Protection Against the Protectorate

"Slag, that's all that's left is slag!" Atretes muttered to himself in frustration as he kicked the helmet of his destroyed Anilarr-class Armour across the expanse of the Hand of Fate's training room hangar and brushed the remnants of the Tarentatek hide bodysuit off the table he'd set up there. In the battle of Vergesso, his signature set had become badly damaged, and due to its nature he couldn't easily repair it. Everything was made to itself, then retrofitted into a new set. While he 'made' it, it still wasn't very user-friendly. He sighed and ran his fingers through his hair as he stared at the Obsidian Cure armour he'd been using since then. It was nice, but not his style, and he needed something before the next encounter with Omega Protectorate. He didn't want to use the same gear as everyone else. Then he'd have the same weaknesses as everyone else. He pushed up from the table and headed for his desk in his little pseudo-workshop, which now had a terminal that tied in with Sudoka's databases, and sat behind his workbench. He looked around him at all the little tinkers he'd made, and brushes some of the moving ones aside and out of his way.

He tapped his fingers on his workbench and grabbed a notebook and something to write and draw with, and got to work quickly. He doodled out a design, took notes along the way, his brow furrowing in concentration and his violet eyes alight with the rate his mind was working at this. Finally, with sketches and thoughts and ideas done, he made an inventory of what he would need to create the armour.

XA-002-PT "Unnamed" Armour
Material Needs List
  • Tarentatek Hide
  • Phrikite Ore
  • Armourweave
  • Heat-Resistant Material
  • Electrical-Resistant Material
  • Glasteel
  • Various electrical components
Other features to be decided upon acquisition of materials.

There. He skimmed over the short list again, sent it to the Sudoka database to be archived along with his rough sketch, and folded up the piece of paper and tucked it into his pocket. He then popped open his A21U and pulled up a map of CIS space. Nobody expected a Tarentatek on Nar Chunna, perhaps there would be one on another world as well, where nobody would suspect. He saw one, just outside CIS space. A dangerous location due to its proximity to the Protectorate, but nonetheless had potential. It turned out next to nothing was known about this planet "Masterra", and that could prove to be more helpful than anyone could think. He would need help, though. Tarentatek hunting wasn't exactly easy. He could probably do it himself, but a party would make things run faster and more smoothly. As it was, he was looking at hiring some CIS soldiers to aid in his endeavour, but that could have disastrous consequences upon their numbers. He shifted over to the kind of universal channel all Confederacy members had access to, and shot out a mass message.

To anyone interested,

I'm going Tarentatek hunting. I need the hide as a material for a project I'm working on, and decided it would be nice to ask if anyone wants to tag along. I'd prefer some of the younger, or at least least less experienced of you, to come rather than the more powerful. You could get some learning experience. If you're interested, meet me on Masterra.

Thanks,
A. Rhoujen

He tapped send and then stood. He threw on his long coat and strapped on his weapons, then tucked his pocket secretary into his inner coat pocket and stretched out to get the kink out of his back after sitting for hours. He walked then to his ship and climbed in. He sat in the pilot's seat, tapped a few buttons to get going, and set off for Masterra. Hopefully he would find what he needed there.

Well, if you volunteer to come along, [member="Lancer Damar "], you must have a taste for it.

Atretes gave a bit of a grin as he sent that out. He would appreciate help from the man he never met, but whether or not it would come was another matter entirely. The young man shrugged and straightened up. According to the predictions, he would be reverting to realspace very soon, and he didn't want to be jostled around by the deceleration. In a few moments, the vortex of hyperspace diminished and the world before him came into view. The ship swooped down into the atmosphere and skimmed the surface. It was rather rocky and mountainous in this area, and finding a good spot to land was difficult. He made it, though, and touched down in a small valley surrounded by a light wood. It was a typical life-supporting mountainous region, and hopefully what he sought would be here. He decided he'd linger until dusk, to see if any others would join him.

The hunt would be difficult, but worth it. As an added precaution, he had rigged a small button on his wrist that tied in with his A21U, which then transmitted a signal to a small security force he enlisted to work with Sudoka -- a small ship and a handful of soldiers -- as a kind of bail out plan. Should he get too beaten up, they'd at least provide a distraction. They were his last resort, though. He hadn't hooked up a proper contract with Haor-Chall yet, and they controlled the many freighters, cargo plants, et cetera that he needed to do anything large-scale.
