Power-Assisted Servos - Constructed of Alusteel and Doonium (materials normally utilized in the production of Starship armor); the Phase I Canoness Battle Armor is heavier than most, making it nearly impossible for the average individual to move the armor on their own without assistance. A series of Power-Assisted Servos - located throughout the armor - ensure that the operator is capable of moving the armor and functioning on and off the field of battle.
Augmented Strength - A byproduct of the Power-Assisted Servos; the wearers of Canoness Armor experience a slight increase in their own strength.
Backpack - Featuring ammunition cartridges that hold a variety of munitions for various weapons; it can also be reconfigured for the mission at hand - from oxygen tanks to bacta dispensers, or additional long-range communication equipment. It usually carries explosives, additional munitions, medical equipment, and rations or additional supplies to aid in surviving various operational theaters.
Sealed Against Biological and Chemical Attacks - A series of filtration systems and seals within the helmet and throughout the armor seal the wearer off from both chemical and biological attacks. However; this does not permit the individual to operate in hazardous environments that lack an appropriate environment for the operator.
Airtight - Canoness Armor is capable of being sealed, permitting the wearer to operate in Space, Underwater or Toxic environments for up to 20 minutes. This duration can be increased by reconfiguring the Backpack to carry oxygen tanks; providing up to an hour to operate in those hazardous environments.
Alusteel Tomb - Phase I Canoness Battle Armor lacks an effective countermeasure against EMP or Ion based weaponry; to this end, the Power-Assisted Servos are vulnerable to these weapons. What little protection it does have is not enough to otherwise prevent the servos from shutting down if directly affected by such weaponry - meaning that the armor itself becomes all but immovable by the operator inside, leaving them trapped within the armor and an easier target for an enemy.
Heavy Arms - The materials utilized in the construction of the armor are those often utilize in the construction of Starship Armor; thus the Phase I Canoness Battle Armor is more than capable of withstanding small arms fire (in terms of slug throwers) or low to medium yield blaster bolts. However, the armor is not impervious to damage, and high yield blaster bolts or larger caliber slugthrowers can breach the armor.
Slow Burn - While capable of withstanding slashes or minor strikes from a lightsaber, the armor none-the-less is not impervious to these weapons. While it may take longer, a lightsaber will still cut through the armor with successive strikes or as seen by Qui-Gon utilizing his lightsaber to melt through blast doors.
Heavy - Phase I Canoness Battle Armor is notoriously heavy and is not suggested for use in operational theaters involving mud, sand, bogs or other similar geographical features as the armor can rapidly sink and become immobile. In other cases, the armor can sink completely, causing the operator to drown or suffocate.
Bad Vibrations - Lacking any kind of internal dampening materials, a blast from a Sonic based weapon is amplified within the armor.
With the heart of the Confederacy struck at by Bounty Hunters in a bid to kidnap a member of the Confederate Viceroyalty leaving Golbah City burning and its civilians injured; the High Marshal of the Capital Armada saw the need for a force that could be allocated to protect the Viceroyalty more directly - thus the Erinyes were organized.
Their armor, the Phase I Canoness Battle Armor - was developed to provide the newly formed unit a means to ensure that they were more than capable of carrying out their charged duty of ensuring the safety of the Viceroyalty and important individuals of the Confederacy, in a myriad of environments and conditions. The armor itself is produced using the same materials often found in the armor that lines starship and starfighter hulls; this production design ensures that it is more than capable of withstanding small arms fire and low yield blaster bolts - with members of the Erinyes trained to utilize their suits as a means to further shield those under their charge. However, the design and production utilizing materials often used in starship production came at a cost, in that the armor itself is bulky and heavy. In an attempt to somewhat mitigate the weight of the armor - and thus make it easier for the wearer to move in - a series of Power-Assisted Servos were installed at key points. Though these systems are often not shielded against Ion or EMP based weaponry, and if struck, the result would be a suit of nearly immovable armor. The armor also lacks an internal means to mitigate the damage caused by Sonic weapons and seemingly enhances the effects of those weapons.
Even with the armor being constructed by heavier metals, it is still not impervious to lightsabers - rather, it merely takes additional strikes against the armor to wear down its integrity, or an individual wielding a lightsaber could plunge the weapon into the armor, effectively melting it (akin to Qui-Gon melting through the blast doors in Episode I). Additionally, the heavier metals and the weight of the armor make it all but useless in terrains such as mud, sand and other loose or soft surfaces. In one instance of field testing, the armor sunk into a bog.
That is not to say though that there are not strengths to the armor. For instance, it is capable of being pressurized, allowing the wearer to withstand toxic atmospheres or the vacuum of space for up to twenty minutes; with a total operating time of one hour, provided the suit's backpack is reconfigured to carry oxygen tanks. Likewise, the armor's air filtration and oxygen supply system within the helmet ensure that the suit is fully sealed against Chemical and Biological attacks; permitting the wearer to operate under more hostile conditions. However, the greatest strength of the armor comes from its unassuming backpack - which is designed to emulate those utilized by the Clone Commandos during the Clone Wars. Depending on the mission specifics at hand, the backpack can be reconfigured as needed to fulfill a mission; or in its standard configuration - utilize to carry additional munitions, explosives, and rations.
