Question/ really interesting idea.

So over the weekend at work i got this idea and i have never seen something like it. I know how a lightsaber works and such. I also know the most common thing concerning them is the fact they are so varied by color hilt design and such. So the idea would be using the force or maybe a bit of jedi artisan work to make a design on the blade for instance if you had a black blade and an affinity for spiders the secondary crystal/work would cause a red web pattern to appear on the blade. I know it does sound silly but i wanted a feedback on if i was going to attempt to discover this how it would have to be done like in a dev thread. I am all for working for what i want.

Differences in blades, patterns/etc generally imply imperfections in the focusing crystal. The most common 'lightning' effect stems from unstable saber crystals, which had the chance of blowing up in your hand. A spider web projection would be pretty tricky - and be a lot of crystal imperfections.

So... doable? Probably not without killing yourself, or using an illusion effect and making it 'permanent'.

The reason for a variation in color is because of the color of the crystal (though artificial crystals could have their colors altered through extensive meditation) and the stability of the blade is depending on how well the crystal is assembled within the focusing chamber. Applying a pattern or such would require a different piece of equipment than a lightsaber, like a comprehensive light-whip, and while it would be possible, I don't think it would be within anyone's best interest to deal with making such a device that has little practicality behind it.

Sort of like engraving a blade in real life?

An alternative idea to make that effect might be to include a miniature holo-projector synchronized to project such an image on the lightsaber blade when the blade is activated.

This would be practical and efficient, though for what purpose I'm not sure.
