The young girl walked the impressive halls of the Naval academy, she and her sister had come in advance of their father. Partially to see how the armed forces behaved without the Diarch around.

As she walked, she took in the impressive building, it seemed cold and distant, efficient, like everything else in her father's domain. It screamed of cold power, just like the man himself.
Shadow walked as the opposite of her namesake, taking in the academy like she had supplanted her father as Diarch, eyes wide and staring at the trainees and officers.

As she walked, she saw an older man, stiff and too formal she thought, but he reminded her slightly of her Father.

"You must be high admiral what's his name. Father warned me you might be around somewhere. You're his newest friend correct?"

The halls of the Rae Sloane Imperial Naval Academy were indeed cold and efficient. It was the nature of Imperial architecture to be streamlined, and yet also imposing in appearance. It was as much an aesthetic choice as a logistical one. With everything kept to a bare essential status, it was easy for new Imperial outposts of almost any size to be built with rapid efficiency and quality. The shock and awe of an Imperial force conquering a world, and then construction a mighty fortress while the populace is still reeling from their change of circumstances was just as Imperial as the Star Destroyer.

At the moment, the Naval Academy was relatively empty. Most recruits were still being selected, with only the most senior and already capable cadets being present. With the growing size of the Diarchy Navy, the need for new officers was growing exponentially by the day. The recent acquisition of new worlds was helping; with the best and brightest of their militaries being pressed into service, but a new generation would be needed.

Shan was currently in the main entryway of Academy spire complex, speaking with several officers currently on loan from the Diarch's Flagship, the Dominus, to help get things operating. The approaching footsteps of the young woman were ignored at first, but her very direct interruption was not so easily dismissed.

Shan turned to look at the woman, his eyes narrowed as he took in her appearance. Something about her was ringing a warning bell in his mind, but at the moment he could not place it. Her declaring her familiar ties though, that reminded Pellian, and sealed her fate.

"High Admiral Pellian," Shan said, turning to face the woman fully. He stood upright and proper before her, his hands folded behind his back and the freshly made obsidian black uniform he wore almost gleaming in the light of the Academy. "This Academy was created by your father's will, but I run it. As for whether we are friends or not is not your concern. He is my Lord, and that is enough."

Pellian, so that was his name. Stuffy old guy, Shadow thought. But oh well.

“My father is your lord, that makes me your lady right? You have to listen to me too”

she knew her father would chastise her if he were there, but.. he wasn’t there.

She eyed the imperial up and down, trying to gauge his strength. He had an unspoken discipline about him, he did remind her of father.

“Father says we are to be commanders one day. I’d love to be in charge of a whole ship!”

Shan's gaze never wavered as he stared down at the woman, no, the child before him. Impertinent and self important, all the hallmarks of a young mind raised without wants or desires not being catered to. The standard traits of a spoiled aristocrat or royal. Shan turned, gesturing with his chin and dismissing the other Diarchy officers waiting just nearby. They nodded, saluting the High Admiral before they spun around, and did their best to look like they were not running from the brewing confrontation.

"The Diarchy, the nation your Father has founded is not an Empire," Shan said, his tone cold and neutral. "We are a nation of Order and Law, Control and Security. He rules because he founded the Diarchy. He rules because he is the best suited for the task at hand, for winning the Final War. You..." Shan took a step towards the girl, increasing the height disparity and looking down on her.

"You will not go near a single one of my ships until I deem you worthy. The Diarchy is your Father's, but the Navy is mind. Should you think to force your will on my officers or ships, then I shall deem you a threat to the good of the Diarchy. Father or not, you will not be safe from my judgement." The final statement was accented by Shan lowering one of his hands, the gloved fingers just barely touching the top of the blaster at his hip.

Shadow was stunned into silence for a moment. No one talked to her like that. Out of fear, or was it respect? Of her father.

It was refreshing, she liked this man.
reining in her more aggressive tendencies she looked up at the older man, giving him just a fraction of the respect she usually reserved only for her father or uncle.. he’d earned it at least.

Measuring her words she said.

“My uncle and Father created this nation.. they’ve gotten so many people to follow them.. to die for them. Men.. like you.. who call him lord and lay down their lives for the vision he has for the galaxy.. I hope one day to be worthy of that same respect.”

she met the stern gaze of the High Admiral, her own determination showing in her amber eyes.

“If I want to be like my father.. I have a lot to learn.. I want to be worthy of the loyalty others show him.. will you teach me how to earn it?”

Shan nodded his head shallowly, seeing a bit if realization dawning on her face. "They are both great men, but they did not earn that respect by inheriting it. They fought for it tooth and nail. Men fight and die for them because they know that their Diarch's will fight beside them, have fought beside them. They are great men because they have clawed themselves from nothing to achieve it."

Shan extended his hand out to the woman, the black gloved fingers flexing slightly. "If you are willing to learn, there will be those to guide you. If you listen, you will hear. Should there be time in your education within the Brotherhood, then perhaps we will find time for classes here at the Academy."

The Diarch walked the halls of the academy, his arrival had been somewhat delayed so he had sent his daughters ahead of him.

As the junior officers gave him a tour, he spotted the man he had come to see. With his daughter no less.

Approaching, he spoke first to the High Admiral

“High Admiral, I trust my daughter hasn’t been making too much of a commotion in my absence?”

he gazed down at the child, the flush in her cheeks telling him all he needed to know.

“leave us, go find your sister and prepare yourselves for the ceremony.”

he turned back to the older man, and started walking down the hallway.

“the facility is quite impressive Shan, tell me, are we fully operational?”

Shan turned to see the approach of the Diarch, and snapped a salute. Unlike the daughter, Shan knew the father was, here and now, worthy of the sign of respect. Taking one last glance at her, Shan looked back to Reign, shaking his head. "No, Lord Diarch. She has not been any trouble." He waited for Lady Shadow to depart the meeting before turning back to half the Diarchy ruling body.

"Thank you, Lord Reign. The facility still has a few final touches before its completion, but I expect us to be done within the month. As for being fully operational..." Shan shrugged his shoulders, gesturing for Lord Reign to walk with him. "I am currently pulling senior officers from our fleet to act as temporary instructors, but it is a waste of their talent and ability. The first class of graduates, rushed through the process, will be ready to be deployed in less than three months, but they will be poor replacements for the instructors."

Passing through an antechamber, the two men would step onto a turbolift shaft, ascending rapidly up the central spire. "In short Lord, we need to find skilled instructors."
