STRENGTHS You Might Feel A Small Prick: The pinprick fires sharp, ferroceramic darts which have been known to pierce an individual’s personal energy shield whilst in close proximity.
I’ve Got A Nap For That: Each dart carries a payload of SmartTranq, a high grade synthetic tranquiliser designed to adapt to the target’s physiology. This helps to avoid concerns around potentially overdosing a target and can assist in overcoming their immune system. The effects of the tranquiliser will normally put a sentient down for several hours. With the additional bundar root component, when they do regain consciousness, it may be with some degree of short-term memory loss.
So Quiet You Can’t Hear Needle Drop: The Pinprick is stealthy. I mean, needlers are already considerably more quiet than a blaster, but the addition of the built-in silencer makes the Pinprick almost silent. It’s construction from polycarbonate with nightshadow coating further allows it to remain undetected from most security scans.
WEAKNESSESAll This Needless Distance: Simple truth of it is, some personal shields are stronger than others, so in order to achieve the best results, it is usually advisable to fire the Pinprick as close as possible. As this weapon already has a smaller ranger than most typical needlers, this can lead to things getting rather up close and personal to say the least.
Exit Sandman: Mineral-based sentient species have a natural immunity to the tranquiliser found in this pistol, and obviously this weapon isn’t going to do much versus droids.
Plink!: This sidearm is designed to overcome personal shields, but armour is a different story entirely. While capable of puncturing armourweave at close distance, anything above this level of protection and the needles are likely to become nothing more than a passing irritation as they fail to pierce the outermost layers or simply bounce off.
Contra-Banned: There are parts of the galaxy where Needlers could be considered less-than-legal due to their frequent role in assassinations and political kidnappings. When you’re found with one in your possession that has been specifically built to avoid detection, such as the Pinprick, things can get awkward fast. User discretion is advised.
DESCRIPTIONAnother entry in Tricks of the Trade’s catalogue of non-lethal weaponry, the aptly named Pinprick is a feisty little cheeka perfect for situations that require a more subtle, delicate touch. Constructed out of polycarbonate, the nightshadow coating and built-in silencer, it could be considered the proverbial race dupie of the needler world, designed to remain discrete and undetected through most security checkpoints while still managing to pack a sizable punch.
This is primarily thanks to the addition of the SmartTranq formula to the ferroceramic darts, allowing the user to be comfortably reassured that they can not only drop the opponent faster than a Padawan on Coruscant, but also do so without running the risk of accidentally overdosing them into a comatose oblivion. The addition of Bundar Root extract in the tranquilizer formula facilitates short-term memory loss in the target, making all around ideal for covert operative slip ups or anyone stuck on an awkward blind date.
On top of all that, like all needlers, it is also designed to overcome any personal shields the target might be sporting. Handy.
