It was the Givin species that had produced the first Wavecrest-class, often utilizing the vessel to create artificial labyrinths of asteroids, using their own natural talents in mathematics and astrogation calculations to carefully navigate these artificial mazes. In the following years other vessel designs under the Wavecrest-class have risen and each have had their own uses and designs focused around specific mission profiles. Following in the wake of these previous designs, the Wavecrest-class was developed with a specific mission profile in mind, center more around its classification as a Patrol Frigate than as a main-line Capital ship.
With a primary focus on maintaining the peace and order of hyperspace lanes, and planetary systems, the Wavecrest-class was designed to fall into the role of a Patrol Frigate, and as such its impressive array of weaponry also follows suit with this thought process in mind. Equipped predominately with Heavy Ion Cannons and Ion-based weaponry, its only non-ion weapon system is the handful of General Purpose Launchers - often utilized in the deployment of Launch Pods or specialized Boarding Torpedoes. Though it maintains an Extreme armament of weaponry; the Wavecrest-class itself is often utilized more in the capacity of a support vessel due to its Ion-based weapons, with the vessel focused more on disabling and deploying boarding parties rather than overwhelming and destroying a target with a concentrated salvo of withering Turbolaser fire.
As a means to ensure that the vessels would not become a target for pirates - in the event that the Wavecrest-class was captured - the vessel maintains a relatively low speed and maneuverability. Rather, due to this lack of speed and maneuverability, it focuses more on ambush tactics when patrolling planetary systems or securing hyperspace routes. And in the event that an enemy vessel flees, rather than running the vessel down, the Wavecrest-class will utilize its Long-Range Ion Cannons in a bid to disable the vessel. However, due to the Wavecrest-class being designed to only carry Support Craft Squadrons, the vessel can easily become swarmed by Starfighter Squadrons; often forcing it to rely on a carrier element or Starfighter Squadrons from nearby Stations or Planets for additional support.
One of its more somewhat unique features, is the Ebonite-Oviribdum coating that covers the Wavecrest-class, that coating, coupled with the design of the vessel which incorporates smooth, sweeping angles, makes the vessel more difficult to detect on scanners or sensors. Likewise, the coating along makes the vessel difficult to spot with the naked eye when against the backdrop of space. However, it should be heavily noted, that the vessel itself is not a Stealth Ship, nor does it contain any form of Stealth Technology - like a Cloaking Device. Rather, it is merely more difficult, not impossible, to detect with scanners, sensors, or visual confirmation.
While previous iterations of the Wavecrest-class remain in service, or have their own specialized roles that they follow, this iteration of the Wavecrest-class follows in a similar path. Its focus is on support, providing a withering salvo of Ion-based weaponry to disable enemy vessels with the intention of deploying boarding craft to take and secure those disabled vessels from the inside. In fleet formations, they are best placed at the periphery; better at focusing on picking off stragglers for capture rather than being in the center of massive fleet engagements. |
