- Lightsaber's Worst Nightmare: Spitting dozens of high velocity slugs in every direction at a rapid pace in close quarters, now even a Jedi, or Sith may find that an intimidating task to overcome in the heat of a confrontation.
- Large Magazine: Able to hold an above average number of rounds, especially for a slugthrowing shotgun, the R14 Kaitai can make sure that its operator litters a room full of lead before needing to take cover, and reload. By that point, your opponent may be dead already.
- Rate of Fire: Having the ability to go fully automatic, a choice that is rare to find in shotguns, the R14 Kaitai can rapidly deposit barrage after barrage of slugs, or if one prefers the traditional approach, or must conserve ammunition, it can remain at a steady, semi-automatic pace, like a regular shotgun.
- Digital Integration: Sharing the same HUD compatability with many other NDD weapons, the R14 Kaitai can connect to an operator's helmet interface, allowing them aiming assistance, viewfinders, status updates on the condition of the weapon, and an ammunition counter.
- Recoil: Although with a single shot maintaining a regular amount of recoil due to the weight of the gun, when being fired in rapid succession, such as in its fully automatic mode, the recoil can become a bit of a problem for an untrained operator, or one who is not yet accustomed with the gun. NDD strongly recommends practicing before utilizing it in a combat scenario.
- Build: Heavy, and large, the R14 Kaitai, although king of close quarters engagements in every other regard, hardly makes for a comfortable, or convenient carry through a claustrophobic, or even regular environment for that matter.
Developed out of NDD's requirement for a weapon which fit into the role of an effective, more heavy-duty close quarters weapon, the R14 Kaitai came about initially as a regular semi-automatic slugthrower. Intended to fire large, heavy slugs that would do terrible damage to a target's insides, the now popular automatic aspect of it was added to differentiate the weapon from its potential competitors on the market, and some internal reports suggest that Saro Nakaioma himself had some input into the design, possibly intrigued by its applications against lightsabers. Popular among the underworld as a weapon of intimidation, and a status symbol, it has also seen use as a breaching weapon, and one utilized by special police teams for urban combat on more dangerous worlds. It has apparently seen use against Jedi peacekeepers at times, to undetermined results. But its value as a close quarters, and urban combat weapon have most definitely been proven over the relatively short course of its production lifecycle.
