ADVANCED FEATURES

STRENGTHS
  • AR-0B Damage Reduction Component - One of the few defensive components installed on the Lupus-class; this specialized system maintains an ablative current that courses through the hull plating of the vessel. The intended purpose of this current is to assist in mitigating the build up of harmful particles on the vessel's hull plating, thus increasing its longevity and the duration between required trips to a dedicated repair facility for repairs or refitting of the hull plating.
  • GalaxyGuard Mk VII - Likewise, one of the few defensive components that are installed on the Lupus-class; and one which provides additional endurance and operational range to the vessel's Deflector Shields. This increases the shield's protective capabilities and operational longevity, providing a bit more protection beyond what little the Lupus-class already maintains.
  • Heavy Automation - As a means to increase the number of weapon systems that were installed and cut down on the need for additional crew, many of the vessel's primary, secondary, and tertiary systems are highly automated. These automated systems ensure that the vessel is capable of being operated with a smaller crew than what is normally seen on a Frigate of its size.
  • T-80 Droid Targeter - A sophisticated droid targeting system, each Lupus-class vessel is equipped with one such device that assists in increasing the accuracy of the ranged weapon systems installed on the vessel. This is accomplished through the utilization of additional sensors and miniature gyromotors - allowing the gunners to ensure that a salvo of their ordnance strikes closer to the target than if they were firing without the system.
  • High Maneuverability - What the Lupus-class lacks in defense, it more than makes up for in its maneuverability. Designed to serve as a Fast-Attack craft, the Lupus-class excels in coupling its maneuverability and speed to strike enemy targets hard and flee before fire can be returned upon the vessel.
  • High Speed - As stated; the Lupus-class was designed with a focus around speed and maneuverability in exchange for added defenses. The decrease in such additional systems provided a marked increase in its overall speed, which is often utilized to protect the vessel more than its defensive systems and shields.

WEAKNESSES
  • Heavy Ordnance - Each Lupus-class carries onboard a sizeable payload of explosive devices, ranging from Concussion Missiles to Proton Torpedoes. In the event that its defenses fail, or a lucky shot breaches the hull in just the right place; there would be no chance for the crew to escape - even with the inclusion of Escape Pods - as the Lupus-class is more likely to be torn apart by the ensuing explosion.
  • Heavy Automation - Further ensuring that the vessel was capable of holding as much weaponry as possible, as well as the storage needed for the munitions for those weapon systems; many of its systems are heavily automated to cut down on crew capacity requirements. In the event that these systems were disabled or heavily damaged by Ion-based weaponry, it would place an additional burden on the already small crew complement.
  • Minimal Defenses - Due to the need to increase the vessel's speed, maneuverability, and fill as much room as possible for its sizeable arsenal, certain areas were otherwise neglected. The Lupus-class lacks many of the protective and defensive capabilities as other vessels, relying more on its speed and maneuverability. In this regard, it is incapable of standing toe-to-toe with other Capital Ships in engagements, and would easily be overwhelmed by superior firepower.
  • Starfighter Support - Though designed with speed and maneuverability in mind, the Lupus-class is still a Frigate, and as such, it can easily be outclassed by faster moving vessels, or in kind, easily swarmed by Starfighter or Bomber Squadrons. To this end, it is highly suggested that the Lupus-class retain an escort of vessels that specialize in Anti-Starfighter capabilities.
  • Forward-Firing Arc - Many of the weapon systems that are utilized by the Lupus-class are fixed in a forward firing position, requiring the vessel to be aimed or directed towards a target to be utilized appropriately.
  • Resupply - The Lupus-class is a highly specialized Frigate, and as such, maintains only a limited ordnance in regards to its weapon systems. Once this initial inventory of ordnance is spent, the vessel is forced to retreated to an appropriate location for resupply, or must rely on its limited armaments if it is otherwise incapable of retreating to a safe location for resupply.

DESCRIPTION
The first Lupus-class Missile Frigates that were produced were utilized by the Trade Federation prior to the Clone Wars, and were known more from the accounts of Nym and his Pirates that had faced these vessels prior to their inclusion within the overall Confederacy Navy. What information and little is known of those previous iterations reported a smaller vessel, with claw like protrusions that were armed with minimal weapon systems though still packed a punch when utilized. This variant of the Lupus-class is a direct successor, and was designed to accompany and compliment the older variants that may still be in operation in the Galaxy. Compared to its predecessor, the Lupus-class maintains a heavier array of weapon systems, ranging from Proton Torpedoes to General Purpose Launch tubes capable of deploying nearly any kind of ordnance payload that is provided to the vessel.

However, the focus of the Lupus-class on serving in the role of a Missile Frigate has its own downside, mainly in the large arsenal of heavy ordnance that the vessel often carries. Despite the vessel coming equipped with Escape Pods, in the event that its large payload of ordnance was somehow detonated in the heat of battle via a lucky or targeted blast, the vessel itself would be rendered nothing more than scrap metal in the ensuing, violent explosion. Of course this also provides a second drawback in the simple fact that once the Lupus-class has expended its limited ordnance, it must retreat to an appropriate depot for resupply; and in the event that this cannot be accomplished, it is forced to rely on its small complement of Agrocite cannons to have any form of offensive capabilities.

Though not as heavily defended as other frigates, the Lupus-class was designed to take advantage of this lack of heavier defenses, which can be seen in the vessels higher speed and maneuverability. This variables are often utilized in place of heavy defenses to keep the vessel out of trouble, or to act in a role as a Fast-Attack craft, swooping in for a targeted strike before retreating to the rear or far ends of a fleet. In order to ensure that the ordnance deployed by the Lupus-class remained on target and was not wasted, the vessel is equipped with a T-80 Droid Targeter. This component assists in increasing the accuracy of long-range strikes utilizing various sensors and miniature gyromotors - this allows the gunners to ensure that their strikes are closer to their intended target than if they were operating without the system.

Additional problems can be seen throughout the Lupus-class, such as its use of automated systems - which were installed with the intention of ensuring as few lives as possible were lost in the event that the vessel was destroyed. This however is its own drawback; as if those automated systems were disabled or destroyed via Ion-based weaponry, the nearly skeletal crew would have additional burdens placed upon them to maintain the vessel's operational capabilities. Likewise, it is still capable of being overwhelmed via Starfighter swarms - often being forced to rely on support corvettes or Starfighter Squadrons provided by dedicated carriers as an added layer of defense to compensate for its lessened defensive capabilities.

However, in the hands of a skilled crew and a dedicated captain, the Lupus-class is more than capable of providing deep artillery strikes or precision strikes against enemy vessels; utilizing its speed and maneuverability to close the distance and score heavy hits before slipping away to line up for another run. The Lupus-class is more than capable of providing heavier firepower in a smaller package to those fleets that require, and as always, while the most recent iteration in a continuation of that line, it is meant to be deployed alongside older Lupus-class vessels to complement their strengths and their weaknesses; with a mixed fleet of the two being more than capable of wreaking havoc among an enemy fleet.
