R4-Z3 is an old droid manufactured during the days of the Galactic Republic. Originally designed as an agromech droid sold in the Outer Rim territories, at some point during its long life, R4-Z3's astrogation buffer was removed and replaced with an R7 series astrobuffer, making it capable of holding fifteen different destinations in its memory. After a long life of bouncing from owner to owner, it ended up being purchased by a young Klein Derrevar, who would go on to own R4-Z3 for the rest of his life.
Upon his passing, R4-Z3 was inherited by Klein's nephew: Gatz Derrevar. He now serves aboard The Red Night, assisting Gatz in flight and repairs.
