Description:
PharmaTech saw opportunity in the area of DNA profiling and embarked on creating a portable method of providing it. Using Identiprob technology, they expanded on it to include the use of saliva, hair, dermis, and other bodily fluids for an ease in providing DNA profiling for a variety of uses.
DNA profiling (also called DNA fingerprinting, DNA testing, or DNA typing) is a forensic technique used to identify individuals by characteristics of their DNA. A DNA profile is a small set of DNA variations that is very likely to be different in all unrelated individuals, thereby being as unique to individuals as are fingerprints.
DNA profiling is used in, for example, parentage testing and criminal investigation, to identify a person or to place a person at a crime scene, techniques which are now employed galactic wide in forensic science to facilitate detective work and help clarify paternity and immigration disputes. DNA fingerprinting has also been widely used in the study of xenobiology for fauna and flora populations and has revolutionized the field of xenozoology.
Although 99.9% of the galactic populace DNA sequences are the same in every species, enough of the DNA is different that it is possible to distinguish one individual from another regardless of species, unless they are monozygotic ("identical") twins.
As such, PharmaTech provides a small EMP proof portable kit to allow the ease of DNA profiling, with results provided within a short amount of time. At nine weeks, paternity tests can be done within fifteen minutes of both maternal and paternal samples being provided, while general DNA profiling coding can be done as quick as fifteen minutes.
Technology will continue to advance, and PharmaTech believes that they can cut down the time for any future projects with more research and development.
Caution is advised, that if the biological sample is tampered with, results may be inconclusive. Ammonia like substances will ruin any method of pulling any DNA sequencing materials.
