STRENGTHS
  • Capacity: The Horizon 2 can carry a great deal of cargo, both inside its container modules and within its secured cargo bay.
  • Armed Enough: The Horizon 2 maintains a relatively formidable complement of point defense autocannons, turbolasers, and missile tubes in order to fend off raiders and other potential threats.
WEAKNESSES
  • Not a Combat Ship: Despite its inclusion of offensive anti-capital ship weaponry, the Horizon is not built for extended combat, nor for engagements with larger and better-equipped vessels.
  • Limited Armor: To accommodate the space needed to carry so much cargo, the Horizon's armor plating is extremely lacking. If the cruiser's shields are lost, it will not stand a chance to most artillery fire.
DESCRIPTION
Patterned and modified from the hull of one of PhoenixDrive’s earliest ventures into the shipbuilding industry, the Horizon 2 represents a dedicated cargo vessel suited toward fending for itself rather than relying on convoy escorts. In adopting this mission profile, the PDC-50 makes notable use of a suite of turbolasers, missile launch tubes, and defensive autocannon turrets. While this weapon complement is often not effective in outright destroying an attacking vessel, practice has shown it to be sufficient in deterring most initial aggression, buying time for the Horizon to begin a retreat and spool up its hyperdrive.

Of course, the defining characteristic of the Horizon 2-class remains its capacity to ferry cargo from place to place, the vessel being equipped to carry 12 large cargo containers within a hollowed section of its spine. Openings into the bay are located on both the port and starboard surfaces, allowing for container modules to quickly be unloaded or swapped during hauls.

A defining vessel in PhoenixDrive’s catalog, ships of the Horizon-class have been sighted running back and forth between the company’s shipyards and other friendly ports, beacons of resilience defiant to the scourge of piracy and raiding.
