Past, present and future

Sanya Val Lerium

Neutral, Queen of Her people, Neko
Corellia

The ramp lowered onto the concrete landing pad as a feeling of some kind filled her. She'd not been here since the day she left. Since the day her mother was killed in the streets. That was a long time ago. The murderer's would be out of prison now. A part of her wished their lives had been a nightmare since that day. Another wished they had learnt a lesson and began to make other lives better. Today wasn't about dwelling on them though. It was to visit her mothers gave for the first time. It was hard and took up till now to work up the courage. It was also a good chance for her go bond with her padawan. Let him know a little of her past. With the bucay of flowers in her hand she made her way into the spaceport to one of the café's to wait.

Maxumus had landed on Corellia about 10 minutes after his master's arrival. He hopped out of his X-Wing, leaving the landing pad promptly. This was his homeworld, the place he'd been born, the place he'd been taken from by the Jedi. In the back of his mind he wondered whether his mother and father were still on the planet, however these were thoughts for another time. He and his master had things to do today, so he made his way to the meetpoint, which by now she should be at.

She bared the look of sadness and in some ways regret. In all this time she had never visited her mothers grave. Now, now nothing can tie her back. The republic has gone, the black rose no longer dictating her every move and her bountie. Well the mandos no longer seem to care about their injustice while pinning the blame.

But visiting her mother wasn't the only thing she regretted. In recent events Sanya had put maxumus in a position no master should put their padawan in. To see such side of her was shameful. Her eyes seemed focused on the smallest part of a blue flower till she zoned out detaching from everything around her. A small sigh would escape her lips. Time seemed slow to her lately. More so now there was a lot to think about and work out.

Even in her state of mind she could still hear the footsteps of her padawan. A walk that became familiar. Every few steps the back of his heal would scuff the floor in such way you'd not realize it yourself. "Hey." Her voice was quieter than usual. "Glad you haven't ran away. Again I'm sorry maxumus. I shouldn't have gone so far to prove a point... But hopefully you understand now what it can do to a person even as well trained as I am. The dark side is powerful I'll not lie. Using it how ever, you sacrifice who you are in the process. You lose grasp of everything you stand for in becoming a mindless monster." She had no right to speak those words and she knew it herself.

"Anyway what's in the past is in the past. Dwelling on mistakes to long won't help make up for them. I would like to go visit a place first where as I promised on sekalus, would tell you about me and how I got to where I am now. After I'll be teaching you some things. First we will start with training your saber skills in nimen to get you warmed up. Then I will teach you the basic of force blast. Very simple ability but hard to master. If we have time I'll let you pick a topic after and work on it. That sound good with you?"

He reached his master's location promptly, and he'd seen, even from a distance, her face being contorted by regret. The events that had taken place before today were in her mind as much as they were in his, and the added responsibility he felt for his master couldn't be understated. The half of her that had appeared to him in ghost form still confused him, though he knew that the force worked in mysterious ways.

"Sounds good master, lead the way." He replied, trying to sound as happy as possible. His thoughts wondered whether Sanya enjoyed his company, or if he were more of a hindrance than anything else. A shadow of doubt was cast upon him, like the one the Sith had put in his mind. He knew his master was right in her description of the dark side, but that didn't make it any easier to bare.

Forcing a smile she stood up pushing the seat with the back of her legs only to make the annoying noise of the chair scraping across the floor. "Well then my padawan let's go." She said leading the way out the space port. It wasn't so busy compared to many in the core worlds. Moving about was easy. Then again this was the one closest to the slums that people tried to avoid. "Seems we share this world as our birth place. Although I remember some of my childhood here. Not many Jedi born here can say that. I came from a rough area here. Crime seemed normal and law overlooked it often. I was no saint as a kid. Had to steal so me and my mom could get by each week. Normally bits of food and credits where we could. But it was life. I could use the force by six that helped us get by better. Even though we did that nothing stopped us helping others. My mom had learnt many things over her life and she was able to perform a lot of first aid and diagnose what she could. The right medication was for people better off so instead she made some remedies to help with common things. One of them been a strong painkiller using plants from all over. She taught me as much as she could so I could go on to do the same when I got older."

As Sanya told a part of her story they had made it to the edge of the slums. The smell of refuse gave a pungent smell that burned her nose as she breathed in. This was the first time she noticed the actual smell. When she was young Sanya was used to it so never noticed it. "I am proud to have called her my mom. Honestly I miss her. I wonder every now and again what life I'd have had if she was still here. Maybe I'd have never fallen in love with the woman who I call my wife. Maybe I'd have never left the world and still be one of these people. Think you'd have liked her. Always so happy and looked at the bright picture. Do you remember anything before the Jedi from your childhood?"

Maxumus listened, and as his master told him of her youth, his mind wondered back to his own roots. That didn't make her question any less painful for him to answer.

"I remember little, but enough for the memories to bring me comfort. My family wasn't rich by any means, but we made do with our amount. I spent the majority of my life on this planet, working odd jobs so I could afford any luxury that I happened to want. When the Jedi found me, I refused to go with them at first, but after some thought I decided it was best. I'd known about my force sensitivity since I was young, and had hidden it as best I could. Funny, I remember what my life was like in detail, yet I barely remember those in it."

[doc]Sanya looked at him. She understood the last part she can barely remember her mom's face or the sound of her voice. She just remembers her voice always gave her comfort and seeing her made Sanya feel happy. “But you still remember them to a level. Who they were to you and what they were like. It's those people who made an impact in your life. Those people who deserve to be remembered. Doesn't matter if they were good or bad. The good people you strive to be like and the bad are the ones you avoid becoming. Guess that's where I faltered.”

They had reached the graveyard. Headstones made of marble and looked like families broke their back to appreciate their loved ones one last time. Some even had a mini holo projector with an image of who the liked like. But her mother's gave was nothing like that. “Come on this way.” She said as it all started to sink in. It took a little while but Sanya had found it. The headstone was made of cheap stone a lot of it worn away to the elements. The writing barely visible. Just the name Celty Val Lerium was able to be made out.

Sanya sat herself at the edge crossing her legs and her hands on her knees. “Sit maxumus.” She said giving the impression they'd be here for a few moments. Her eyes shut focusing on the force. Slowly the headstone would become slightly thinner and more defined the writing also pushed in more becoming more visible. But she didn't stop there. Big stones would also push up from the ground around her mom's grave to border it off from the others. “That will do for now. I'll have to Make sure to replace the headstone someday. But I'm glad whoever did the ceremony did one thing.” She was making the comment on a crystal her mom was buried with. “My mom had two crystals both the same. I had the other but mom still has the other. Cam looks after mine now. I didn't wanna risk it been lost or taken and she's much better at keeping things safe.”

Maxumus sat my his master, and watched as she rebuilt some of the headstone. In many ways he was lucky, not knowing the fate of his parents or those he cared for, though that didn't mean he wasn't content with that option. If he could, he'd track his family down, but he had other duties to attend to.

"Must be nice to have something to remember her by. I'm sure she's watching over you through the force, that's what the code tells us anyway. There is no death, there is the force." Maxumus responded, not wishing to pry at his master's mind just yet.

She stood up and brushed herself down with a faint smile. "That's one interpretation of the code but I know she is. Well get to that later and yes I guess it is. Reminders are tricky things. Do you remember what you lost or what they where? Both I guess." She looked around the field of headstones. All of them marking a life that once was but no more. It's sad in a way. But life can't exist without death. Once more Sanya would walk. She knew a place equally as quiet. "The day I was last on this world was the day my mom died. She died protecting me now I feel like I didn't deserve it. It was a normal day stealing but I tried my luck and got caught by one of the gangs. They beat me in public and about to kill me right there on the street for everyone to see. My mom got there in time and sacrificed her self. The shock caused me to send a blast out. Two of the gang members died from how they impacted and others ran with minor injuries. The law enforcement showed up not long after. They where going to put me in care so I ran. Got off world. I got by making small credits from the remidies and medical stuff my mom knew. I also picked up more about it at every world. I did what I could to help."

It took a while and the sun almost setting. The sky light up orange with bits of red. It was a sight that was nice to see from time to time. "We'll go through the forms first and move onto teaching you something new." Sanya unclipped a single saber from her side and ignited it. It felt strange this time. Almost quite. That's right the souls once trapped had been used. She shook her head and got in stance. "One." She said swinging the saber down. "two." The saber raised up above her head horizontally. "Three." The saber would then come to her left side vertical. "Four." Her left elbow would move up dropping the saber horizontal to the right. She'd repeat the steps over and over till they had become synched.

Maxumus stood with his master, and watched her movements the first few times. He then unclipped his own saber and ignited it. The orange blade was calming to look at, but somewhat reminded him of his master's meltdown. Perhaps because he'd used that hilt to knock her unconscious, made the blade feel as if it had messed up somehow. Nevertheless, Maxumus followed his master's movements, slicing his saber as she did, syncing with her until the two of them were little more than a blur of colour.

Once they had synched sanya would move in front of maxumus. "Keep going." She said looking at his foot work and how he flowed into each movement. "Bend your knees more and widen them appart. Do that in battle you risk becoming off balance." She was been kind for now since this was just for a warm up. "Breath in on your movements breath out on your strike." Slowly she was critiquing him. "There is no emotion?" She said to now make him think about two different things.

She can remember her training. It was always in sessions with other students. Her masters never stayed around for long but it was in the midst of war. Mentors where scarse so it was done that way. Now though it was near non existent. The sessions where always fun and practical. Students trained against students. It was funny she often had the same sparing partner. Over time she had gotten a crush on the girl. Sanya did act on it but turned down. Though they did spend that night together. Even though it wasn't the answer she wanted it was still a happy memory of that time.

Maxumus listened to what his master said, widening his stance and controlling his breathing more. He couldn't tell if she was testing him with that question or not, but he answered anyway. "There is no emotion, there is peace." He said, remembering what happened when his master embraced her emotions.

She watched as his stance and fluent movement didn't falter. She gave him a smile and a nod. "Good. You can stop now." She took a deep breath and got into a stance but relaxed. "So I'm going to teach you the fundamentals of force blast. The ability I use them most. It can be used as a tool to aid you in a fight or be used as a devastating blow. The more you are able to power in to the blast the more damage it does. Now I'll only give you the stepping stones. It's up to you to work and train in it." She said informing him. "I want you to force push me the best you can in a straight line. Don't worry I can take it." She lent forward slightly and bent her knees. Her tail would flick about waiting for the push.

Maxumus deactivated his sabers and clipped them to his belt. He felt slightly worried that he'd hurt his master, but he knew that she'd been through far worse than a padawan using the force to move her backwards. He reached out with the force, took a deep breath in, closed his eyes. For a moment he was still, before pushing his hand, and by extension the force, towards his master. He'd put all his effort into it, though it still wouldn't be the most powerful force push ever felt.

Sanya felt the push and his worry. As she went backwards her feet would slide against the floor, her tail moved about keeping her balance and she struggled to remain leaning forward. After she stopped sanya walked back to the same spot. "You can do better. Relax and remove all emotion from your mind. It's holding you back." She got back into the same position. Maxumus had it in him and Sanya knew he wasn't holding back on purpose. "Push me back twice as far this time. Now again." Her voice was serious like the one of a teacher instructing. It wasn't nasty nor mellow just in the middle.

Maxumus sighed, toke his position in front of his master, and for a moment did nothing. He emptied himself of feeling, of emotion, the way a Jedi should. He felt calm, at one with himself, an odd feeling to be sure. With a long, deep breath, he pushed forward, this time not worrying for his master's safety. He knew she could take it, she wouldn't of asked him to do it if she couldn't.

This time his push was a lot better. As she slid backwards she couldn't hold her body forwards. Digging her heel into the ground she used her flexibility to flip backwards in a reverse handstand like fashion. Once she came to a stop and was stable she had a smirk on her face. "Much better. Well done." As she walked back to maxumus she picked up a stone that would fit in her hand. With a claw she put an x on two sides. "Here. X's to the palms of your hands." She said levitating the stone towards him. "No need to hold it." She would keep it steady in front of him. "Now like a push this is more focused. I want you to move that energy outside surrounding the stone. With practice you should see the energy focus into a ball. The longer you push energy the more powerful it is. In time you will take less time to make one powerful. The ones I can do used to take me about a minute to get the power behind it, now it takes a second." She said still with the smile and rush. "Empty your mind then begun when ready."
