THE IDIOT'S ARRAY
ADARLON ORBIT

"Welcome to the Array!"

Captain Kyros flipped a lever and the transport's internal lighting flickered before going back out. He coughed uncomfortably and flipped the lever a few more times. After a few seconds the light systems slowly came back online. The main passenger bay was filled with crates and covered in a fine layer of dust. He coughed again but beamed with pride at both Finley Finley and Jaya Tandris Jaya Tandris .

"What did I tell you?" the duros gestured to his ship like it was an Imperial palace, "Cei Kyros travels in style."

He hadn't asked Finn about a position as first mate yet but he figured the kid could use a place to crash instead. Jaya he'd found at the docks on Cloud City. Seemed confident that she knew her way around an engine so he offered to give her a chance. After a year marooned out by Cosm's Well the duros was relieved his ship hadn't been stolen or impounded. He had enough credits now to fuel her up and charge the reactor but what he didn't have was a crew. Not even he could pilot a ship this big on his own.

"Engine room's that way and one deck down," Cei pointed towards the aft corridor, "Bridge is up this way. Everyone gets a cabin so long as you work for it. Whenever you want off let me know and I'll drop you off anywhere in the Territories."

"It could definitely be a lot worse." Jaya tilted her head slightly as she shrugged. "You probably should've hired someone to clean off all the dust, though," she added with a chuckle.

The Idiot's Array would most certainly do, as long its inner workings weren't a complete mess.

On second thought, she would have been open to the challenge.

Life had been exceedingly boring for the woman. The past year had been spent away from anything exciting, her previous work had set her up to live a fairly comfortable life without having to work another day. What she hadn't realized, however, was how quickly she would run out of ways to keep herself busy. One could take the scoundrel out of the environment, but you couldn't take the environment out of the scoundrel.

And so here Jaya was, back in the saddle. It wasn't about the credits anymore, but the work itself. Above everything, getting her hands dirty was something she thoroughly enjoyed. The Idiot's Array was looking to be her home away from home for a while, and she was looking forward to it.

"Let's find out what we'll be workin' with then," Jaya replied as she followed Cei's directions to the engine room. While she did, she raised her voice to compensate for the distance that she was creating between her and Cei. "How long was this ship marooned for, again?"

Finley

Finn walked with the two as they entered into the seek hold of the ship. As Cei Kyros flipped the lights on Finn couldn’t help but to let out a slightly amused and nervous chuckle as he scratched the back of his head. “Yeah - particular style is a word I would say could be used.” Finn looked over to Jaya Tandris Jaya Tandris , he didn’t know anything of the girl, but Cei had a feeling about her and his feelings always seemed to be right. Hell, if it weren’t for Cei, he never would had made it this far, met the people he’d met, and had the adventures he’d had. Lost in thought, and before he could make a proper introduction, Jaya had left down the hall going to the engine compartment.

Finn peered over to Cei has he swung a medium sized bagged over his shoulders and gave a Cei a light slap on the shoulder.
“I’m going to put my stuff away real quick, and then I’ll report to the bridge.” He moved away from Cei and came to his personal quarters as he threw his bag onto the cot. They weren’t much, and they weren’t big, but they were his, that’s all he cared about. A bed to call his own, and a crew that was becoming like family. He had more than he ever had prior, and it was thanks to his captain.

THE BRIDGE

"How long was this ship marooned for, again?"

"Different ship," the duros explained, "To be honest she's been rusting up here in orbit for a couple years now. Took me a little while to scrape together the talons for a few replacement parts we need. Guess its a lucky thing, huh? That's why I call her the Array."

He let Jaya Tandris Jaya Tandris make herself at home in the cargo transport's internals. The few parts he mentioned were a bare minimum to get her reactor online and drives running again. Once they fueled up there was going to be very little left over for additional maintenance. Cei's new mechanic would just have to make do for a couple of jobs.

“I’m going to put my stuff away real quick, and then I’ll report to the bridge.”

"Sure thing, kid."

Kyros wasted little time. While the others were settling in he flipped a few switched and grinned at the sight of his old captain's seat bathed in familiar electronic glow. Outside the viewport Adarlon was buzzing with activity. Most holomedia in the outer rim was produced between here and Praesitlyn and the casinos were legendary. Good thing he was owed a few favors or he'd never have been able to afford the parking.

"Time to start thinking about next moves," he waved hello when Finley Finley finally joined him, "You're up front with me. Have much flying experience? It takes a little getting used to bulk runners but they're not so different from light freighters. There's room for Jaya in the back here if she ever gets tired of staring at that Calrissian hyperdrive."

Jaya was happy enough to see that the ship had the necessary parts to fly in the first place. Whatever issue that would crop up afterwards could be fixed one way or another, but ships didn't fly on just hopes and dreams. The woman was confident she could keep the Array in the air, though. There were few things she couldn't fix.

With a nod Jaya stepped away from the reactor and made her way out of the ship's inner bowels, grabbing the bag she had left at the door as she walked past it. Her next stop was the place where she would be sleeping and after somewhat carelessly tossing her bag through the door, a sudden realization hit her. Her holodevice was pulled out and a quick message was sent to her flatmate and best friend, Zoey.

hey, i joined a ships crew so im going to be out of town for a bit. ill probably drop by to pick up my gauntlets at some point just in case i need them. thought id let you know so you dont think i died or smth.

After the message was sent, Jaya decided to make her way to the bridge. It's where she assumed the other two would be so she could properly introduce herself to the other kid and see what their first job was going to look like.
