Question about character creation.

So, I was on this website which had a video of this new animated star wars series(Can't remember what it is called, I think rebels or resistance?) But after watching the video, I read the description of the video and what not and discovered the character featured in the video's name. So, I did some research on wookieepedia and discovered the title of their species and home world. However, I am not sure if I am permitted to create a character under this species. Also, if anyone was wondering, the species is titled "Lasat". Thanks for reading.
