OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
- Intent: To create a personal ship, serving as a prototype for future generations of ships, for Jack Sandrow
- Image Source: Me, I made it!
- Canon Link: Based on ancient technology - the Rakatan Force-drive
- Permissions: N/A
- Primary Source: N/A
- Manufacturer: Jack Sandrow
- Affiliation: Jack Sandrow
- Market Status: Closed-Market
- Model: "Pod"
- Production: Unique
- Material: Plant & fungal materials, with Plant Surge used to change their composition & purpose. Used as various and diverse phylogenetic components:
- Hull
- Durable, self-healing, uses Force barriers as shielding
- Cockpit
- Translucent, self-sealing, adjusts position depending on gravitational alignment
- Shell
- A component of the hull, the shell allows for concealment and protection of the Force-drive filaments
- The shell itself uses the Force as a 'tractor beam', allowing positioning of itself relative to large Force presences
- Force-drive Filaments
- Collimates and collects Force energies for the Force-drive. Only active when fully deployed.
- The Force-drive can only transport the ship to locations with a large Force presence (such as a well-inhabited planet, or a planet with a Force Nexus)
- Hull
- Classification: Personal Transport
- Length: 70 meters, 110 meters deployed
- Width: 20 meters, 190 meters deployed
- Height: 20 meters, 190 meters deployed
- Armament: None
- Defenses: Very High
- Force barriers, combined with a durable & self-repairing hull, means that the Pod can take a lot of damage before being disabled.
- Hangar Space: None
- Hangar Allocations: None
- Single Craft Hangar: Yes
- Maneuverability Rating: Average
- Speed Rating: Average
- Hyperdrive: Rating 3
- Durable, self-repairing organic hull
- Force Barrier
- The hull is made of multitudes of tiny plants that, by channeling the Force, each project a small Force Barrier. Together, it creates one multi-faceted Force Barrier
- Central escape pod
- The 'single craft hangar' contains a single pod, positioned centrally within the ship, allowing for an emergency quick escape. With limited thrusters, and limited Force-based movement, it isn't meant for anything other than an emergency terrestrial landing.
- The ship 'refuels' by either attaching to a dirt landing pad to nourish itself, or by 'consuming' organic matter to process as nutrients for fuel
- Force-drive
- Using the Rakatan Force-drive as inspiration, the Force-drive (instead of using imprisoned Je'daii for their Force potential) uses its own connection with the Force to power its movement.
- The Force-drive is a prototype, based on ancient Rakatan technology. Its connection to the Force is unfettered by torture, but as it is still in its prototype stage, it is only capable of a maximum hyperdrive rating of 1, and naturally prefers a rating of 3.
- Similar to the Force-drive of old, the Pod's Force-drive only allows it to jump to a system with a significant Force presence, such as:
- Force nexus (Coruscant, Endor, Yavin, etc.)
- Force vergence (Korriban, etc)
- Alternatively, a large enough population or significant & concentrated Force presence in a specific area
- Force-based propulsion
- Using the Force to guide the ship around a frame of reference allows for basic propulsion & maneuvering
- This cannot be used as a weapon, but can be used to repel ships at very close ranges
- Average mobility and average size keeps it from standing out in most scenarios
- Force-based propulsion & hyperdrive means it does not require any external fuel, other than a connection to the Force & on occasion the time to connect to a natural surface to 'refuel'
- A self-repairing hull & Force-based shielding allows for a very durable ship, and with time it can fully repair itself as long as it sustains less than 74% total damage
- A small escape pod/cockpit allows for an emergency eject in the most critical of scenarios
- A very distinct organic hull means that it will stand out in just about any spaceport
- A required Force connection means that any Force void will completely and totally disable the ship. If it is in space, it will 'freeze up', and if implanted on the surface of a planet, will not move again from that spot, until the Force void is removed.
- No standard refueling method means that without any fuel supplements, the ship will eventually become sedentary
- The Force-drive requires a very long time to deploy, charge, and activate.
- While exposed, the Force-drive filaments are extremely susceptible to damage, as they do not have the regenerative properties of the hull
- The Force-drive also necessitates jumping to systems that have a Force nexus, or to an otherwise highly-populated or Force-sensitive location. It cannot travel simply by entering in coordinates - in fact, it cannot travel to deep space at all, under its own power.
- In addiction, the Force-drive is susceptible to the regular weaknesses of standard hyperdrives (interdiction, hyperspace lanes, gravity wells, etc)
- The escape pod/cockpit does not have any ability to defend itself at all. It cannot survive in deep space, and can only sustain its occupant until a landing on a planet.
The Pod is a fully organic, 100% regenerative living ship. Inspired by the Yuuzhan Vong & Zonama Sekot bio-ships of old, this is instead crafted fully out of flora and fungi, with no fauna or technology required. Standing on its 'nose', it can accept either biofuel & nutrient intake, or dig into a natural surface to refuel via nutrients in the ground. Able to also refuel by absorbing Force energies, the ship is then able to take off. Once in orbit, the shell of the Pod can open, allowing the Force-drive filaments to begin to spread, collecting & collimating Force energy to power the Force-drive.
This process takes time, and leaves the filaments completely exposed. Every 'charge' takes time, and the ship can only jump when it is fully charged, and can only jump to a concentrated Force presence (see Force drive in Advanced Systems). This strongly limits its interplanetary jumping capabilities, but also allows it travel without rigorously sticking to major hyperspace lanes, allowing the flow of the Force to guide its journey.
Its pure and undiluted connection to the Force allows it constant regenerative properties, as well as the ability to shield and protect it from assault. While not infinitely powerful, with enough time, nutrients, and energy, it can regenerate all damage inflicted upon it, up to a certain point. However, this connection makes it inherently susceptible to Force voids, and other types of Force-nullifying abilities. Its Force presence also prevents it from 'hiding' in the Force. However, being entirely organic allows it to hide where normal metal ships might otherwise be detected.
The ship trades technological superiority for biological regeneration and a strong Force connection. What it makes up for in ability, however, it loses due to the fact it is very much a prototype. In the future, iterations on this design may allow for improved abilities, or enhanced performance. For now, however, it is a proof-of-concept, and a platform for possible ideations.
