Path less travelled [Training thread]

Yuroic was now fully endorsed into the Jedi way. He had been training with them for awhile now, his reading and writing was now at a level one would expect from his age. His combat was becoming more competitive with some of the other, higher up Padawans, as he viewed them. The Force connection he had was much stronger than when he first joined the Order. He could command a lot more in the Force and he was starting to feel proud. He was living up to the standard he had set himself as the Grand Master's Padawan. He even had his lightsabers now, interlocking hilt design, a very unique choice and something he was still coming to grips with.

He had heard that a former Grand Master Jedi, was seeking to integrate with the students of the Order. Yuroic was interested to see how this Jedi would differ from the only Jedi he had met in person at that level. He was learning more in combat, he wanted to be able to fight the Sith and becoming stronger in the Force just wasn't cutting it for Yuroic. He needed to be able to defeat them in combat, he needed to be perfect in his moves. The weight of defeats and loses had taken a heavy toil on Yuroic, he was still on a path of recovery from stepping so close to darkness. Something his Master saw in him, he had even killed a man out of anger. He felt himself slipping and he didn't care at the time, he needed results and anger was giving him them.

However, he had been steered away from that path for the near future. He was still recovering from the dark taint but he was always loyal to the Jedi, no question about that. These people were his family, he needed them. Yuroic removed his cloak and unclipped his lightsabers, igniting them in a safety mode, he started practising his Form VI technique. Niman was very new to him but he felt that the dual wielding edge he had worked better than it did with Djem So or even Shien.

Josh was no exception when it came to slipping... He had spent so many years after his indoctrination at the age of five keeping the dark side, his angry side, at bay. But the fact was... Everyone had a limit. They were human... They were people. Not tools or weapons. They were people with thoughts and feelings and emotions. The Jedi of old wanted them to shed their emotions, acted as though it were a weakness... But in the end, the fact was... It was part of them. It wasn't something they could just keep away. No... Instead it became about controlling those emotions, and channeling them to be a sword and shield for others. And Josh was no exception indeed... But he'd done a damn good job of it for some time. Of course, he'd almost slipped here and there... But he'd been able to overcome it, and he hoped his experience could help him show others not to fear it.

He had been asked by Arisa to give a practice session, a spar, with her Padawan in the Makashi form, and Josh was happy to oblige. She had filled him in on bits and pieces, but he was curious about what this Padawan was all about, one who'd been to the brink as he had so early in his career. Perhaps he could help in more than just forms... But who knows?

Stepping into the chambers on Voss, he took a gentle breath as he opened his eyes... Looking around to see if who he was to instruct had arrived.

Feeling someone with a very strong connection to the Force, Yuroic looked over to the man he assumed was Master DragonsFlame. He approached with held curiosity. He had read a little on the man's background but not a lot, he didn't want to seem overly keen. Extending his hand, he gave a respectable bow of his head. Greetings Master DragonsFlame, I am Yuroic, Master Yune's Padawan. He gave a small smile.

The Jedi Master was known to be an expert in Makashi, a Form that was great for lightsaber versus lightsaber combat. Something with a higher Sith presence was a necessary skill to attain. However, it would be also crucial for perfecting Niman, a Form using all other Form techniques in one. It gave him adaptability which he needed for his slightly unique lightsabers and would be perfect for fighting Sith. Who mostly use Form V from his experience.

He unclipped his interlocking hilt, in its saberstaff form and ignited the two blades. Twirling the blades around he studied the Jedi carefully. Did you wish to spar first? Or go through the Form to begin with Master? Yuroic asked with interest, wondering if the Master wanted to see if his saber skills first and work off that or start with the training.

(Apologies for the delay, had a muse lapse for a little while)

He didn't recognize the young man, Arisa hadn't exactly been specific on his description, but as he had asked about training, it was pretty obvious that this was the Padawan that had been discussed. He would nod as the man would approach and extend his hand. Josh would extend his own and shake his hand. "A pleasure to meet you, Padawan Yuroic. Grandmaster Yune has spoken highly of you" He would respond.

It seemed that the Padawan was eager to begin training, and he couldn't blame him, really. Makashi was always one of the funner forms for him. "That depends" He would admit as he would tilt his head lightly toward the Padawan's question. "What amount of knowledge of the Makashi form do you possess? I can show you the movements, yes, but if you already know them, then you would far more benefit by putting them to action. The form is primarily for blade to blade combat, and is personally one of my favorites. You will get the most experience out of this by going blade to blade with someone who can press you into developing your skills on the go."

He waited then, for his answer. His expression was stoic, and yet held a tint of curiosity to it...

Yuroic felt his cheeks as he heard that his Master had spoken highly of him. He felt sure that there were other Padawans better and stronger than himself. Yuroic did not inform Master DragonsFlame of his thoughts on the fact that he was not that skilled, accepting the compliment for what it was. Moving back slightly, Yuroic thought over the skills that he had learnt in Makashi. There wasn't much, he had known it was combat for blade against blade but there was little else that he knew.

I know a little but only due to the fact I am training in Niman, so I have learnt a little in all of the Lightsaber Forms. However, outside the basics I do not know much more. I am not likely a very skilled fighter in it. Yuroic was honest in his comment. There as little point in stating how amazing he was in the Form if he was then defeated in a few moves by the Master, who was likely very well trained in it. Yuroic waited patiently to see how they would progress the training.

Josh knew that if Arisa Yune had spoken highly of a Padawan, they would be a treat indeed to teach. Noting the heat that seemed to radiate from the Padawan's cheeks at his praise, he chuckled lightly. Well, at least this one seemed calm and humble, at least... Good, good qualities to have. Though a bit of confidence didn't hurt either. He did have his own set of confidence, after all... Some called it arrogance, but he knew his abilities, and he knew what he could handle, and had confidence in them. It helped alleviate his worries, confidence did... Helped him focus more on the here and now and what was happening right in front of him. That arrogance people spoke of him having, it was attainable... But anything can be "too much", anything. Or, just about anyway.

"Then it sounds like practice may be your best bet" He would respond, nodding his head in turn. "Practice makes perfect... But practicing Makashi with someone who knows Makashi well is even more useful. So we'll do that.

Do you happen to have a blade of your own? Normally I know this, with my own pupils, but as you are Grandmaster Yune's, obviously I wouldn't know."
