Old astromechs left to rust and expire. Even with Neith's repairs and replacement of useless parts, they still have a certain 'older than your grandparents' aspect to them. Perhaps it is the noise from all the tools inside of them. They are probably the source of the 'ghost noises' heard in the ship in the middle of the night.
