- Purrgill Blood Laced With:
- Classification: Syringe deployed biological weapon.
- Size: Large
- 25.4 Centimeters Long
- Weight: Heavy
- Explosive Type: Biological Discharge
- Delivery Method: Melee/Launch from a weapon or slingshot.
- Effective Range: Personal
- Area Of Effect: Pinpoint. However range is increased to “Average” if the Chernil'borg Strain is injected, and radiation continues to act as a conduit within the body. It can irradiate the immediate area.
- Damage Output: Extreme
- Freezer Mechanism: To ensure the integrity of the payload, it is frozen by default, meaning the composition cannot be diluted.
- Superheater: Once the syringe detects it has entered the epidermis, the superheater kicks in, heating up the blood near instantaneously to ensure infection.
- Sensor Node: The sensor node governs all the relations of the syringe. Telling other components when to kick into gear, whether to employ counter measures and other issues.
- Purgill Blood: The fuel for the payload. Taken from the lobotomised purgill subjects of Prefsbelt IV, purgill blood is the optimised breeding vat for the various strains of midichlorian targeting microbes Prefsbelt Command tests. The vats used for the PR-24 however, have deliberately been infected with rust, dirt and other unhygienic circumstances, to ensure introduction to a targets bloodstream is as debilitating as possible.
- The Ravenous Strain: The Ravenous Strain was the first real success of Project RUUSAN. It mutated to rather than coexist, eat the midichlorians it would nominally subsist on. When introduced to a new body, they eat every midichlorian they can, until the new creature has run out. Often causing death, or debilitating damage to force users.
- The Chernil’borg Strain: The second and more insidious strain. Unlike the Ravenous, it peacefully coexists with other strains. The issue is, is that breeding of the species secretes radiation. That on its own is not particularly harmful. What is however harmful is that when one considers there can be thousands breeding at once, it turns the victims own bloodstream into a radioactive conduit. Which typically ends in a grisly demise.
- The Needle: The most important part of insertion, the needle. The actual needle is five inches long, (12.7cm), allowing for penetration through most armours. Due to its porous nature, it is able to open up smaller holes if the end is bent, or damaged, allowing for alternative forms of depositing. When digging inside the flesh, the needle dispenses automatically, serrated hooks, to keep it nestled in the flesh. This is typically enough to keep a victim from being able to remove the PR-24 until it has completed its mission.
- Durability: The PR-24 is a highly durable implement, due to the reinforced components and hull, meaning it takes some jostling.
- Penetration: The actual needle of the PR-24 is 5 inches long, allowing for the deep penetration of armour or thick hides to ensure both organs and bloodstreams
- Smart Needle: Sensors of the PR-24 have been primed to be able to only deposit its payload when it detects a piercing of the epidermis. Also, it’s been programmed to open small, porous holes in the needle, meaning even if the tip is blunted by initial impact, through the five inch needle, its toxic payload will be deposited.
- Don’t Stop Me Now!: Once penetrating the skin, prongs will spring up from the needle, causing the PR-24 to hook into ones flesh, attempts to pull it out will cause deep tissue damage.
- Droids: Containing no EMP based effects, and relying on penetration into the targets bloodstream, means droids are immune. Although they may be lightly, physically damaged.
- Long Time To Load: Given the awkward size of the implement, to load it within most weapons takes some time.
- No Immediate KO: Especially with force users. The Project RUUSAN microbes require some time to migrate and colonise the new body. Although there are enough to kickstart production and breeding, there are not enough to topple a force user. Although the Chern’ilborg strain, due to the fact it acts
- Area of Effect: When loaded with the Chern’ilborg strain, while it does cause radiation sickness and other ailments, the radiation does not disipate. Corpses with the Chern’ilborg strain became radiation conduits, and it may ail friendlies on top of enemies.
With the development of the new Chern’ilborg strain of the Badishah’curazi, Prefsbelt Command sought new ways to develop its biological weapons program. While the Ravenous MK1 grenades were an effective tool, they could often fail to appropriately infect the target, and if infection was successful, the dosage was too small. Ergo, the Project RUUSAN Model 24 Battlefield Syringe.
Modelled off of the ordinance used by Dathomiri poachers to hunt the mighty Rancor, engineers of Prefsbelt Command took the sedative syringes deployed and studied them. Finding a durable model, a good needle, with deep penetration. But also a weapon in need of upgrades. Ergo, the installations of a freezing component for safe long term storage, a superheated charge, and a sensor node.
The way the PR-24 works is simple. Once the needle pierces skin, the sensor node detects this, it begins to deposit the microbes within. For storage and to ensure potency, microbes are harvested from vast vats of purrgill blood, filled into syringes and then frozen. The superheater detonates, the blood melts near instantaneously and flows through the needle. As the syringe digs deeper, it begins to deploy hooks, allowing for the needle to stick inside and allow for the full load to be dispatched. Should the needle be blunted on impact is immaterial to the PR-24, as smaller holes within the needle can be used dispense it.
Now, as for the payload itself, it is typically one of two subspecies of Badishah’curazi, the Ravenous, who merely eat midichlorians until none remain, and the Chernil’borg, who merely colonise midichlorians but irradiate the body until radiation sickness subsumes all. In use of any of these, the dosage is enough to momentarily hinder. In the case of the Ravenous, to certifiably shake the ability of a force user if targeted and in the case of the Chernil’borg, the dosage of radiation given is 5000 sieverts. Both of which have their effects compounded, with the Ravenous strain eating all the midichlorians till none remain, and in the Chernil’borg, irradiating the body beyond repair. Both compound themselves rapidly, leading to impressive deaths.
Then there are the effects of the actual blood used. Both microbes are bred within vast vats of purgill blood, deliberately diluted with sediment, rust, dirt, animal excrement and other microbes as to ensure a not entirely sanitary proposition. So coupled with the microbe eating away or irradiating the body, is the immediate unhygienic nature of the fluid injected, which may or may not cause the body to revolt, trying to combat these measures.
The way the PR-24 is optimally used is with some form of high powered slugthrower, modified to house its rounds, and to be dispatched at high velocity. Alternatively, the syringe can be dispatched personally as an ad hoc melee weapon.
