It grew quickly from a handful of private laboratories for medical and biological research to over a hundred such facilities across the planet, producing products ranging from medical supplies and routine physician lab services to chemistry and drug manufacturing. From there, interest in molecular biology and nanotechnology lead to new ventures that paved the way for progressively better prosthetics that were increasingly more [/SIZE]efficient[SIZE=10.5pt] and realistic.[/SIZE]
[SIZE=10.5pt]By C.Y. 2160, business focus was expanded to the defense contracting market, which was at the time dominated by the favoured giants Olanji/Charubah Industries and the Royal Armaments Guild of Charubah. A clever business strategy that got Paragon's collective foot in the door was the development of adrenal stim and first aid systems that were designed to be integrated into a suit of battle armour. They also expanded into the development of armoured vehicles of war, such as tanks and troop transports. The corporation split into two focussed subdivisions, Paragon Biotech and Paragon Munitions with the central mother corporation, Paragon Enterprises Inc., acting as overarching administrator of the entire enterprise. Formal subsidiaries had been intentionally avoided due to the legal complications of merger and corporate acquisition law in the Hapes Consortium. For the next millennium or so, the company happily competed with the Royal Armaments Guild, most notably in the production of ballistic ordinance used in Royal navy warships and fighters such as concussion missiles and proton torpedoes. Both the military and civilian small-arms and armour markets were even more competitive with smaller companies involved, but were also respectably profitable.
C.Y. 3951 marked the first time Paragon Enterprises dabbled in shipbuilding. While possessing nowhere near the resources of its superior competitor, Olanji/Charubah, Paragon contributed to the Royal Navy with a new next-generation warship called the Nova-Class battle Cruiser. Further, in C.Y. 3980, Separatist refugees managed to find their way into the difficult territory of the isolated Hapes Cluster at the end of the Clone Wars. The interlopers were captured and held pending the Queen's decision on their fate when ultimately they were granted asylum on the stipulation that they provide their knowledge of foreign military technology to the Consortium's Defense contractors. Olanji/Charubah developed the Miy'til Starfighter and Paragon developed the Hetrinar Assault Bombers. In C.Y. 4869, Ducha Anastasia Zhan V of Gallinore authorised the use of public domain designs for warships, Olanji/Chrubah's patents having long expired on the iconic Battle Dragon design of the Hapan Royal Navy. Warship competition had begun with constant requests for Royal contracts from both companies.
By C.Y. 3999, Paragon had developed flash-cloned prosthesis, the most realistic replacement body parts available. While the Crown had long handled public healthcare for all Hapan Subjects with the Universal Healthcare Decree of C.Y. 2641 that struck down the previously dominant insurance market, no revision nor amendment of the law ever covered prosthesis beyond mechanical ones or the reattachment of existing severed limbs. This meant that Paragon's new medical miracle was virtually unavailable to the common person, with the expense involved in the flash-cloning and intricate tissue grafting surgery. It would be over 500 years before newer technologies sufficiently reduced the expense to make the still-uncovered prosthesis more affordable without financing that rivaled that of a new speeder or starship.
Today, Paragon continues steadily innovating new concepts and designs. A recent Naval development is the new Type D 505 Wyvern, a successor to the dated Battle Dragon and the Type M 808 Terminus Starfighter, a next generation aerospace superiority interceptor. Paragon tends to be very secretive of its most cutting edge technologies and prosecutes industrial espionage ruthlessly. In some cases, Paragon Security has been known to kill moles and other enemy interlopers in lieu of seizure, which has lead to controversies historically. It is currently owned by Ducha Relina Zhan of Gallinore by inheritance from her late mother.
