- Skills: Augustus is trained in a wide-variety of martial arts, including hand-to-hand techniques and traditional melee weapons. He's an extremely proficient force-user as well, well-versed in the use of a lightsaber with a primary focus on Form V: Shien/Djem So. His skill with a lightsaber is recognized as being on par with a Jedi or Sith Master, although his proficiency with force powers has only reached the level of a Knight at best. Augustus is also decent with a blaster in his hands, granted it is no by means his forte.
- Personality: Augustus is a serious, pragmatic and extremely calculating man. He represents a stark contrast to the outwardly charismatic Lorcan and the free-spirited Lucien, with his role within the family being the brother who presents the cold efficiency of the Dooku brothers. He holds his family above all, which is represented by his role as the Captain of the Serennoan Royal Guard. Despite the claims that he's a cold-hearted man who clearly isn't as open to the idea of having a good time, he is far from being a one-dimensional introvert with a focus on his duties and nothing else. His love for his family and planet are what drives him to work as hard as he does in his position. He lacks the fiery ambition of Lorcan, but is far more diligent in the station he's been provided, and unlike Lucien's burning desire to fight back against fate, Augustus lets the Force guide his way more often than not. Augustus is humble, diligent, family-orientated and prideful enough to command the respect needed for a man of his station. If anything he is the the brother that his family -- not just his brothers -- need to equal out the the family.
- Weapon of Choice: His weapon of a choice is the lightsaber, his primary weapon, albeit he keeps several other options on his person for non-lethal and backup options.
- Combat Function: Augustus is a combatant first and foremost, utilizing his talent as a well-trained force user to delve into combat at the vanguard to lead his men from the front unless the situation calls for a more discretionary approach. Secondary to that he is a commander of men, primarily leading the Serennoan Royal Guard although he's fully capable of functioning as a tactician of combat formations involving more than the elite force of men he usually commands. In the more broadly-focused role as a commander and tactician, his specialization is in land-based operations, choosing to leave space-centric operations to the far-more competent command of his older brother, Prince Lorcan.
- Capable & Influential - Augustus earned status as the Royal Guard's Captain through a mixture of talent and hard-work, not through the nepotism so clearly associated with the stereotype of royalty and nobility. He is a dangerous man to the enemies of House Serenno, with potent skills that allow him to shine brightly in most combat situations, be it against standard enemies or other force-trained individuals. His overall diligence has allowed him to maintain his position at his grandfather's side with little regard to losing his station to another, and his willingness to protect the Royal House of Serenno has given him a reputation within the Empire to get the job done quickly, efficiently, and without mercy. As such, he's become well-known throughout the D'astan sector and beyond for his combination of abilities and reputation, providing him a level of influence that far surpasses his station on Serenno by a long shot.
- Revered Commander of Men - There are no military men of Serennoan-blood, be they nobility or common-born, that command more respect among the planet's military forces than Augustus himself. Not even his brother Lorcan, Serenno's finest fleet commander, can boast to having the complete loyalty of the fighting men under his command to the level that his younger brother does. Augustus is a man who leads from the front, cutting down the enemies of Serenno and the Empire with a brutality so skillfully done that he is revered among his fellow Royal Guards and common soldier alike for the efficacy of his actions. He lives, fights, and will willingly die alongside his men in the theater of war, treating all men of every station with equality in the respect he gives to those who would fight and die by his side. Serenno's military-men see this, and they understand fully that there is no veil to the actions of Augustus, who is simply pragmatic and diligent in everything he does. He is the epotime of a Serennoan warrior, and a living, venerable legend for them to claim as the pinnacle of their warrior culture.
- Talent for Command - Augustus may not have been trained to the same military-literate standard as your average Imperial officer, but nonetheless he is an exemplar commander when put in charge of a planetary combat theater. Real-world experience shaped his ability to command, and he does boast a fine enough understanding of military history thanks to an education that only nobility could afford. During the Sith subjugation of Serenno, his grandfather arranged for the Dooku brothers to be safely retreated back to Dooku compound to avoid the bulk of the war, although Augustus would not heed his grandfather's command until the last moment. He'd lead a sizable contingent of Serenno's fighting men in a desperate defense of the planet, only leaving back to the compound at the final moment that his superiors decided the war was lost, and ordered the surrender of all forces planet-wide. Later beneath Sith rule, Augustus proved himself even further in the multiple wars of subjugation that were occurring all across the borders of the expanded Sith Empire. These wars of subjugation and sometimes annihilation would shape him into a seasoned commander and tactician, which he'd later bring back to Serenno after his return to the planet, and his promotion to Captain of the Royal Guard.
- Loyal to a fault - His loyalty to both Serenno and House Serenno alike is as unyielding as the mountain which the Dooku compound sits upon. His grandfather's willingness to wheel his family into a position of power came at the detriment of others, and sometimes his own family, such as the case of the young Prince-in-exile Lucien. Even so he consciously refuses to disobey most commands which fall upon him from the House Serenno-Dooku patriarch, as he understands that his grandfather's actions have always been for the benefit of his family as a whole. He'll supervise the destruction of the other noble houses if his grandfather orders it done, and would even be the vanguard of a Serrenoan insurrection if Serrenoan independence is decided the wisest course of action over continued loyalty to the Empire. The one thing he won't do is turn his blade on his family, no matter the consequences to his defiance. For example, he could've stopped Prince Lucien from ever reaching the spaceport, and he even knew of Lorcan's meeting with the youngest brother on Serenno's funeral moon. There are limits to the voracity of his loyalty, and it usually begins and ends where his family is the topic.
- Politically checkmated - It is no secret that Augustus wields a considerable amount of influence system-wide, which means it's theoretically possible for him to push his own agenda-- if he wanted to do. It is also no secret that he has no desire to do so, and he makes this as transparent as possible to all within the Serennoan court, including his grandfather. Even with this being known, it is a common whisper that his promotion to Captain of the Royal Guard was not solely due to him clearly being the perfect man for the position. It keeps him close to his grandfather, and primarily stationed at Court when not on assignment. Even if he wanted to use the sheer level of influence he's acquired to push his own agenda, it is almost impossible for him to do so without word quickly reaching the family Patriarch, effectively checkmating any theoretical possibility for him to wield his influence outside of the Court, and even within. It is rumored that this state of checkmate was the sole reason that he, unlike Lorcan, was not able to assist Lucien in leaving Serenno outside of indirect means. While he does hold a permanent order to apprehend the boy if he ever returns to the planet, there have already been several cases of Lucien's return where the Royal Guard were simply too late to apprehend him. It is the only thing he really can afford to do to help out his youngest brother.
- Honorable & Principled Combatant - Augustus is the most honorable of the three Dooku brothers, and it even shows in the way he does battle. Generally speaking, he fights with a lightsaber and won't deviate to a secondary weapon during the heat of battle. This comes at the disadvantage of him on principle being primarily a melee-focused warrior, which means it's entirely possible for him to be put at the disadvantage through the use of enough suppressive fire coming his way. He also does not strike down his foes in a way that would bring dishonor to his personal code, which means the stabbing in the back, cheap shots and feints are left to his younger brother to take advantage of and not him. While that's not to say that he won't mercilessly cut down someone who's standing in his way directly, it is also entirely possible for him to leave an opening for the more cunning opponent to take advantage of, simply because he'd rather strike his opponent down in a method that's more in line with his principles.
HISTORICAL INFORMATION
Augustus is the second son, the middle child of Alistair and Victoria Dooku, and the Captain of Serenno's Royal Guard. Recognized for his force-sensitivity at a young age, Augustus underwent training in the way of the force in a manner similar to his younger brother Lucien. Unlike Lucien -- who underwent his training beneath a single master for the most part -- Augustus was provided multiple masters to hone his latent potential with the force, and his training was primarily undertaken in and around the D'astan sector of the Outer Rim. Beneath his cadre of Masters, his abilities were honed to a point where Augustus was proficient with the force, and a touch more talented with a lightsaber by the end of his adolescent years.
Afterwards he returned to Serenno at his grandfather's behest, who arranged for Augustus to enter the military as a junior officer in the Land component of Serenno's defense forces. What followed was a long career of honing his ability as a commander. He moved through the ranks of the planet's PDF over time, promotions following naturally as he proved himself through combat experience [via. minor insurrectionists, insurgencies and joint-boarding ops against voidborne threats] and a high level of respect garnered among the men beneath his command.
By the time the Sith Empire arrived to subjugate the system, Augustus was a competent senior officer with multiple regiments of men under his command. His grandfather requested for the Dooku brothers to exit from the combat zone, sensing the impending defeat that would surely come for Serenno's forces, but Augustus refused to leave his command no matter the wishes of the Dooku family's patriarch. He led his men almost to the very end, and even fought on the frontlines alongside those very same men who gave their lives to defend the independence of their homeworld. It was only after the planet's High Command officially surrender did he return back to the Dooku compound, his surviving men in tow along with him.
In the aftermath of Serenno's subjugation, the Dooku brothers were subsequently absorbed into the overall command structure of the Sith Empire's military. While Lorcan went to the Sith-Imperial Armada, the independently force-trained Augustus was delivered into the heart of the Empire's Sith Order at the best of his grandfather. It was here where he finished his training, beginning as an acolyte and following through to till the rank of a Knight was achieved. With this final honor received, Augustus returned back to Serenno and was awarded the title of Captain of his grandfather's Royal Guard, along with the rank of Lord Colonel within Serenno's defense forces [which were reorganized into the Sith-Imperial Legion's structure].
Since then he's spent the majority of his time on Serenno, focusing on the training of the Royal Guard and the training of Serenno's fighting men, who by and large were entering the Sith-Imperial Legion. By the present day, Augustus has attained the rank of Major General, although his duties within the Royal Palace do take precedent over his military commitments. He has, although, come to be viewed with reverence among Serenno's ground component for his accolades during the planet's subjugation, along with the reputation that followed as the planet's fiercest commander, who's endearing to his men and loyal to a fault. At this point in time, his commitment to the Sith Order itself is mostly ceremonious outside of the dues he owes them as a member of their order.
