STRENGTHS
Big Game Hunter: Despite the relatively outdated technology used in its construction, the Cloudburst Rifle was nevertheless designed to contend with the largest and worst creatures Pamarthe has to offer, being potentially capable of felling even the most apex monster in relative short order. Sentient or otherwise.
WEAKNESSES
Cannon Conflict: In addition to being very large, clunky and exceedingly heavy, these rifles possess a sizable recoil that when combined make them rather difficult for the uninitiated to use effectively.
DESCRIPTION
In the years of distant salted past, when the terror that was the Pamarthen Drake still ruled the land, it is said that Cloudburst Rifles were all that stood between the Pamarthen people and complete destruction. The gun that won the sky and drove one of the planet’s vicious apex predators to the brink of supposed extinction.
Or so the stories go.
These days, with the fear of the Drake having faded along with their sightings, Cloudburst Rifles have become something of an obscurity themselves. Now viewed as more of an antique than a survival necessity, gone is the era when every homesteader from the Salt Planes of Speyr Balley to the shores of the Vanishing Sea kept and lovingly maintained one of these venerable rifles, replaced in kind by an increasing reliance on newer and more advanced technology flooding in from the wider galaxy. Reducing them to little more than passing curiosities or family heirlooms, cultural artefacts to be displayed in museums or found rotting away in the ruins of old abandoned holds.
Beyond a few individuals set in their ways, working examples are most often found in the hands of the Stormtalons, whose famed riders are notoriously committed to maintaining and upholding the traditions that helped them claim dominionship over the least hospital regions of the planet. There the rifle’s fearsome sting has been turned on the lesser, yet nonetheless still deadly threat of the Greater Skyeeels that frequently take umbrage at their continued presence, with their pitched aerial duels often becoming the subject of fantastical holodramas.
In terms of technical specifications, the Cloudburst is a magnetically accelerated, 5 shot clip-fed, semi-automatic rifle that shares more than a few passing similarities with the infamous Wookiee Bowcaster. Like the Kashyyykian weapon, the rifle rounds are designed to become charged in an envelope of plasma thanks to the Cloudburst stone used in its construction, granting them the destructive ability to punch clear through the toughened hide of a Greater Skyeel (or that of an armored opponent) with potentially frightening ease.
