OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
- Intent: To craft a filtration device blueprint to be used in any and all circumstances where fresh and clean water is at a premium, as part of Sylva Auxilius' 'speciesitarian' projects.
- Image Source: Me, I made it!
- Canon Link: N/A
- Permissions: N/A
- Primary Source: Based on the concept of the LifeStraw (Wikipedia), but Sylva-Vitae'ed.
- Manufacturer: Sylva Vitae through Sylva Auxilius
- Affiliation: Sylva Auxilius
- Market Status: Open-Market
- Model: "PureSucculent" Filtration Straw
- Modularity: No
- Production: Mass-Produced
- Material: Easy-to-source plants & fungi found across the galaxy; water-activated micro-tubule filter is easy to craft with standard manufacturing techniques
- Able to be handheld but still useful while connected to a hose or water bottle, the utility of this device is nigh unlimited.
- Filtration system cleans water of 99.999% of all germs and pathogens, 99.999% of chemicals and heavy metals, and about 80% of salts, making any source of water extremely pure to drink through this straw
- Uses a combination of reverse osmosis, turgor pressure, hollow fiber filtration, and carbon-based filtration.
- Each straw filter can last for 1000 liters (about 3 liters a day for a year) before it needs to be discarded
- Each straw is collapsible for ease of storage and transport
- The straw itself is fully biodegradable, and the filter can be disposed of to prevent spread of possible contaminants.
- Powerful and fully organic filtration system is extremely potent and simple to use in emergencies
- Filters are disposable, and the straw itself is fully biodegradable
- Simple and cheap construction is easy to manufacture at scale
- Creation and crafting of this straw requires preparation beforehand, so this is not an instantaneous solution at the place it's needed, but a preemptive solution to be stored on-hand for a time.
- Fully organic design is not as efficient or as durable as contemporary technology
As with all Sylva Auxilius biotech, the "PureSucculent" straw is designed to be cheap and easy to manufacture, sourced from widespread plants and fungi found around the galaxy, to create a source of filtration available to everyone as needed. Part of SVSX's 'speciesitarian' ethos, this is purpose-built for simple and effective usage in crises or emergencies. Simple creation processes and patent-free manufacturing allows this to be crafted and stored with economic ease; a lengthy shelf life allows this to be stored for a while before expiring.
A simple twist-and-pull pops the straw open. The outer shell (green) is slightly soft and flexible, allowing one to bite down a bit to draw water from its source and providing a form of cushioning for the straw in case it is dropped. The inner shell (reddish brown) is more durable, acting as a rigid support to hold the straw components together. The filter component (tan with green pores) is able to be replaced as needed, and is also used as a structural component to hold everything together.
