Described derisively as "a glass cannon good for blowing holes in capital ships, but its ass is wide open", the Pulsar-class Battle Cruiser is purpose-designed to lay waste to bigger ships, although it must rely on the rest of the fleet, especially fighter screens, to defend its vulnerable aft section. Essentially, the Pulsar is a hybrid between the Nova-class Cruiser and the Beta-class cruiser with an emphasis on ballistic firepower and heavy ion cannon abuse, for the which the Hapans have long been known for in the case of the latter. In practice, the ship performs well when arrayed near the front of a fleet formation with a defensive line of fighters and escort ships not far behind. When used to supplement the high-firing rate and ballistic ordinance of the Battle Dragon, Pulsars are expected to make facing a full Hapan battle fleet in open combat a dangerous prospect.

- Employs triple-link heavy ion cannons similar to the Battle Dragon.
- Armed with torpedo tubes which can be armed with their proton torpedoes or Ion torpedoes at the cost of turbolaser batteries and point defense lasers
- Redundant deflector shielding helps it stay in the fight, based on the Nova-class cruiser retrofits, though they aren't quite as uniform.
- Hangar capacity is reduced to two defense squadrons allow for necessary ballistic ordinance.

- Heavy-hitting assault cruiser which excels in ion cannon fire and torpedo ordinance deployment against a single target.
- All of its torpedo tubes are positioned at the fore-end of the ship with a dedicated targeting computer for a single target, making it less effective against multiple targets
- The ship is more vulnerable when being attacked from the rear due to a greatly reduced firing arc positioned at the aft end, thinner shielding in that area (most of the shielding is angled forward by default), and its sluggish turn-rate.
