Name: Qorih'kralt

Designation: Non-sentient

Homeworld: Selvaris

Language: None

Average height of adults: 2 Meters

Skin color: Brown

Hair color: White, occurs sparsely on head, shoulders, and chest

Breathes: Type I and II

Strengths:
[+] Fast and Agile: Despite it's large size, the Qorih'kalt is capable of evading an extensive amount obstacles or other such things that might cause harm. This stems from their natural prey, insects, that have veritable flight and require equal capability.
[+] Hypersonic soundwaves: Given their attenuation for sound, the Qorih'kralt is capable of scanning for objects as far away as 500m.
[+] Anti-Laser Aerosol: pulling the properties from the firebreather and nuhlrokka, the Shapers have placed the aerosol into the coat of the Qorih'kralt, improving it's ability to evade damage.
[+] Cognitively linked: Either to Yammosk, Cognition Hood array/Throne, or Villip system, these beasts subconciously communicate through mental link to a coordinating body.
[+] Force Dead

Weaknesses:
[-] Not combat prone: The Qorih'kralt is often one to avoid any form of combat, preferring evasion except in the cases of altruism and sacrifice of self.
[-] Not very smart: Requires training and grafting in order to be of any use to the Yuuzhan Vong, despite being originally shaped in the first place.
[-] No hands!: This species have modified hands, allowing for flight as a bat. However, because of this, they have very little utility when it comes to basic skills, holding things, or using weapons.
[-] Mouth Injury: The Qorih'kralt relies on it's own projection of voice to function. Damage to either the mouth or the ear will essentially kill the Qorih'kralt.

Distinctions:

-Flight Speed: 150 km/hr
-Range of hearing: 500 meters
-Specific range of hearing: Exceptionally Wide, from 10 kHz to 2 gHz.
-Non Combative: These beings are non combative, with very little martial prowess. Their strength and agility is reserved for the flight, opting rarely to fight.
-Wing span: varies between each creature, can exceed 5 meters from tip to tip.
-Light: Creature is light and extremely agile, despite it's size: a characteristic learned from it's practice of foraging.
-Appendages: Well, technically it has hands, but the fingers are modified to serve as connections between the membranous wings. The thumb is the only truly usable finger, poking vertically upwards and perpendicular to a downward displayed wing set.
-Sweat-glands: Emit anti-laser aerosol while in flight.

Average Lifespan: 80 years

Races: None

Estimated Population: Common, exceeding 50,000 and climbing.

Diet: Bugs and fruit.

Communication: Echolocation and tone based barks/grunts/biting.

Culture: Being non-sentient, this species displays very little in terms of actual culture. In the strictest sense, naturally they are just modified variants of the Xandu, culture centered around reproduction and feeding - the fitness of the species. However, they also show a similarity to other bat species in the display of active altruism - they sacrifice of their own accord to improve the survival of those around them, extending to other species. The prime example of this would be the sharing of food, without any hint of reward in the future.

Technology level: Low, grafted with modifications through bio-engineering. However, they do not actively use technology.

General behavior: The Qorih'kralt lives a normal life of sleeping and rummaging and foraging. While naturally nocturnal, the species has been modified to have a more veritable sleep pattern that's essentially capable of being modified by the Intendant who is training the local population. They roost beneath bark on large trees, or beneath plates of mica or yorik coral. When not sleeping, they are either breeding or foraging for the breeding season. Of course, when used for war, they are trained for the sole purpose of scouting.

History: This beast began it's life in simple form. Xandu, a form of bat that shares humanoid features, was shaped into something that was capable of adding purpose to it's somber and meager existence. First and foremost, the Shapers modified the creature through physical changes that gave it a more monstrous yet natural appeal. For all it's purposes, it's reversion simplified it's appearance to something more akin to a natural furry bat. Of course, the size was maintained to a relatively constant humanoid size.

At first, the Shapers praised their own work for it's ingenuity and shift in the appearance of the beast. However, it was quickly realized that the monster served no purpose except to feed and forage. It even avoided combat, much to the dismay of the Warrior Caste, who dubbed it the Qorih'kralt for it's natural leanings towards cowardice. The name stuck but the Shapers took it as a challenge, moving forward to enhance this beast for dutiful servitude to the Yun'O.

First, they enhanced the cry of the bat, to produce a variable call that shifts based on the surrounding sound. In this case, it was seen as a survival adaptation so that even in the most sound blasted of atmospheres, the species could still effectively maneuver and survive. With the amplification of the call, the Shapers also enhanced the hearing capability of the bat through modification of the tympanic membrane. Through this, the Qorih'kralt is capable of disseminating differences in materials based on returned vibrations, similar to a sonar. I.e. metals, rocks, wood, organics - all return different pictures to the Qorih'kralt, allowing it to specifically hone in on prey or avoid more difficult obstacles. This call can be cast over the distance of roughly 500 meters per screech, in a roughly 60 degree spread from the mouth of the Qorih'kralt. The heightened functioning of the bat allows for instantaneous computing of the signal, translating perceived sound into a vivid almost topographic view of the surrounding area. Over the outer ear, a membranous and nearly sound proof film opens and shuts with the exertion of the call, timed with the speed of sound and expectation of return - a morphological adaptation that due to the increased sensitivity of the inner ear, it needed to be protected when not in use.

Shapers and Intendant Caste worked together to further focus the creature, allowing for it to be trained to serve the Yammosk or other communication means, dependent on the pace of battles. First, they created a mental link through modified cognition hood, though more closely resembling a spinal biot that provided mental link to the Yammosk. Once that occurred, it merely took training by the Intendant Caste to force them into service - wide area scanning for nearly instant imagery of a battlefield and the components therein. Even in the case of sound dampening, the information provided is of use as it casts a blur or shadow, highlighting locations of enemies for the sound that is dampened. This imagery is portrayed through Yammosk mental link to blaze bugs and villip choir, projecting living and constantly altering mapping for the war effort. Of course, this could be easily modified to fit with more advanced forms of imagery in the future and could be stored, via qahsa or ingrain memory of cognition hood - a natural recollection to improve foraging in the future.

Finally, Shapers tacked on a single defensive capacity. From the firebreather and nuhlrokka, the Shapers spliced the anti-laser aerosol into the sweat glands of the Qorih'kralt, allowing it to temporarily evade laser fire while in flight - fine tuned and serving as secondary option to typical evasive tactics.

Notable Player-Characters: None

Intent: To create a long range acoustic device variant for the Yuuzhan Vong, coordinated with other sensory systems. Similar to a sonic mapper, but increased in versatility, range, defense, and detail.

So while I like this, I do have an issue with the speed and the range of hearing.

The range of hearing I feel is a bit much given what it's based off of, and needs to be dropped to a lower number given how much ground it can cover. Or alternatively I'd be fine with the range if it's flight speed was dropped down a bit. It's going to have to be one or the other.

Did you mean based off the Xandu or based on being a variation of the sonic mapper? LRAD, Long Range Acoustic Devices, have a capacity to project sound up to 3000 meters, which I think would be more than enough to satisfy the concept of this creature projecting a sound and hearing it over roughly a distance of 1000 total meters (projection and return) - I.e. it's about the energy put into the blast and the sensitivity of the ear. For instance, a dog can hear noises over a quarter mile away or more, when a sound of similar energetic cost is only perceptible by humans around 100 feet (that's a difference of 400 meters to 30 meters). However, I can understand your point.

How about I kick off the speed to 150 km/hr? Would that be sufficient change?
