Press Release: Alli Wren and What happened on Druckenwell

Alli stood on the official baktoid podium. She was wearing a black pantsuit and was looking her best. She started speaking once the room quieted down. Press only were allowed in the room.

" Greetings, I am here to address the incident on the planet DruckenWell. " She took a deep breath. " I was there over seeing my interests during the course of the battle and continually reminded both sides to be careful of the structure that ended up crashing into the planet. I tried everything I could but we all know, the man that was convicted and tried by the ASA shot down the shipyards. At this point they were too far gone and I personally hacked every weapon I could to try to break up the rings of docks to lessen their impact on the planet. It was then that a rogue AI was detected hacking into Baktoids internal computer systems and taking over everything they could reach. I of course defended Baktoids network and overloaded the circuits by using an over ride code. This cut out the A.I. and prevented her from illegally entering Baktoid's network and doing who knows what free. I am hoping the crash killed any remnant of her and seeing how she has not popped up since then I believe it to be true.. The rings of the yards were already falling and nothing would of saved them. I was neutral in the battle as I still am. I have only ever been interested in protecting Baktoids Assets. Since it was Baktoids shipyards that crashed into the planet of DruckenWell, Baktoid Industrial Systems has opened up a fund for the survivors of the horrific invasion and will continue to work with them to help them in their time of need. I also implore that should any government wish to investigate the allegations that I would have shut off switches on my products, I will work fully with them to ensure that we don't. They can see every version of our code, and any and all design plans should they wish too. I want to ensure that Baktoid would never put such a device in it's products. I will now take questions."

As the broadcast began, Ashin gave the holocast a long, slow blink.

"Jenkins, this is Varanin. I'm watching this press conference of Wren's -- oh, you're there? I feel like a press release of my own. No, I'm in the Unknown Regions, but the holocomm can handle it. Yes, through you, exclusive; yes, GNN logo, everything, if you can make it happen right now. Thanks."

She didn't look too bad, all things considered -- black quasi-uniform, no decorations, perfect ensemble for an authoritarian leader. The Peregrine's thronelike command chair/shock couch would serve as a decent backdrop. She freshened up and came back to the chair while her GNN contact came online with a preamble.

"Good evening. My name is Ashin Varanin." Former Empress of the Sith Empire, former Jedi Master and Watchman of Korriban, former Grand Admiral, currently on her third face but still using the same name. When that name came up, people talked about treason and potential war crimes and all manner of seriousness. "At the Battle of Druckenwell, I was one of the people who attempted to reduce the falling shipyard's damage to the planet. I have no affiliation with the Omega Protectorate or the Abrion Systems Authority, and no business interests for or against Baktoid Industries. My only motivation in making this statement is that I have no patience for those who willfully mislead the public for personal ends, and never have.

"As someone who was intimately involved with the unsuccessful effort to save Druckenwell, I can categorically state that Miss Wren is misrepresenting the facts. Her careless, selfish, and reactionary choices directly contributed to the destruction of Druckenwell and the deaths of billions. When she says that she has only ever been interested in protecting Baktoid's assets, what she means is that she actively resisted liberating forces who were attempting to save the planet. When she says that she will cooperate fully with all investigating governments, what she doesn't mention is the massive legal battle she has been waging against all investigators. When she says Baktoid has never put any killswitches in its products, what she doesn't mention is the well-documented use of those killswitches during her arrest on Corellia in the company of the known war criminal Circe Savan. I've had the chance to oversee several war crimes tribunals, and when Miss Wren insists that only one man is responsible for Druckenwell's catastrophe -- well, I don't think a lie that transparent needs any real commentary. In short, nothing you just heard from her is true. Thank you."

The transmission ended; she dusted off her hands and went to take a shower.

It was well past two in the morning when the back to back press releases spread across the Holonet. Beer in one hand, remote in the other, Larraq was enjoying being back in his office for what felt like the first time in months. Talyn lay sleeping upon the floor, while Larraq found himself leaned back quite comfortably in his loosely fitted Tshirt and white boxers with red hearts.

<So [member="Alli Wren"] finally found herself behind the podium?> Larraq commented to himself in thought. He had been spared that particular experience when his actions had caused the death of billions. Then again, that was the Sith Empire. And his calculations hadn't accounted for the possibility that a Sith Warlord would abandon her post and leave the planet to its fate.

There were days when he wondered what had happened to that particular war criminal. He wondered if the Sith of the galaxy had ever made her pay for her sins... Or if someone had managed to track down and kill the criminal after her escape from Myrkr. But in truth, it had been months since such thoughts had entered his mind. Were it not for the retaliatory statements of [member="Ashin Varanin"], it would likely have been several more before such thoughts haunted him once again.

But the woman had made her statements. And the news agencies had shotgunned those statements across every corner of the galaxy for all to hear. And now Rygel Larraq's mind was fixated on the subject.

Alli Wren, shady businesswoman accused of criminal incompetence to the tune of several billion civilian deaths... Was somehow connected to the war criminal Circe Savan.

Larraq calmly sat down his beer and pressed the intercom built into the arm of the sofa.

"Yes Mr Larraq?" Came the voice of the young woman who had been placed into the secretary's chair for the duration of the night.

"I want intel. Find me everything we've got and everything we don't. I don't care if you have to pry it from the Hutt Cartel or the Black Sun Pirates. I want everything there is to know on [member="Alli Wren"]." Larraq said angrily, letting his emotions get the better of him. His dreams had been haunted by the sight of burned schools and flattened orphanages for far too long. He finally had the opportunity to do something about the woman responsible for those sleepless night... the woman responsible for the blood on his hands...

"When you're done with that." Rygel Larraq added as he closed his eyes and willed himself to calm down. "Get me the Bounty Hunter's Guild."

"Yes Mr Larraq." Came the worried voice of his inexperienced secretary.

The first comment was sent via an broadcast. "
"As stated I did destroy my own security guard droids via a kill switch on Corelia during my wedding, but they were very different than the ones that are sold to anyone else. I have not begun any legal battles regarding the use of kill switches and already complied with the Omega Protectorate requests. I have been committed to staying neutral and did not actively resist any force let alone a liberating one. I have sent aid from the beginning through any means possible to Druckenwell even using other companies when my aid was refused by the protectorate. I regret what occured on Druckenwell, I long called it my home. I think everyday what I could of done to prevent it. "

It took all but the grand total of five minutes for a holoprojection of Aynea, only a short starfighter's journey away at her new dwelling in Mandalorian space, to force its way upon Larraq's projectors.
"So I hear you need dirt on Ms. Wren, and a registered bounty hunter. I'll meet you in twenty minutes. Don't skip town."
The foxtress leaned her head aside and crossed her arms.
"And you owe that woman a raise."
Just as proposed, Aynea had already begun throwing on her glistaweb-lace robes and heading out of the door to her villa. Well... there were worse worlds to put a vacation estate on.

Larraq,

I'm told you could use a hand in the bounty hunter department as regards some corporate magnate types. Word is you're after Baktoid and Subach. If you can spare a poor bounty hunter a dime, I might be able to solve your problem.
