SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Psychic Delirium Lances produce their effects by agitating 'psychic convergence coils' to project a directional wave of telepathic energy that is related to but not directly dependent on active Force use, much like the natural telepathic abilities of certain species. As a result, it is difficult to predict to what extent beings shielded from the Force will be affected - beings resistant to telepathy specifically are mostly unaffected.
    • Psychic Delirium Lances are not reloaded - instead, the 'psychic convergence coils' must 'spool up' after being depleted. The recharging process is faster if the coils are only partially depleted; going from completely empty to completely full can take a whole five minutes.
  • Psychic Delirium Lances can produce 'tight' targetted waves or 'broad' directional waves; the former has a stronger and more reliable effect, but the latter can hit more people and is harder to dodge. The effect can be changed by the user; the most common are listed below.
    • Stun. Aims to knock out the target(s) just like a stun blaster, but has the advantage of ignoring mundane armour.
    • Terror. Fills the target(s) with primal fear - anything even vaguely threatening will seem utterly terrifying to the affected.
    • Insanity. Instils homicidal rage in the target(s), driving them to end the lives of those around them - usually with primal violence.
    • Confusion. Cripples the target(s)' cognition with pervasive confusion; their senses are scrambled and their behaviour unpredictable.
    • Obedience. Eliminates the target(s)' critical thinking, making them find just about anything believable due to imposed naivety.
STRENGTHS & WEAKNESSES
  • 'Irresistible' Compulsion: Psychic Delirium Lances directly affect the central nervous system in order to drastically alter the behaviour of individuals (or, with lessened individual effects, crowds) or knock them out. Due to the nature of the energy, the wave is not visible to most eyes (Force Sight and certain cybernetic eyes can see it) and cannot be blocked by normal armour (but can be blocked by dense obstacles).
  • Resistible Compulsion: Specially trained individuals, the strong-willed, and telepathy-resistant species may be partly or wholly unaffected.
  • Fleshy Bits Required: Psychic Delirium Lances do exactly nothing to droids unless said droids use organic bits for computation. Even in such niche cases, the effects are likely to be unpredictable. Force Dead fleshy bits are equally unpredictable - shooting them is a crapshoot.
DESCRIPTION
A truly bizarre weapon from some of Apex's least stable researchers, Psychic Delirium Lances replicate the effects of mind-affecting Force Abilities without directly utilising the Force. This is apparently done by 'agitating the psychic convergence coils' - these coils are made from synthetic crystal of some kind. The exact nature of this crystal is unclear, but what is known is that it tends to explode violently if put inside a lightsaber.

Granted, it would take a special kind of crazy to dismantle unknown tech, cut a component into the right shape, and put it in your lightsaber.

Due to the boundary-pushing nature of the technologies involved, the effects can be somewhat unpredictable. The Force Dead are a wild card, for one, and hitting a squirrel or other 'small, cute critter' with anything but the Stun mode is liable to make its tiny brain explode.

Beings with decentralised nervous systems - like the Gen'Dai - are affected, 'but everything but Stun seems to result in Confusion'.
