreement with Master Elias Edo Elias Edo .

"Much appreciated, Mishel Mishel , Master Rhiza Dural Rhiza Dural , and Eleri. It's awesome to see you all."

Whelp. This was a little overwhelming, he was rarely the centre of attention, at least when it came to positive outcomes. It was nice seeing the familiar and unfamiliar faces of his new flock.

He glanced again at his Master, taking the tea that was offered. The scent gave him pause, he knew these smells. He knew these herbs. One in particular, hailing back to the day they met on the streets of Shimia.

"When did you get these?" He asked, curious and thankful. The answer did not matter, it reminded him of home, and those thoughts weren't of what had been lost, but instead what he had gained.

Tiland grinned beneath his mustache as he handed Pyeth the first cup of tea, before pouring more for the others in the room, and there was a twinkle in his eyes. "Well, I am a herbalist, and while you were busy conversing with Force entities and saving your enemies' lives, I came across some herbs that I simply could not pass up."

He had made a special trip, soon after the issue with the students was resolved, to find the herbs, specifically for this purpose, mixing them with the crisp taste of mint- reflecting the pang of loss, as well as the soothing blend of lavender, reflecting the solace of the Force, including some Rishii berries and some dried ones he had kept from Qi-Ko. Not many of them left, but they had been infused with the Force in their time in the world.

Tiland gestured to the center of the room, "Please, come to the center as everyone drinks the tea. Let us hear Pyeth himself about what happened on Rishii. It is something for us all to meditate upon and lends a great weight to today's ceremony."

Thank you, Master Kortun,” Elias said graciously as he took one of the teacups into his hands.

The warmth it passed into his skin was deeply soothing, but it was the delightful aroma of the herbal blend that truly eased his spirits. Herbalism was an art form that Elias had only recently begun to study. Serving alongside an artist as talented as Tiland Kortun Tiland Kortun was an honor Elias wouldn't soon take for granted.

"Please, come to the center as everyone drinks the tea. Let us hear Pyeth himself about what happened on Rishii. It is something for us all to meditate upon and lends a great weight to today's ceremony."

Elias moved closer to the group, cup in hand and eyes on Pyeth Raffinki Pyeth Raffinki . He’d yet to hear the Rishi’s account of what happened on his homeworld, and while he was eager to learn more about the Knight’s past, Elias could tell already that this story was not without heartache. In that regard, he sympathized with Pyeth. Elias was but a Knight himself when he endured his first real trial by fire.

The Jedi listened intently as he lifted the rim of the cup to his lips, allowing the minty blend to fill his mouth.

Grand Master Tiland gave Pyeth pause. He wondered what the masters would make of his tale; it was an encounter lifted from childhood stories and legends. Scars and a Kyber Crystal were the only physical proof he had. Was anything else needed? Tiland didn't seem to think so, and that was confidence enough.

"Where do I begin?" He asked, taking his first few pours of tea. The familiar tastes of Rishii helped ease his beak, "Master Tiland and I journeyed to Rishii. When we set off, I had hopes of ceasing the exploitation of Rishii's exonium mines by the Lux Astra corporate authority that had established itself in the region after the collapse of the Confederacy.

It wasn't the warm welcome we had hoped for. The nature of my exile bites me on the tail more than a few times. Simply, I killed a divine creature in the defence of a close friend.

Eventually, we receive word of Lux Astra's activity in the polar regions. We went to investigate; discovering that scientists and their escort had been attacked. Master Tiland remained behind to heal the wounded. Meanwhile, I pursued the group and their attacker deeper into the jungle.

It was a Maun'gur. The same divine beast I had slain before. I tried to de-escalate the situation," He paused, considering his next words carefully.

"but my wing was forced when a scientist shot it." Pyeth sighed regretfully, "After that. Something visited me, a great bird without substance. Its wings are as bright and colourful as the great reefs. A presence that touched everything and was far greater than anything natural. Despite that, the pressure I felt wasn't disconcerting. More like a blanket comforting a child."

With everything that was happening, with the Sith, his duties to the Order and its students. Pyeth had scarcely had a moment to rest, and fully internalise all he had seen and heard. "But I digress," He said, "It spoke to me, questioned my judgement. It knew me, my history at least and offered redemption."

Mishel respectfully had taken up a cup of tea and was somewhere between Master Edo and Dural. Tea wasn't really her forte but out of the idea of being polite, she gingerly sipped the cup. Definitely wasn't her thing she decided and simply held onto it as everyone gathered to listen to the young knight. Part of her felt for him having to speak in front of so many, and another part envied him. This was an opportunity not afforded to her when she was training as a young Jedi Knight.

She listened intently as the young Jedi regaled the group with the tale of what had occurred on his homeworld. The knight spoke with confidence and spoke of their time on Riishi, their homeworld. Exiled? Mhmm, they had something in common, Mishel could relate. She too had been exiled from Tygara and knew the pain of it deeply. The Tygaran wondered what the scientists' purpose on Riishi had been but didn't think too deeply about it as she followed Knight Pyeth's story.

The Jedi Master became intrigued at how the creature was perceived as divine and would be eager to learn more about Riishi's lore. The description of what had visited the knight after the confrontation was certainly interesting. She wondered if the creature was something in the Force, a reincarnation perhaps. This was a question to be explored later on, certainly. Looking down at her cup of tea, Mishel simply set it down and away from her person. She gave a small nod of acknowledgment and a smile of encouragement toward the Knight. A sign for them to continue on with their story.

Tiland sipped his tea, listening as Pyeth spoke. He had been there for most of the encounters, but not that climatic one with the creature of light. It had been a mystery to him then and a mystery to him now. Perhaps it might have been the legendary creature from prophecy that he had accidentally referred to. It was hard to tell.

Prophecies had many meanings, some more obvious than others, and could easily refer to more than one moment. Rather than focusing on Pyeth, he turned to study the other Jedi as Pyeth spoke, gauging their responses and reactions.

Elias sipped contentedly while Pyeth Raffinki Pyeth Raffinki recounted the tale, choosing to follow his story through the subtle shifts in the Force rather than focus on the sounds of his voice alone. When he mentioned the spirit, Elias couldn’t help but raise an eyebrow. His disbelief wasn’t aimed at the Knight, but the toward himself; It seemed the Genetians weren’t the only Force-sensitives to encounter such graceful aspects of Ashla. This mighty avian seemed to be for Pyeth what the Hihi-Nui was to Elias: The Great Ray.

The Ray was a deeply spiritual being that graced the children of its planet once, maybe twice in a lifetime. He’d only heard rumors of such a thing, passed down by the spinners in his village when he was a child. To hear now, so many years later, that the Riishi also received the Force this way… it was deeply enlightening.

Elias humbly finished his cup, pausing for a moment to look at the fragments of herbs that rested in the dip at the bottom. The warmth of the tea in his belly seemed to spread throughout his body, and he could only give credence to Ashla. He smiled warmly, watching the Knight before him in earnest. There was so much to learn from him, and Elias was prepared to open his mind and heart.

Pyeth glanced at his reflection in the calm herbal waters, his mind drifting back to that moment. Pondering the decision made and what part it plays in the journey ahead. "I refused," He continued, "it appeared pleasantly surprised by my answer. I suppose it expected me to jump at the opportunity to be with my people again."

"Perhaps I made the wrong choice. I do not want to mislead the council. Rishi remains special to me, but undoing what has been done would have gone against everything we stand for, and I can't bring myself to hurt one of my own. Even if they betrayed me."

Pyeth took a short breath, "After that, she made clear Rishi would always welcome me, even if my tribe would not. I do not know the worth of her promise, but I choose to believe it is in some part connected to the world, like the old stories. Perhaps made manifest by the Force."

"There is not much more I can share with you, Masters. I returned and met with Master Tiland, after recovering from my injuries I did what little I could to assist the wounded."

"I suppose the Jedi have become my tribe."

Tiland interlaced his fingers and nodded slowly, a smile spreading across his face as Pyeth spoke. There was wisdom in those words, an acknowledgment of the possibility of failure. That was one thing that the Jedi needed to know as knights, even beyond their knowledge of the Force or their martial skills, or their ability to act as diplomatic negotiators. The possibility of failure and the humility they could be wrong.

"Wise words and I respect your choice," Tiland said, leveraging himself to his feet, and gesturing to the others. "Rise, Pyeth Raffinki, and stand before us."

He unlatched a box that sat on the ground beside him, pulling out his old lightsaber hilt. Its purple blade flickered to life out of the wooden hilt. The hum echoed through the room as he held the blade upright.
