Public Discourse vs Communal Disruption

SWRP is a very liberal, open community. However, please learn the difference between providing conflicting opinions and respectful debate as opposed to disrupting the positive atmosphere of this community.

Staff supports the first, but will act against the second. Due to a recent attempt at public disruption, a member has warranted a suspension. Staff is on high alert for further disruptions.

This applies to a very small group of disruptive members here on the forum.

I'm all for conflicting opinions and respectful debates, makes for good conversational threads if everyone maintains a decency of understanding that opinions are that of the individual, and there is no right or wrong opinion. But disrupting the positive atmosphere is distasteful and childish.

I've seen some writers trying to rebel against the Admins and for what purpose? To be noticed? To feel like they are making a difference? To be the centre of attention? Again...childish.

Rebellions usually end bad for those people. I would know, I'm Irish and look where that's gotten us.However, :), nobody does Rebellion quite as well as the Irish. :)

Nothing else really needs to be said.

In extreme circumstances, Skype logs can work against you.

We've had members judged to be malicious in attempt, sexually harrassing other SWRP members on Skype, and even one extreme case where a member threatened another's life.

Obviously the burden falls on us to judge the context of the situation, but my message is that just because it's not on the board doesn't mean we won't use it as evidence.

That's....Disturbing. The Internet sure does drag out the crazies.

...that your afraid Tef might see your Skype records because of inappropriate things you've said? Given the context of the thread that's the only meaning I can get.

Personally I find the best way not to get caught is to not do things that others would deem "bad."

I am not afraid of Tef whatsoever, if he wants he can have ALL my records and see how much we discuss matters that have nothing to do with starwars at all.. Might actually make me laugh when he tries to use mass effect and other genres against me.

This might be redundant and perhaps a tad insulting, but do please always remember the difference between being an tit / inflammatory / purposefully disruptive in a debate and someone simply trying to appeal to higher powers / emotions / what have you to close a debate and pretend they won. Be wary of crying wolf, is what I'm basically saying.

Other than that, keep doing what you're doing.

Well I think most of us here can respectfully disagree. I disagree with some admin decisions but in the end nothing worth getting nasty over we'll just disagree and the rulings stand. Overall I think it's not hard to be civil if we try.

There was an online game I once played called Sherwood Dungeon. The week or so before I quit, the game suddenly became infested with drug dealers, terrorists, and hackers who shut the game down on a regular basis. Game turned into the absolute bottom of society, and I'm glad I got the hell out of there when I did.

And sadly, I'm quite serious.
