Nowhere to Run
"I'll be fiiiine!" the girl protested as Tawrro hovered the speeder in the drop-off line. An impatient noise from the speeder behind them reminded the Wookiee of the hold up he was creating, or at least she hoped it did. Her head jutted forward as she looked up at the brown eyes of her companion who thought himself her guardian. Tawrro was great at keeping her safe. He just wasn't so great as trusting her to be safe. "It's not like we're going off-world, it's just a shopping trip. We'll be in the Tower the whole time."
Tawrro's growling reply was more paternal than usual, causing the girl to roll her eyes in response. "Tawrro, it's Binary. You know her, she's tough, she can handle herself. Aaaaand, so can I."
Daiya frowned at the bark that issued from her guardian's mouth. "That's not nice, she's implanted not 'jacked up,'" the girl said, shaking her head. "Oh my stars, Tawrro. Implants are kind of cool, not scary. They're like blasters, even the bad guys can use them, it doesn't make them bad."
"Look," she urged, showing Tawrro her datapad with a conversation window displayed. She squirmed in her seat, between the conversation and the speeders lined up behind her, this was getting way too awkward. "Binary said she's already there waiting for me, so I'd better go soon."
The great beast sat there for a moment, ignoring the noise from behind them. One of the security guards standing beside the doors of Sakedo Tower was moving toward them now, probably trying to see what the delay was. Finally, Daiya heard a small growl from Tawrro. Her face brightened as she grinned, "So I can go now?" Tawrro nodded, giving her a shooing look with his hand. She let out an excited yelp, and leaned over to give his arm a hug. "Thanks, Tawrro!"
He said something after her as she climbed out of the speeder onto the deck of the unloading zone, but Daiya just tossed her head and threw Tawrro a wave. Of course she would watch her back, when did she not?!
The giddy teen practically flew to the doors of the tower, slowing only long enough to let them open. Inside, the foot traffic was pretty dense, forcing her to slow down even more. The crowd was beginning to back up, waiting at the bank of lifts for more to arrive and accept additional passengers. Luckily for her, the crowd was mostly adults, who didn't know how to use their personal space anymore.
Daiya ducked and twisted to get through, weaving her way up toward the front of the line. Not so close that people might get upset, just close enough that she'd be in one of the next wave of cars. Floor 301, Floor 301. That was her destination. The girl bounced with excitement, hardly able to contain herself. This was the first time she'd gotten to hang out with one of the incredible operatives from Darkwire, and Binary was one of the most a-mazing.
Finally, more lifts began arriving and bit by bit, the line ahead of her whittled down until it was her turn. From the moment she stepped on the lift until she got off onto Floor 301, along with most others left in the crowd, Daiya's head was a whirl of emotion. The joy was practically oozing off her, leaving a trail of happiness as the girl dashed out into the dazzling shop-a-palooza known as The 301, Seven Corners' shining beacon of goodness among the muck.
Spotting the Darkwire woman at last, Daiya rushed over to her. The girl beamed at the older woman, looking at her outfit with admiration. "Oh my stars, Binary, you look incredible. Where did you get those clothes, someplace here? You'll have to show me. Oh, thanks for coming out with me, this is going to be so much fun!"
