So, I'm at the Jakku Temple on my own, it's weird. Not that I am here without Father, but that there's a feeling of sorrow, a downtrodden, morose pain. What is going on?

That was all the Jedi Knight could think about as he went to find Lossa Aureus , or Ryana mina to see if they knew what was going on. There Droid and personnel who were too busy to talk to him. This was bringing a huge “ping” in his head.

The archives was his new destination, he could get on the holonet. Father was not answering his comm-link and that meant he was in the middle of a mission. Reaching a panel, Connel became confused, nothing was getting out? HNN was running “evacuation” news and routes. Who was being evac’ed?

Then the name came up…

… Coruscant…

Connel didn't have the connection to the planet like his father did( Caltin was born there) but he knew the significance and appreciated the need to get going. Father's “office” was where he would find Father's chart and the last thing. Connel was “okay” but there was one glaring problem. He will not pick up a Lightsaber, it was fear and was holding him back until the Jedi Knight found he was picking up,

A Combat Shield.

It will do. One may wonder what the capabilities are? Wait and see.

I have a fight to get to. I hope I'm not too late, I failed enough people as it is.

Running out of the room, Connel headed towards the landing bays.

Katarine walked down the ramp of the ship and immediately winced at the dessert heat. She was not a fan of hot weather. She was already rethinking this trip but after Coruscant she figured she needed the time in the hallowed halls.

She had not expected to see Connel here. When he had been attacked she had visited him of course but then cases piled up and she was taken away. She felt a blush rush to her cheeks but figured it could be the heat.

“Whoa, slow down Tiger. Where do you think you are going in such a hurry?”


She glanced around the platform and frowned.

“Where is Buster?”

"I thought I was the Tiger." Jonyna whined, as she walked onto the platform herself. She had only just arrived at the Jakku enclave as a moment of reprieve. Coruscant had been...brutal. Normally, she'd return home, but Valery Noble had told her she needed to stay on standby for...something.

Valery had been very vague on what that is, and that put Jonyna on edge. A Shadow mission? Something to do with the Temple on Cathar? All Valery's vagueness did was mess with her head. Val was gonna be visiting anyways, so maybe she could ask her here.

Either way, she smiled at the familiar faces.

"Hey, you're the guy from the kitchen, yeah? Nice shield."

Whoah!

Maybe he was so set on getting to his ship, to Coruscant, to the fight, that he did not pay attention to his senses. Either way, Connel indeed missed Kat by an inch, a cartwheel saved himself from embarrassment.

Huh? I'm getting out of here to Coruscant! The planet's getting sacked. They need help!

Buster? He's safe. I'll worry about him when the fight is over. Now I need to go. Wait? You didn't know about? HI Jonyna.

Katarine felt comprehension dawn as she saw his alarmed thinking.

"Connel... calm down. You are a little behind... Coruscant is over. The planet has been evacuated... the fight is... done."

Of course there was still uncertainty about what this meant for the capital but there was nothing else they could do. She reached a hand up and placed it on his shoulder, hopping it might calm him a little.

"It's nice to see you again Jonyna." She smiled at the Cathar.

He missed it. They lost Tython, they lost Coruscant. It just became real. What else are they going to lose? Nothing! That's what! Yeah, he was feeling the loss, and maybe it was the implants and this new feeling and outlook thanks to all of the cybernetics, but Connel was not the awkward kid he used to be. He wanted to get the job done.

Then let's get everyone together and come up with a counter plan. The Jedi always get knocked down, but we get up.

Pulling the shield off his back, Connel showed it off to the Cathar.

Katarine turned away from the conversation suddenly and stared off to the side. It was difficult to think about the young man floating there, his body broken and his parents in shock. She had honed in on their grief, standing there as a complete stranger but being drawn all the same. It wasn’t shame that made this memory difficult though. Sure she was embarrassed but it was just.. haunting.. to have seen Connel that way.

Luckily they were now getting a demonstration of his new shield and Katarine could focus on that.

“Spiffy new toy you got there.”

She grinned and knew Jonyna would be impressed too.

“Don’t worry. The Jedi always come back. We are just waiting for word from the Council so we know our next steps. Right now is the time for patience. “

The thought of having new body parts wasn't a new one for Jonyna. She thought back to Giran, and his hand. But, Jonyna was ever the optimist.

"Far out." Jonyna snickered, looking to Katarine Ryiah in a 'god we're old' kinda way. "You think you're gonna be using that going forward? I got some bad experiences with throwing weapons. My son lost his saber that way. Then again, he Did try and throw it at Domina Prime..."

He understood what she was saying, but this was easier said than done. They lost the birthplace of the Jedi Order, planet near and dear to father, they evacuate Coruscant, home to the iconic Jedi Temple. Home to billions. This nervous energy was driving the young Jedi
Knight nuts.

Fine, but I feel like we're failing the galaxy. I've already failed enough.

All this talk of “failure”, there was something deep there.

I can't pick up a lightsaber, I WON'T pick one up.

A nervous tick as Connel put his shield back.

The thought terrified him.

Katarine almost did a double take. She hadn’t realized Jonyna had a son. Did every Jedi have a family these days? Kat yearned for one of her own but wasn’t ever certain it was the best path.

“I am sorry to hear that. I didn’t even know you had kids. I’m really out of the Jedi loop.”

“I can't pick up a lightsaber, I WON'T pick one up.”

Katarine was surprised to hear the hurt in his voice. She wondered if this had anything to do with his recent injuries. She didn’t know the full story. Of course she had read the case file but it wasn’t the same as hearing it from the source.

“Hey..”

She reached a hand out to his shoulder and gave it a gentle squeeze.

“We haven’t failed yet. You only fail when you give up.”

She tried to smile at him and realized she was doing that Jedi master thing where they talk in lessons and act all calm and collected. Embarrassing.

“Why don’t we all go get a cup of caf. You can tell us more about your shield if you want and we can learn more about the adventures of the son of this lovely Cathar.”

Ever.

Forever was a long time. After being in the ice for 900 years, that put that in perspective for Jonyna. But she knew people needed time.

"Your shield is pretty sweet though." Jonyna smiled, offering a kind face.

“I am sorry to hear that. I didn’t even know you had kids. I’m really out of the Jedi loop.”

"Oh, well, I adopted both my paddies. Ko and Rayia, they're sweet. You should come by the ship sometime. We have a pool and a training dojo if you want some R&R. You too Connell." She offered, smile never wavering. She couldn't help it, her own optimism being the only thing that kept her sane these days.

Can I do anything right?

He gets destroyed, not just defeated, destroyed by one of the most sadistic, evil Darksiders in the galaxy. He ends up spending a extendedperiod of time in Bacta, painful surgeries and traction. He put fear in his mother's eyes, rage In his father's eyes. He was unable to help defend the galaxy. Now he is being leashed.

Alright.

There was indeed more to his need to fight than on the surface. The mention of caf was a distraction but an alright one. He was hungry.

Lead the way, Master Ryiah.

She showed leadership, in fact she sounded like Father.

i need to get strong. I might take you up on your offer Jonyna, thank you.

Connel knew he needed to get in the game, this might be the way to do it.

When they arrived to fins caf, Lossa and SID-10S "Sid" would be present already. Lossa dressed in a loose fitting robe and handling a water for herself while the large droid had both arms tied up holding a bundle of cloth.

Hyper protective and fixing his gaze on anyone that came close to the duo.

Noticing the trio enter and sending a wave their way. She'd been discharged from the Dawnbreaker finally, and one of her list of visits had been to Jakku to finally get caught up in person now that she was allowed to roam without needing a chair every ten standard minutes.

"Yo." It wasn't clear if amusement or irritation was the reigning emotion on her face as Sid lifted his arms up to hide the bundle from view. Earning the Droid a mean glance from the Zeltron as she whispered harshly to the Droid.

Katarine did indeed lead the way back into the Enclave and down to the cafeteria. Connel and Jonyna were talking about gathering strength and some relaxation aboard the Cathars ship, while Kat was silently musing as they walked the halls.

When they entered the large room she noticed Lossa waving at them. Kat hadn’t talked to Lossa a lot but she had been present at her knighting ceremony.

“Hello Lossa. It’s good to see you… and what is this?” Her eyes moved toward the droid concealing a bundle but she got the feeling if she tried to move closer that droid might take her head off.

He tried not to be irritated, but the thought of picking up a lightsaber again was off the table.

Thanks but no thanks, I just… can't pick one up.

Shaking his head, he almost didn't notice Darcuhl waving at them.

Oh, hi.

Suddenly Connel felt lost, and resorted to old levels of awkwardness.

I… think I'm going to go.

Irritated at himself, Connel didn't want to leave, but he was feeling the failure and there was no use bringing down the room. No… no he wasn't… so Vanagor started pulling food out of the coolers. He was making a sandwich.

"This one is called Zeriana Rominae Aurerus."

Sid resigned himself to revealing the bundled up baby in his arms, even going so far as to sharing her name. Zeriana was awake and aware, eyes searching before fixing themselves on Katarine as Sid lowered her into view.

It was good to see Connel up and about, but the joy she felt seeing him was short lived with how distracted he seemed.

It didn't help he was giving off such conflicting emotions as Lossa watched him go through his internal debate after excusing himself. Choosing to remain, she didn't comment on his change of heart. Instead throwing a smile and a nod his way before addressing the familiar face.

The Aha moment struck as she cackled.

"Yeah! Yes. The lady and the scoundrel. How are they doing? Oh. Ah, I'm Knight Lossa Aureus, one of the Overs-" Her introduction cut short as the mental cogs seemed to jam, eyes widening before she came back to herself. "One of the Council members of Jakku. And you? I don't think we were properly introduced on Ukatis."
