ADVANCED FEATURES

STRENGTHS
  • High Defenses - Though designated as a Battle Carrier, the Metus-class is more focused on the aspects of carrier vessel and defense rather than the offensive capabilities seen in other vessels. Though not designed to stand toe-to-toe with heavier Battlecruisers or even light Star Destroyers that are heavily armed; the Metus-class is more than capable of withstanding the dangers of a pitched fleet engagement to continue supporting allied forces.
  • Dedicated Carrier - The Metus-class was designed with a central focus on the creation of a dedicated carrier - as well as being designed from an inside joke within the Confederacy - to deploy a vast swarm of Starfighter and Support Craft Squadrons.
  • Dorsal Flight Deck - Sharing a similar design aspect to the Venator-class, the Metus-class was designed with a vast dorsal flight deck that can be opened and utilized for the rapid deployment of Starfighter and Support Craft assets carried by the vessel.
  • Onboard Starfighter Repair Facilities - As a means to ensure the continued operational capacity of its Starfighter Squadrons, the Metus-class is equipped with multiple onboard facilities that can be utilized to craft and fabricate parts and components to repair damaged vessels. This ensures that the vessel is capable of maintaining its Starfighter Squadrons and Support Craft and ensuring its operational capacity is not diminished due to a lack of operational vessels.
  • Systems Command - Beyond its designation as a Dedicated Carrier, the Metus-class also maintains a sizeable garrison and is capable of deploying said garrison as needed. Maintaining a complement of prefabricated garrisons, the vessel can be utilized to reinforce a system or otherwise secure one via the deployment of these carried planetary assets.
  • Automation - A commonplace utilization of integrated droid brains and astromechs droids; many of the vessel's systems are automated and controlled via these integrated droids or computerized systems. This design ensures that the vessel can be operated with a smaller crew - or that the crew already onboard can focus on other areas of operations, freeing them up from the more tedious tasks that they may otherwise have been forced to cover.
  • Secondary Hangars - Located on the Port and Starboard sections of the vessel, the Metus-class was designed with secondary hangars which can be utilized in the rapid deployment of Starfighter or Support Craft Squadrons. Alternatively, they can be utilized to rapidly retrieve its Starfighter complements during fleet engagements while keeping incoming craft clear from the dorsal flight deck.
  • Docking Claws - Considered secondary in terms of its capabilities or utilization, the Metus-class is equipped with a series of docking claws along the exterior of the vessel. These docking claws can be utilized to dock with exterior vessels, or utilized to rapidly deploy Starfighter assets that the vessel already carries rather than going through the lengthy process of deploying them directly from the hangar bays.

WEAKNESSES
  • Limited Maneuverability - Similar in its handling capabilities as a barn that an individual has strapped a pair of rockets to the sides; the Metus-class is incapable of accomplishing swift movements, tight turns, or other maneuvers that more nimble craft can accomplish.
  • Limited Speed - With a design focused on increasing the interior capacity to carry a larger hangar complement, the Metus-class was not designed with speed in mind, rending it otherwise incapable of running down vessels. Likewise, it can easily be outpaced by other vessels, even larger Capital Ships which were specifically designed with speed and maneuverability in mind.
  • Dorsal Flight Deck - The Metus-class faces a similar design flaw aspect that it shares with the older Venator-class; in that the lengthy process of opening and closing of the reinforced armored doors often leaves the vessel vulnerable during that time. This can be utilized by enemy forces to either directly attack the interior of the hangar areas, or otherwise potentially land troops on the vessel.
  • Battle Carrier - Its primary designation and design capabilities as a Carrier supersede its role as a Battle Carrier; though equipped with heavy defenses and a sizeable armament of offensive weaponry, the vessel is otherwise not designed to withstand a toe-to-toe engagement with Battlecruisers, Star Destroyers, or other such heavily armed vessels fulfilling an offensive role.
  • Automation - Much like many of the other vessels within the Confederacy, the Metus-class maintains a highly automated system that was intended to relieve additional burdens and tedious tasks from the crew; or otherwise operate the vessel with a smaller crew. These systems, in the event, that they are otherwise damaged or destroyed by Ion-based weaponry or similar damage sustained, would place an additional burden on the crew, greatly reducing the vessel's overall operational capacity.
  • Carrier Group - Designed with a primary focus centered around the operation and designation as a Carrier; the Metus-class relies heavily on additional vessels to create and support a Carrier Group utilized to screen enemy vessels and further protect the vessel.
  • Command Bridge - The location of the command bridge, which is situated towards the aft on the port side of the vessel, leaves it highly vulnerable to enemy attack. As a means to attempt to mitigate this, many of the defensive capabilities for the vessel are located near this superstructure - however - it is still highly vulnerable in its positioning, much like the command bridges of the older Venator-class vessels; with the loss of the command bridge having potential catastrophic results for the survival of the vessel.
  • Docking Claws - Though utilized to dock with other vessels and stations, or to rapidly deploy Starfighters from the vessel; these docking claws are just as vulnerable in their configuration along the exterior of the vessel. If damaged, these claws would prevent access to the exterior-mounted Starfighters or Support Craft; even potentially rendering the vessel incapable of docking with Capital Ships or Stations until the damage was repaired.

DESCRIPTION
A running joke whispered among the members of the Confederacy of Independent Systems includes that the CIS was founded as a means to pay off the Vicelord's large child support payments - a humorous jab that was carried into the design of the vessel named after the famed Vicelord, the Metus-class Battle Carrier. The vessel is both equal parts Battlecruiser and Dedicated Carrier, capable of unleashing a swarm of Starfighter Squadrons as well as a small contingent of Support Craft Squadrons; often utilized to deploy the prefabricated garrisons and ground forces that the vessel is capable of carrying between worlds. The Metus-class was designed around a similar feature as the older Venator-class, with a singular dorsal flight deck that is often obscured by two large armored plated doors. Additional hangar bay entrances along the port and starboard of the vessel provide an additional means to rapidly deploy or otherwise receive Starfighters in the heat of battle; and a series of docking claws also line the vessel, allowing it an additional means to rapidly deploy Starfighters or dock with other Capital Ships or Stations as needed due to the vessel being too large to properly land on a planet.

Though intended to act in a role as a Carrier, its designation as a Battle Carrier has ensured that it carries a sizeable array of armaments and defensive capabilities in the event that it finds itself in direct conflict with another vessel. However, it was not designed to remain in a toe-to-toe engagement with an enemy vessel; as such, the Metus-class is often at the center of a carefully deployed encircling carrier group with various layers of defenses to ensure the vessel's overall safety. The carrier group itself is deployed and designed to provide a means to screen out enemy vessels and prevent Starfighter or Bomber strikes from reaching the Metus-class; as well as delaying or discouraging strikes from smaller more nimble vessels such as Frigates and Corvettes. As a means to ensure the greatest visibility possible of a conflict zone and visual confirmation of the dorsal flight deck, the command bridge of the vessel was placed off-center towards the aft of the port-side similar to the locations of megastructures on planetary carriers. This location, though as mentioned providing a clear view of the conflict zone, also places it in a highly vulnerable location - making it a tantalizing target for those that are capable of making their way through the concentric layers of defenses around the vessel.

Further complications of the design come from its lack of maneuverability and a noted decrease in speed; both of which further force its dependency upon other faster-moving vessels to provide cover or ensure that it has ample time to escape or maneuver in a conflict when required. Like many of the more recent vessels constructed for the Confederacy of Independent Systems, the Metus-class is highly automated, with primary, secondary, and tertiary systems left in the capable controls of various automated features or droid brains to ease the burden or completely remove the need for a crewmember to oversee a specific system. However, these automated systems remain vulnerable to Ion-based weaponry, with sustained strikes more than enough to cause damage or potential destruction of an automated feature, which would in turn place an additional burden on the crew to keep the vessel fully operational.

The Metus-class Battle Carrier often works best in larger fleet formations, providing a contrasting capability to the Srina-class or Locke-class; while also serving in a role of a Systems Command due to its capability to carry a sizeable planetary detachment and garrisons. The vessel was designed around the central focus of providing a Dedicated Carrier that could also survive fleet engagements - though not necessarily standing toe-to-toe against another Battlecruiser or Star Destroyer. It serves as an additional means to project the power of the Confederacy of Independent Systems, designed to support and overcome the weaknesses of allied vessels and vice versa; marking a new era in the composition of fleet detachments deployed by the Confederacy.
