GENERAL INFORMATION
  • Unit Name: Pyke Outlanders
  • Affiliation: Pyke Syndicate, Druxas Rabastan
  • Classification: Infantry
  • Description: The Outlander Legions are the Pyke Syndicate’s primary force of soldiers for frontline combat. Clad in jet black armor and armed with the latest technology spice-earned credits can buy, they make for intimidating foes. This is especially true for the armies of primitive worlds the Outlanders are often deployed to subjugate. As a matter of policy, they are exclusively formed from Pyke recruits. They are a well-organized force, with standardized unit sizes and compositions. The largest grouping is the Legion, consisting of 5000 Outlanders. The Outlander Legions as a whole fall under the command of Grand General Druxas Rabastan. He is secretly planning to use the Outlanders in a coup against his uncle, Grand Wsjirari Jej Ulchtar. To this end, many officers in the Outlander Legions loyal to the Grand Wsjirari have been replaced by Rabastan’s cronies.
COMBAT INFORMATION:
Strengths:
  • Terror-Troops: As members of the naturally tall Pyke species clad in imposing black armor, Outlanders are naturally fearsome foes. This psychological effect is particularly effective against armies from primitive worlds who know next to nothing about extraterrestrial life.
  • Adaptable: Outlanders are trained to use unconventional tactics, and improvise against more numerous forces. Many have found creative uses for bounding boots in particular.
  • Well-Organized: The organization system of the Outlander Legions provides a clear chain of command and easily coordinated units.
Weaknesses:
  • Potentially Incompetent Leadership: In preparation for his coup, Grand General Rabastan has replaced some experienced officers loyal to the Grand Wsjirari with younger officers exclusively loyal to him. This has dampened the efficacy of some of the Outlander Legions.
  • Overconfident: Having mostly fought against outclassed single-planet armies in recent years, some in the Outlanders have acquired a rather inflated opinion of their own abilities.
HISTORICAL INFORMATION
The Pyke Outlander Legions were founded during the Crymo-Pyke War to provide a force for invading planets controlled by the Crymorah Syndicate. Their name originated from the common galactic phrase used to describe anyone not from a specific planet, the idea being that the Pyke Outlanders could operate effectively on any world. Thanks in part to their successful campaigns on planets like Christophsis and Argus, the war ended in a Pyke victory. Since then, the Outlanders have been a mainstay in the Pyke Syndicate’s forces.

The Outlander Legions later saw action against Crimson Dawn during a conflict known as the Vermillion War. During this time, Druxas Rabastan first began serving as an officer within the Outlanders, and quickly rose through the ranks thanks to his ruthless efficiency. By the end of the conflict, he had won several victories, and held the rank of General.

Since then, the Outlanders have mostly been used in the conquest of independent planets with technology levels centuries behind Galactic Standard. This has led to a growing sense of complacency, not helped by Grand General Rabastan’s policy of valuing personal loyalty over military competence. Time will only tell if the Outlanders will prove capable of fulfilling their duties in the next major war they get involved with.
