STRENGTHS
- Suckerpunch. This starfighter design is optomized for planetary bombardment inside atmosphere, where its variable payload of gravity bombs will have maximum effectiveness.
- Fast. This starfighter boasts higher than average velocity at top speed.
- Stress Free Piloting. Corellia Digital's patented Dual-Drive propulsion technology automatically optimizes power allocation between the repulsorlifts, ion engines, and the hyperdrive based on the environmental factors present (interstellar vs. atmospheric flight operation). This allows the pilot to focus on navigation without distraction from transferring power to/from the hyperdrive or disengaging the repulsors.
- Sluggish. Though it boasts powerful thrust engines capable of high performance output, the Ghost struggled for maneuverability and took time to generate momentum.
- Specialized. As this configuration is focused on planetary engagement, its effectiveness as an interstellar combatant is severely limited.
- Atmospheric to Interstellar Transition Delay. Some pilots (read: control freaks) dislike that the Dual-Drive system disengages the hyperdrive when in atmosphere. This creates a delay when transitioning back to interstellar space before the hyperdrive is brought online.
- New Slicer Who Dis? Like any Corellia Digital technology, the level of automation present presents a wonderful opportunity for a slicer to come along and jack this up.
Commissioned in 858 ABY by the Alliance, Project FROST was envisioned as a tactical deployment of CryoBan cells against the heavy infantry of the Bryn'adul. It was believed that CryoBan cells would be effective in slowing the advance of a genocidal war that had already claimed several planets near the historical Hutt Space region.
The Frost-class Atmospheric Heavy Bomber is a variant on the earlier Ghost-class design constructed for the Agents of Chaos. While sharing the same frame, the engine design and weapon systems were changed to maximize operation inside atmosphere to allow maximum effectiveness in delivery of gravity-fed cluster bombs against a planetary based armored infantry. The design choices make the Frost-class a poor interstellar combatant, where its effective weaponry is limited to particle weapons only. To aid with softening the target, the singular ion cannon was kept.
With funding from the Alliance to commence production of the variant design, the Frost went into production at the company's shipyards over Drall. The cockpit design focused on ensuring pilot comfort with an emphasis on the flying experience. Multimedia and communications components were integrated into a singular console display that managed subspace communications, navigation, and also supplied a music player in an immersive sound experience. The purchase of a Frost-class bomber included with it a free 1 year subscription to Corellia Digital's streaming library (HoloNet connection required. Data charges per carrier fee. Consult your carrier more fee schedules and details). All of these features combine to make the Corellia Defense Frost-class Atmospheric Heavy Bomber the best choice for deploying chemical weapons against the opposition.
